Extra Curricular Information

I earned a masters degree (MSW) from the University of Washington School of Social Work, and have been working for two years on AIDS research.

Submitted addendum on undiagnosed ADHD not recognized until my senior year of UG, after returning from a medical leave. My first 3 years, I had a 2.7 GPA. My final year, after getting help with my ADHD, I earned a 3.7. Anyway, those are the breaks.

I have a bunch of great soft factors: grew up overseas (Kenya, South Africa, France) because my parents are both international journalists. I have been working for health and international development organizations since graduating from UG in 2003, and completed my MSW in 2007.

I am mostly applying to schools that have JD/MPH programs because I want to stay in the health and healthcare field, working on health law and public health policy.

Heres to a good cycle!

Additional info & updates

Here are updates about decisions as they occur.

01/10 Emory acceptance! I walked in the door this morning to find some large envelopes piled in the mail box. The first was an "invitation" (really?) from Barack Obama to celebrate the inauguration where ever I happen to be that day. The other was a big yellow envelop from Emory. Whoohoo!

1/16 I got an acceptance from Hastings in a normal-size envelop this evening right as I came home from work. I am thrilled!

1/28 Acceptance from Santa Clara in a small envelope.

2/3 Came back from being out of town for the weekend to find that the honeymoon is over, along with my winning streak. Dinged at G-town, where I really loved their unique focus on public health law, and also out at Minnesota. Tough breaks. I did get waitlisted at UCLA, where they have a great joint program with the school of public health, but ambiguous and potentially endless uncertainty doesn't do much to soften the blow.

2/4 Email acceptance from Brooklyn. Back on the horse.

2/6 Small envelope waitlist from GW.

2/11 Dinged at Berkeley. I found out via status checker online. That's sad news, because they were the reach I wanted the most. My significant other is in a PhD program there, so I was trying to match up our academic future. Oh well.

2/20 Waitlist letter from BU.

2/25 Waitlist email from Michigan.

3/14 Found out I was waitlisted at Fordham and have gone to decision at UW via status checker.

3/19 In at UW! I loved the U and Seattle when I was there for my MSW. I would be thrilled to go back.

3/23 In at Davis via large envelope and admission packet.

4/6 Dinged at NYU via small envelope. Surprisingly, they claimed in the letter that in making their decision, they were not estimating my potential as a law student or as an attorney. Well then what the hell were you doing for five months. Is that not the express task of an admissions committee?

4/16 Got my final decision from Columbia today- rejected, not that it is too big a surprise. At least their letter was well written and not rife with misrepresentations.

hey, congrats on UC Hastings. Must be nice to have a good, solid option to remain in the Bay area. I'm actually from that area as well, so it's on my short-list

Hastings..

Yea I am pretty seriously considering IP law, so Hastings seems like an ideal choice!
