Additional info & updates

June 30, 2009: It's been a while since my last update, but I have made my final decision. It came down to BU, Fordham, Emory (all at sticker) or UGA (in-state tuition my scholarship puts it at $5,500 a year.)

I have chosen UGA and am quite happy. I love Athens, am comfortable with the school and the people and will be saving a literal truckload of money. Plus it didn't hurt that they gave in to my pestering and upped my award amount.

In some crazy way I've actually enjoyed the law school testing application process and am a little sad to see it go. I'm definitely excited about starting in a couple months, though, and hope to see some of you there.

2-09-09: First full rejection -- UCLA. Came in an ominous, yet obvious small envelope.

2-3-09: I received a voicemail from BU informing me of my acceptance about a week ago and found out yesterday via status checker I was in at Fordham full time. It's gonna' be a tough decision between UGA/BU/Fordham and even worse if I get in somewhere better.

1-12-09: Received my Chicago-Kent acceptance letter and scholarship information today. Offered two scholarship options

A: Full first-year tuition $20,000 renewable rewards for second and third year contingent on 3.25 GPA (30% of the class, the letter said).

B: $18,000/year guaranteed scholarship. I like the first one, as it would produce roughly $75,000 in award money if conditions are satisfied.

Christmas break: Received an acceptance from American in the mail over Christmas break. No scholarship information.

12-19-08: Just got a call from Alabama admissions telling me I had been accepted and offered $25k a year, renewable each year. I just realized that's a bit more than a full-ride tuition wise. I really didn't expect that much.

12-12-08: I'm pretty sure all my applications are now complete. I haven't heard back from any one except UGA, but all my status checkers are showing completion. I added rough choice #s in a tier structure.

12-10-08: UGA admissions just called and offered me $5000/year scholarship. Being instate, this is almost half my tuition and is just gonna' make my law school decision even harder. Otherwise, I haven't heard back from other schools other than application completion e-mails.

12-05-08: Accepted at UGA via status checker. It was the strangest thing. I JUST turned in my second letter of recommendation to LSAC last night around 5:00, it was sent to UGA and my application went complete this morning, and it changed to accepted shortly after. UGA's on top of their application process it seems.

I'm extremely happy about this. UGA's definitely one of my top choices, as I'm a Georgia resident and its tuition is like $10k/year for me. Plus it's a great school, I hear. Good start to my admissions cycle.

12-01-08: Submitted my fee waver apps and added Virginia/UCLA. I know I have a ton of applications, but it was necessary for my cycle strategy. I hope to get accepted to my targets and get lucky on one of the 10-20 ranked schools. I feel I have good softs and a good PS, so I'm feeling optimistic.

11-22-2008: Submitted my paid apps. Will probably use fee wavers in the next week.

11-20-2008: I'm planning on playing the numbers. Hourumd gives me a ~25% chance at most schools ranked from 8-15. I am going to apply to nearly all of these and hope I get lucky with one.

Very ambitious with the reach schools. Kudos to you man- I don't have the courage to dip into the T14 myself beyond Georgetown. P.S. you're very fortunate to live in a state with a highly ranked public school... the rest of us gotta deal with out-of-state tuition!!

Yes, In-State in itself is great. But, I gotta find money for room and board now!!

Congratulations, they're an awesome school- I'm waiting eagerly to hear from them as well. However, NYC is unbelievably expensive for law school: any thoughts on how we could scrape together $180,000?

thanks!

Aww you're sweet! I'm in a weird spot right now...having not heard from the higher ranked schools and having the full ride at Stetson. Torn between not having to pay for law school and paying a LOAD to go to a high ranking school (pending acceptance). We're all just waiting this out to see where we get in before making decisions!

Congrats on Emory! When were you accepted?
