I basically applied to 3 schools (reach, likely, and safety) in a bunch of major cities. My husband is finishing grad school and applying for jobs simultaneously.

I'm hoping my high GPA will help compensate for my low LSAT.

Additional info & updates

2/15 Waitlisted at UMd. I guess I really need to put together another LOR.

2/13 Waitlisted at Loyola Chicago, I'm loosing some optimism.

2/7 Acceptance to St. John's in a large envelop and Hofstra sent me a nice T-shirt. Sorry Hofstra but the T-shirt doesn't do anything for me. But I will agree to wear it to bed at night.

2/4 A small enveloped arrived from George WA... wait listed. I'm excited that I wasn't flat out rejected. I'm thinking of applying to a few more schools for kicks. Beef up some of my cities. Any opinions?

1/18 I was ecstatic to hear from George Mason first. One, because it's one of my top picks. Two, because I got the news by phone. Yeah! By birthday was a few days later. What I great gift, how did they know?

***Campus Visits***

UNLV: 1-18-08
Nice facilities but not much stands out. A local lawyer commented that UNLV is not well represented in the area. While demand for lawyers in Vegas is high, the school only graduates about 100 each year. Hmmm.

Pepperdine:1-17-08
Absolutely amazing view which I guess helps with mental health in law school, but the interior of the building is dark and outdated. In class the professor did not impress me. He was clearly a better lecturer than discussion leader. The students were not particularly articulate and the discussion moved much slower than I expected.

Loyola: 1-17-08
I like Loyola's competitive but cooperative feel. The separate campus is attractive because I think I'd like it better not mixing with undergrads. The multiple building set up is cool. I'm very interested in their Education Advocacy Project so that's a plus.

Seattle University: 11-9-07
I was surprised how similar my classroom experience at Seattle was to UW. They used more of a Socratic method but the students were prepared, thoughtful, and engaged by the professors. The facilities were good but not much around the actual school besides campus. Still a little too far to walk to downtown stuff. The girl who did my tour was basically a spokesperson for the admissions office. No real opinions. I asked her if she could change anything what would she change. He response was free coffee...not impressive.

University of WA: 11-8-07
I love UW. They set me up with a student ambassador that held nothing back because she had no obligation to do so. It always annoys me when they treat my tour as a PR op. She took me out to lunch with her 2L friends. I really felt like I fit intellectually and socially with these law students. I was curious how they pulled off a non-Socratic teaching method. But class was great and very engaging. I was equally impressed by the 1L and 2L classes. Campus is historic, which I like, the modern building requires a card to get into, so no mingling with undergrads(which I like).

UNLV

I actually moved to LV two years ago so I could attend law school here. There is so much opportunity here- in every field. My husband easily found good work in his field so that made the decision even easier. The school is young which is why (I think) they aren't ranked higher. I think in a few years it will rival top CA schools (luckily we won't have to deal with tuition hike that will go with that). I am finishing my BA here as well and find the faculty to be very supportive. The job prospects in the area are great. NV has one of the hardest bars in the country and UNLV grads are continually improving passage rate and already well exceed the state average. All in all, I have done very well here. It is a strange city at first but if you get past that then you can have a great time and, like I mentioned before, the opportunities here are unmatched anywhere. If you want to talk more let me know.

What's up with Baylor?

Were you shocked to be waitlisted at Baylor? We have about the same numbers, and I know I was...Congrats on GM, though! That's awesome! Good luck with the rest!
