No "complete" dates for GW and UCLA, because they never sent me complete notices. I had given up checking the online status checkers for U.Va. and Northwestern when the decisions arrived.

GWU

I think GWU ran out of money for PMS after the first few, or my letter had a typo. When I first posted, I thought that all the PMSes were the same. Now I feel a little weird. They'd take away my scholarship if the see the "impressive achievement" I just made of a DiGornio pizza in the toaster oven. Did you go to the admitted students reception at Arent Fox last week? I dropped half an egg roll on Dean Trangsrud at the reception. Anyway you're going to have to make the tough decsion between GWU money and top-10 prestige. Mad props for not giving Gtown the time of day :-) Drop me an IM if you want to swap stories. I'm in DC too.

Nah, I'm sure your PMS $ wasn't a typo -- there's someone else on here who got offered $15K back in January, so there must be *some* rhyme or reason to their offers. I didn't apply to Gtown because everyone I know who came out of Gtown Law basically said, "Ehh, it was okay." I'm not prepared to invest $150,000 and 3 years of my life for an "Ehh, it was okay." Sorry, no IM. But drop me a line if you're planning to go to the PMS reception -- particularly if you're planning on dropping any more oily food on high-ranking administrators. I want to watch.

Hmm, i wrote a post but it's not here. You can see my email if you do Edit Account -> Edit Posts. I'm looking forward to attending the PMS night and the preview days, yeah. I wrote some funny stuff about an orangutan too but I forgot it.

griping

hey, what are you griping about gwu for? you want to trade your NW prize for it? If I were a dean, I wouldn't give me a scholarship over you.

Griping? Who's griping? I don't see anybody griping. Do you see anybody griping? Maybe the gripers all disappeared to the same place as the comedic orangutans. Besides, the NW $ is a combination of need- and merit-based aid. Maybe the admissions people decided to take pity on my earnest but pathetic attempt at a savings account.

'griping'
Sunday, July 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

well, you posted "grr" on my account. Maybe I was presumptuous in presuming the 'ipe" :-) Seriously, if I misread you and mischaracterized you, I apologize. NWU did need aid already? That's cool fast. I assume that savings account against need award. i.e., if we got it, they want it. i was thinking about blowing all my savings on creme brule before filing the FAFSA.

No, don't apologize. There was definitely some "ipe"-ing involved on my part. =) The NW and U.Va. financial aid applications were both due Feb. 15, so I was presumptuous and sent my info in before I'd been admitted. (Hey, it worked in both cases -- maybe I should have sent my financial info to the rest of my schools too.) But yes, I agree -- NW is being cool fast about getting back to people. I've been told by a source -- how reliable a source, I don't know, but he got into Stanford Law so he can't be a complete idiot -- that the only thing law schools can't touch is IRAs. Hmm, what a dilemma -- creme brule now or real money later?

GWU $ on the way
Sunday, July 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

GWU will probably boost your PMS prize with a need-based award too, just like NWU did. I wouldn't be surprised if the PMS staff choose PMS numbers with the financial aid estimates in mind. My 4 yrs 'professional' WE plus employed parents (== no need-based aid) might have created an illusory advantage in the PMS award phase.

Congrats on all the acceptances! You are secretly me with the insight of getting a good GPA before trying to go to law school, haha! E-mail me or IM me some time! Best of luck to you!

Thanks, Dina! Columbia was originally my # 2 choice (after HLS) way back when I was deciding where to apply. Now that I've had time to think about it, however, I'm not really sure I want to move to NYC. I went to NW's admit dinner in D.C., and someone there described Chicago as a cleaner, cheaper version of NYC. I think she had a point. In short, NW's still very much in the running (especially if CLS doesn't give me any $ -- and I'm not sure how much they have left at this point). I'm going to NW's admit weekend this Saturday, so hopefully I'll be able to make a more informed decision after that.

so..

did you decide on Columbia? I think on the whole NW debate, I'm leaning towards NYU... but I called NW and they gave me an extra 5 days to decide (until 4/20/05). How was the admit weekend?
