Early decision to NYU and Early action to Penn - sent out.

10/31: Submitted Penn and NYU through the LSAC website

11/01: E-mail from Penn that they've received my e-app

11/13: I Called NYU to check on the status of my application. A very friendly woman told me that my application is complete and all set for Early Decision.

11/14: I called Penn to check on the status of my application. Another very friendly woman told me that my application is complete, and that it's "before the committee as we speak." Not really sure what that means. I have a feeling it just means that it's one of the thousands that are complete and have gone to the next phase, i.e. the committee. Who knows?

11/20: E-mail from Penn that my application is complete and good to go for Early notification.

12/16: Small letter in the mail from NYU telling me that I've been deferred. Not surprising. Still disappointing. "That's better than being rejected..." has its limits.

12/21: Thin letter from Penn informing me that they have decided to "hold" my application for further review. I'm guessing this is simply Penn's way of saying I'm deferred. However, in contrast to NYU, they say I will have a decision by April 1, but that it could be much sooner.

Pretty bummed. Thought I had a shot at pulling one of these out. Looks like I've got some campaigning ahead. I am hereby rolling up my sleeves and digging in for the long haul.

2/22: Mailed Letters of Continued Interest to both NYU and Penn. A lot of stuff overlapped, but that's no surprise since I want to go to both for similar reasons, and I'd be THRILLED to go to either one. Also, updating on what I've been up to is the same for both. I did add a little family connection to Penn, though, and highlighted the undergrad connection to NYU. I hope this pushes me over the top.

4/4: In at Penn! Large envelope postmarked 3/31. Sooo excited!!!

4/11: NYU Rejection in a thin letter (letter dated 4/4 - not really sure what took so long - I live in Manhattan). Oh how the ding stings. But I'm very excited about Penn.

And so the cycle closes.

Good luck, everyone!

Well, I added two more LORs after they considered my file complete, and I have a Dec LSAT score (which is hopefully better than Sept) and fall grades to add to that. Can you get any sort of LOR from your employer hinting that you will be able to get a job there after graduation? Besides LSAT and GPA, schools also care about their grad employment stats, so maybe that could be helpful?

Really sorry about the deferral, they're crazy to pass up you with those stats/soft factors. Hopefully they'll realize their mistake and give you the nod in a couple months!

Congrats
