Extra Curricular Information

info on monies for future applicants:
(Duke)
Received scholarship approx. 1 month after acceptance. I just signed and returned the scholarship form included with the Priority track thing.

(Georgetown)
I called and asked if I could apply for Dean's Scholarship. Initially told no, but they emailed and asked me to submit essay on why Georgetown, DC, etc. Scholarship offer received via email approx. 1 week later.

(Minnesota)
Received unsolicited. Initial amount was increased by 3k/year sometime in January.

(Wash U)
Scholar of Law scholarship received unsolicited. Was notified of possible scholarship in acceptance letter/email. Offer came later (early March).

(Columbia)
Received grant after submitting other scholarship offers. Not sure if they helped or not, though.

(Virginia)
Spoke with admissions person during admit weekend; told of scholarship amt. the next day.

(Penn)
Initially received nothing. They were unimpressed with offers from UVA, Duke, Wash U, Georgetown, and UMN and offered a pity scholarship. Offers from Michigan and Columbia spurred them to action, at which time they matched the Michigan offer.

(Michigan)
Called to withdraw, citing lack of scholarship as main reason. Was offered scholarship later that day.

Lesson to be imparted: call, email, and otherwise hassle!

Additional info & updates

mid-late August: finally rejected from Harvard. So happy at Columbia!

(5/21/07)
Visiting the old alma mater yesterday I ran into an old friend who said, "Congratulations on Columbia. I didn't realize you were, you know, smart like that."

Thanks.

(5/9/07)
WHO is reading my profile? I am not that interesting!

(5/7/07)
Attending CLS and feeling amazing!

On the WL at HLS (booooo). I paid for a decision, darn it, and want that rejection letter to put in my decision folder. Yes, I have a decision folder and it is gloriously pink.

(March/April)
Visited all of the above schools save UMN. Liked CLS, Penn, and UVA the best.

(2/15/07)
Holy crap, got into Columbia! Received a large envelope with an Admitted Students Handbook and another large light green envelope that contained the acceptance letter, and some other info. From complete to decision in 4 days!

(2/13/07)
Received the large binder from Wash U.

(2/9/07)
called Columbia to make sure my Dean's Certification got there okay and found out I'm complete. Huzzah!

(2/8/07)
Deferred/held at Harvard via email.

(2/2/07)
Received the promised package from Penn. It has a DVD about the city, a book on1L life, info about restaurants, laundromats, bars, etc. in the city and near campus, stuff about joint degrees, financial aid, etc.

(1/26/07)
Got the envelope from Gtown today-dated 1/22. As everyone else has mentioned, the letter included a handwritten note from Andy Cornblatt. Awesome. Also received letter from Wash U saying that the scholarship committee is considering me for a Scholars of Law scholarship.

(1/22/07)
Accepted to the University of Virginia via a deceptively small envelope.

(1/18/07)
Applied to Columbia...discovered a hidden fee waiver when I submitted the application. Wahoo!

(1/17/07)
Received acceptance packet from Michigan. Included a DVD about the campus and faculty and letter from Dean Zearfoss with a personal note at the bottom.

(1/12/07)
Michigan status checker changed to decision.

(1/10/07)
Received email from Assistant Dean Mary Ann Clifford at WUSTL a few minutes ago. Says I'll be receiving the package within a week with scholarship information to follow in February.

(1/3/07)
Got the email from Michigan that many people are calling a deferral. I don't see it that way, though, since it's really just an application update.

(12/21/06)
Accepted to Penn via phone call from the Director of Financial Aid! Tony said that the letter would arrive within a few days and the big package with housing, financial aid, Philly info, etc. would arrive in 2-3 weeks.

(11/5/06)
Received package from Duke. The letter included specific references to my personal statement. Neat. (edit: scholarship information came separately, approximately one month after the decision.)

Congratulations on your acceptances. Are you leaning toward Columbia? How did you prep for the LSAT?

Well...

...I'm glad that you finally decided, and it looks like CLS is doing well in the cross-admit battle! I still do really like Penn, but (like you I think) realized that it was not ever Penn Law I liked, but the greater University of Pennsylvania, and also some connections I have there. Otherwise, the Columbia choice is a no-brainer, and I'm soo excited for August!

Congrats

Congrats for (hopefully) deciding where you want to go. Best of luck to you in NY, and the HLS waitlist, where you are a much better candidate than I.

Thanks for the advice! If I get into Columbia or Harvard, I might just die, lol. I can only hope that I can replicate the success of your cycle.

Thanks

Thanks for your input. I'm applying to ED to GW primarily for scholarship hopes, even though I doubt I'll get the big money there. I've been working on a Cornell app and am considering adding Michigan to the list. Congrats on making to Columbia!

Yeah, I am very excited about CLS. What kind of activities are at the ASW. Also, how can I get a tour of the housing facilities? Hope to meet you soon!
