Additional info & updates

Penn: all notifications by email

Fordham: Notified by email for acceptance; never emailed to say it was complete/received though

NYU: snail mail (large tan envelope); email for completion; have depoisted at NYU!

BU: postcard to say it's complet; phonecall congratulating on acceptance followed by accept packet and separate letter with $10,000 scholarship

Georgetown: online status check turns to complete, then decision (though it doesn't tell you which one); got on priority waitlist; they emailed me asking me (yet again) to cofirm my interest, and i wrote a very lovely email to them, and the very next day I was miraculously accepted (can we say yield protecting?)

GW: never said it was complete; sent me an email notifying me of an admitted students day, followed by packet; separate letter with $15,000 scholarship and merit scholar program invite

Columbia: snail mail envelope with hold designation (seems like a nice way to say waitlist, rather than what most schools consider a hold). I will likely be withdrawing because I'm in at NYU. I have been at Columbia for the past 4 years as an undergrad, and though I love it, 7 years is a loooong time to live in Morningside Heights. Also, many students I know here are pretty unhappy.

Stanford: Waitlisted, but will be withdrawing. I knew if I got into a good east coast school stanford would be out.

LSAT?

Congrats on your acceptances so far. Do you think the adcomms are averaging your LSATs or taking the higher one? Did you write an addendum giving them a reason why they should look at the second one as more representative of your ability? I'm just curious. Good luck with the rest of the cycle!

thanks!

I think the LSAT issue depends on the school. According to this site, Penn takes the higher one. NYU, however, averages (which I've also read elsewhere). CGeorgetown and I think Columbia should take (or at least give most weight to) the higher one. Harvard's a toss-up ("discretionary", you know), and I think everyone else averages. I did write an addendum, though. I think it's important, because you at least have to try to get them to consider the higher score--give them the reason to, you know? Did you write one?

congrats on the fast positive turnaround! top numbers do that for ye, eh? I hope there's an NYU envelope waiting for me when I return from vacation on Sunday...

I was actually really surprised--with the first LSAT and late app date, I didn't at all think I'd be a quick accept at these top schools. I guess it just goes to show that it's definitely not impossible to overcome these setbacks (even ones held to be so important!).

Gtown

Really, WTF? I would have put you as a sure in for Gtown. Just goes to show that this is in part a crap shoot. Unless, did you use racial slurs in your personal statement? I hear they don't like that.

Two words for Georgetown: Yeild Protecting. They're betting you have a long list of better options (which you indeed do) Congrats!
