Additional info & updates

I am a non-traditional student, out of college for 7 years.

So far I have received:
1) A fee waiver from St. Louis University
2) A letter and packet from University of Wisconsin Madison
3) Letters from LaVerne, Valparaiso, Northern Illinois University
4) Emails from Penn State, Appalachian, and a few others

10/1/2007- Okay, so this weekend I applied to St. Louis University and Pittsburg. Today I applied to Penn State Dickinson. I am waiting on one last letter of recommendation to be processed before applying to Catholic, American and George Mason. Since I applied to these schools last cycle (and with a lower LSAT score), I did not want to reuse both of my letters of recommendation.

10/1/2007- Pittsburg requested my report. Yay!

10/2/2007- Okay, so last night I decided to go ahead and apply to the 3 DC schools. 2 of them (George Mason and American) requested my reports today. As one of the letters that I designated for each of those schools has not yet been processed through LSAC, I am not certain whether this will hold up the initial report, or whether they will send a report, and then update it with the new letter.

10/11/2007- Catholic still has not requested my report. I did send in my application for their Law and Public Policy Program late last week, so all my materials are in there. I wonder when they are going to start requesting reports...

10/15/2007- Yay! Catholic requested my report...

10/26/2007- I have received "You are Complete" emails from SLU, Pitt and Catholic. I received an email from American on the 10th saying that they would let me know if my file is not complete, and since I have not heard anything else, I assume I am complete there. I just went complete at Catholic yesterday.

10/29/2007- I received an email from George Mason that said that I am complete, but not to expect to have a decision until January.

11/9/2007- I am now complete at all of the schools I applied to. I am really hoping for some decisions before Thanksgiving...Not sure how likely that is, though.

12/7/2007- Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Now I am just hoping for some decisions before Christmas. American's Early Decisions are supposed to be out by December 21st and Catholic's are supposed to be out by December 14th. Here's hoping!

12/10/2007- In at Pitt! Yay! The acceptance came in a regular sized envelope, and there was a handwritten note on the letter. What a great day! I am very very interested in Pitt, and feel blessed that it is now an option!

12/15/2007- Rejection from American arrived today.

12/18/2007- Waitlisted at Catholic. I am beginning to think that the DC schools just don't like me very much. I already live in DC, and have a great job, which made part-time seem like a good option. In the waitlist letter from Catholic it said that they sometimes wait until the very end of the cycle or even the beginning of the school year to pull people off the waitlist. That makes me really nervous!

1/22/2008- Waitlisted at George Mason...I thought for sure I would be rejected, so I am excited to be on the Waitlist!

1/29/2008- Waitlisted at SLU, which is a surprise. I think my cycle is pretty much over.

3/05/2008- I have still not heard anything from Penn State, and it has been over 5 months. If I do not hear soon, I think I will just count my losses and withdraw. I withdrew from CUA and St. Louis, but am staying on the waitlist for George Mason. After a visit to Pitt, I am 99.99% positive I will attend there.

3/25/2008- 1 week shy of 7 months after applying, I finally heard from Penn State...and I was rejected.

This cycle has been so wierd! I applied to 1 reach (George Mason), 2 reach-targets (American and Pitt), and 3 safety schools (Catholic, SLU, and Penn State). My predictions for this cycle were way off.

Here is what I would have predicted:

In at:
Catholic
Penn State
SLU
American (Early Decision, with a soft factor that should have nearly guaranteed an acceptance)

Waitlisted at:
Pitt

Rejected at:
George Mason

I am pleased as punch to be going to Pitt, and can't wait to start!

Well, here's what I'm thinking: 1. There are a lot of people that were EA who have awesome numbers much higher than me (like you) that also did not recieve e-mails. So, I don't think these e-mails are the end of the early action acceptances...i don't see how they're goi to rejct people like you when there are so many just in the snaptshot represented here on lsn. 2. they told me yesterday they were "mailing" more today. I dont' know if that means e-mail or not. But I don't see how they are mailing all rejetions. 3. Another consideration is that perhaps people being notified via snail mail have some mention of a scholarship, where as the people who recieved e-mails didn't have mention of scholarship?! 4. As for me, I'm not sure, but there are just too many people with better numbers that were EA and didn't hear yesterday for ALL of them to be getting waitlists/rejections. 5. this whole process is incredibly and annoyingly mysterious, and my guess is as good as yours. What do you think?

A second thought on number three above: Most people who recieved e-mails yesterday applied after me so maybe they were just decided upon a couple days ago...Maybe those were the accpetances that haven't made it through financial aid yet, and were therefore not given $ info. Maybe (wishful thinking) we have already been considered for $ and are therefore being notified via mail so our scholarship offers will be in non-electronic written format?!
