Additional info & updates

- Nov. 27, 2019: Late update, but I'm in my studio in Chicago and could not be more grateful to be here. Good luck to you all. If I can do it, you can, too!
- April 21st, 2019: So it's looking like UChicago unless I somehow get off of Stanford's wait-list. Thought Chicago's my first choice, Stanford would be extraordinarily difficult to pass up, especially if they were to make a competitive scholarship offer. Let's see!
- April 17th, 2019: Negotiated UChicago up to $48,000. Since their tuition + cost of living is less than NYU's, and since UChicago was such a dream for me, it can only be topped by Stanford at this point. We'll see.
- Feb. 1st, 2019: Submitted FAFSA and UChicago Law's financial aid request form.
- Dec. 21st, 2018: I did not receive UChicago's Legal Scholars Program Scholarship, so I will be reconsidered in January with the rest of those in the Regular Decision pool.
- Dec. 13th, 2018: Always interview with schools that offer the opportunity! I had trouble with Cornell's online interview platform and never followed up -- so I got a rejection from a school all predictors said I'd get into. Learn from me!
- Dec. 7th, 2018: Interviewed with Columbia Law on Skype.
- Nov. 20th, 2018: Interviewed with UChicago Law on Skype.
- Nov. 12th, 2018: Interviewed with Georgetown Law over the phone.
- Oct. 3rd, 2018: Interviewed with Northwestern Law in person.

Curious 1) If you were Mexican-American 2) If you think the "Why" essays unsolicited can backfire where not required

Thank you so much for taking time to make your profile so detailed!! Our stats are really similar and I'm also a URM, so it makes me really happy to see more in-depth information rather then just the raw numbers. I hope your cycle goes well!!

1. I am not Mexican-American! My parents hail from Venezuela. 2. I'm not sure. I've heard impassioned arguments either way. UPenn and Duke (R and WL) strongly encouraged it and I obliged. Harvard wasn't in the cards, numerically, for me anyway, so it's hard to say. Cornell was a strange case because I had the numbers -- I just didn't take the time to complete the online interview, which I think was an indication of my being on the fence for them. And I landed on the wrong side by holding out for too long and giving up.

You're so welcome! I wanted to be more helpful than some of last cycle's LSN members that had similar numbers to mine -- but provided little else for context. My dream school was UChicago Law and I got in. At this point, I'm holding out for Columbia (I have a good feeling, but we will see...), too, but aside from losing UPenn, Cornell, and Duke (which I thought I had in the bag... more of a pride thing than anything...), I am having a fantastic cycle thus far. Thank you!

Pretty clear they don't consider Hispanics URM as a group. Swarth of those who got into HLS/Stanford/Yale, the lone rejection always seems to be UPenn. Between Amy Wax's comment about Law Review and that, makes you wonder if there's colluded thinking.

That would make a ton of sense, especially since my numbers weren't outlandishly low for UPenn -- and I got waitlisted at Stanford + accepted at UChicago and NYU.

Thanks for the most recent update!

I'm curious if Venezuelans are considered URMs? I've heard for Latinos only only Puerto Ricans and Mexicans are included. I am so proud of you, and I hope you accomplish amazing things with a degree from UChicago. Thank you so much for updating us!
