2/13-My cycle pretty much comes to a close as UT-Austin finally rejected me. Made some updates as scholarhips have rolled in, and also am in at Baylor. W&L still are yet to make a decision, but judging off of last years cycle, if I haven't found out by now, it's likely a rejection and a waitlist. Even if I get in, I'm not paying full sticker to go there. I will just now be waiting to see if I get any money from SMU. If not I will withdraw from every school but Houston. Now comes the decision of whether I go to CRNA school or law school. I'm leaning toward CRNA school but I have a while to think about it so who knows. Glad I ended up getting into UH since it's the school I thought I would be going to when I started this whole mess.
2/5-Finally some activity after weeks of nothing. Last week on Friday got a nice message from Stephanie at SMU informing that I got into their program. Nice to have my first top 50 acceptance and it a great place that I know and love. That said, unless I get a pretty decent scholarship, I don't know if I can stomach their high costs, which are still almost 40k/yr for part-time. Also notified via status checker that I am in at the University of Houston. This is my number 2 choice after UT because they are tops in health law and in-state tuition makes it very affordable. Really excited about this. I guess the only thing left for me to do wait and see what UT has to say. I also withdrew from Case Western this week because I didn't do their phone interview and had no desire to attend now that I am in at both SMU and UH.
1/8-Not a whole lot of activity during the Xmas break. Got a call from Drexel today letting me know I got in with a 20k a year scholarship promised over all 3 years just as long a remain in good academic standing. Not too bad since that would make their tuition only 12k a year total. Case Western also called asking me to interview. I doubt I will call them back since they aren't a top choice and I think I will let fate decide. Also got into Temple the week before Xmas and still awaiting their admissions packet. Still looking forward to UH and SMU.
12/18-Got dinged today at Illinois. Not too upset about this one as I wouldn't have gone at full sticker price anyway. I was just more in aww of Dean Pless' excellent admissions process and the free application. It hurts a little to have my first real rejection, but it comes from a program that doesn't have the best health law of the schools I've gotten into, or a part time program.
12/15-Got a scholarship letter from Indy-Indiana giving me $10,000 a year, renewable all four years if I maintain at least a 3.3 scholarship. Honestly pretty dissapointing considering that doesn't even cover half the tuition for their PT program and I am above the 75% medians for part time. What's worse is the 3.3 GPA requirement. After seeing this I'm pretty sure I won't be heading there despite their excellent health law program.
12/12-Pretty uneventful week. Decision has been made at Loyola Chicago but I haven't received any mail or e-mail as of yet. This seems to be the case for just about everyone here on LSN. I'm also in review at Illinois so I should get a decision next Friday according to Dean Pless on TLS. I also spoke with a Drexel admissions assistant and they said they were having an admissions meeting next week, and decisions should go out shortly thereafter. Was also told I would be receiving my Indianapolis and Dayton scholarship info soon. So despite a relatively calm week, the next week and the week leading up to Christmas may be pretty everntful. Thank god I work full time or the suspense would be killing me. I can't imagine going through this during UG sitting at home during X-mas break.
12/8-Even though I withdrew my Georgetown app well before they sent out their rejection e-mails, they still took it upon themselves to send me a rejection notice. I called their admissions office to tell them how unprofessional thats is and they said that they are in disarray this application cycle with some new management and dealing with the Deans announcement that he will be leaving. Read the Georgetown TLS thread for better insight of the drama from the past week. It's incredible how unprofessional they have been. I was transferred directly to the assistant dean of admissions who apologized to me for the mishandling of the situation. Honestly, after seeing how they have dealt with their admissions, I'm glad I won't be attending. There's clearly a price you pay when going to a school with so many apps and students. Good luck to everyone else though.
12/5-Withdrew my application from Georgetown as I started to realize that even if I were accpeted, I couldn't stomach paying 40,000 a year over four years for PT. Even if it is Georgetown, with my background experience, I'm going to have no difficulty landing a qualified hospital administration job, which is what I plan on using my JD for. The JD is all that is needed as there is no prestige factor in the field of nursing. That said, finally in review at one of my top choices, University of Houston. YAY!!!
12/4- In at Indiana-Indy via e-mail. Status checker changed two days ago and I just got the e-mail today. Scholarship info to soon follow. Things are starting off nicely.
12/3- Just got my acceptance e-mail from Denver. Shortly thereafter I got a scholarship e-mail informing me that I get $16,500 each year, over all four years (I applied PT as I will continue to work) and need to maintain a 3.0, which is required of all scholarships. Nice.
12/2- Lots of movement on my status checkers this week. Decision rendered a Georgetown, Indiana-Indy, and U of Denver. Fully expecting a ding from Georgetown and hopefully two more acceptances from Indy and UD. Hope I find out by the end of the week. Funny how the schools I applied to last are the ones I'm getting decisions from first.
11/17-Got my accecptance packet in the mail today from U of San Diego. It just contained information about their concentrations, a seat deposit slip, when scholarships are going out (mid-Jan), and a short acceptance letter from the assistant dean of admissions. Pretty excitied about this one even though they don't have too many offerings in health law. I love San Diego, know the area well, and have numerous friends in the area that I could live with to keep costs down. If they throw me a decent scholarship, I could very well be living in beautiful San Diego. A wonderful thought.
11/16-Spoke with Tony S., Assistant Dean of Admissions at Dayton, and he informed me I am in at Dayton. He said scholarship information would be sent in December. He was actually interesting to talk to as he pointed out I am obviously an overqualified candidate compared to their normal students. He also wanted to know a little bit about me and was overall very nice. It was nice talking to an Adcom that was up front and somewhat straight talking. While Dayton isn't my first choice, it's nice to get the first acceptance out of the way, and like I told him, outside of getting into UT-Austin or Georgetown, my decision is going to be based pretty much on cost and location. I know some may scoff at this, but with my background and intentions for my J.D., I don't need to throw more money to a lower T1 or T2 school if an unranked school is willing to pay for my legal education.
11/12-Just decided to check all my status checkers. I usually do it about once a week. (I don't know how other people can be so obsessive about status checkers, it's unhealthy) Nothing too major except I found out I'm being held to regular decision at UT-Austin, which I'm actually happy about considering they seem to be dinging everyone this cycle with a sub 3.6 GPA. Not to mention my LSAT is way below their average. Maybe my softs and in-state status helped. I also went to "Decision Rendered" at USD. Hoping it's my first acceptance of the cycle, which looks good since they haven't dinged anyone yet. Fingers crossed.
10/28-Sent out applications to U of Denver, Indiana-Indianapolis, and San Diego after getting Fee Waivers. Also applied to University of Texas since it's the best school in my state and couldn't hurt to have another reach school since I only have two others thus far. Will likely end up applying to Seattle, Maryland, and Texas Tech since they too have given me fee waivers and all have good health law programs. Although, I kinda want to wait until I hear from Georgetown since there would be no point in spending more money if by some miracle I got in there.
10/15-Finally getting this whole process started. Applied to 12 schools to start and will go from there. Planning on working during school which is why all my apps are PT. Applied to GULC PT ED. I know it's a long shot but what the heck, it's my only really big reach along with Illinois. Houston is my most realistic/probable choice since it's tops in health law and I would get in-state tuition. CHEERS!
Hello. After you applied to Drexel did you get an email with information regarding their online status checker?
