Extra Curricular Information

Volunteering, public service. student clubs. little bit of everything, but nothing particularly exceptional. looking back, I don't think i presented my self all that well on the statement which is one of my regrets at this point.

Fluent in Russian, moved to the US 2 years ago to attend a law school. Lived for a year in China studying Chinese. Have a law degree from Russia (Bachelors degree, this is all I need to practice law back home).

If you are wondering about the randomness of applications and my grand scheme..

I've applied to a few schools where i knew i'd probably get in or have a good chance to get in (Miami, Newark, Loyola, Santa Clara, Northeastern). A few schools were my safety net and/or feewaivers.

The rest i regard as a lottery hoping to get crazy lucky with. My hopes are that my somewhat diverse background will have them give my file another shot. That's all i'm asking for :)

Additional info & updates

I submitted my applications rather late as it took me a long time to get me transcripts from russia and china.

Had part of my applications submitted in Decemeber, and the rest throughout January.

1/15 got an email from GW saying they can't take me through the early decision, but holding my application for the general cycle.

1/29 Got my first decision, from Miami via email. The pressure is off. I know that i'm going to law school at least somewhere :)

1/29 Got home and discovered a package from Southwestern. Interestingly, this was the first thing i've heard from them since the submission.

1/29 Checked email at night and got an email from Quinni. saying that i'm accepted and i should recieve the package soon. It arrived in two days along with a scholarship letter for 20 000 per year.

Overall, that was hands down the best day of the cycle :)

2/02 Western new england called and announced the scholarship over the phone. Have no intention of going there.

2/06 small envelope from NYU. didn't take them long to reject me :)

2/13 Pepperdine said i should have my decision in 6-8 weeks. via email

2/15 Newark emailed saying they are holding me for later in the cycle. The latest i'll hear from them will be mid April. A'ight i guess.

2/20 small envelope from GW. "Unfortunately blah blah blah" :)
2/20 small envelope from Golden Gate with acceptance. Have no intention of going there with Miami's acceptance.

2/26 went into "Decison letter in transit" on UF status check. Arrived the following monday. Small envelope.. Very disappointed, though it would be a miracle if i got in. On their web site it says that in previous years 80% of accepted students were in-state.

3/24 Small envelope from Pepperdine. It was a sloppy application on my part so not surprised.

3/29 Email from Santa Clara saying I'll hear from them by the end of April after a second review at which point i'll be either accepted or waitlisted. That's nice of them to send an update. Have seen quite a few people with the same stats as mine that recieved the same email.

4/06 Rejected at Hastings. Finally.

4/10 Waitlisted at Northeastern by regular mail. Will have a final decision by the end of June. My cycle is getting so long... Just want it to be over.

4/16 Duke said they will notify me soon. Went into "decision made" on the april 10th and still have't gotten anything. Expect a small envelope casue from what i see on this web site i'd get an email in case of acceptance or waitlisting.
It's my Bday today. Maybe it'll be a good omen and i'll get some good news today? :)

04/17 got three rejections at once. Loyola, Duke, Harvard. I'm having a bad cycle day..

4/17 USD waitlisted me. did not get the letter until 4/27. Sent the forms back along with a LOCI. Given the slim chances for Davis and recent rating changes USD would probably be my best option.
By the way, a hint. I think if your status at USD dissappeared on the status checker, you're probably waitlisted. That's what happed to me. Otherwise it'll go into "decision renderred".

4/24 Ding from UCLA. what took them so long :)

4/29 At this point waiting to hear only from SCU and Davis. Both were talking about the end of April. Unless Davis accepts on the spot (yeah right) I have a feeling that my cycle is going to continue well into the summer. Sucks.

Decided to remain on thw wait list for NUSL just for shits and giggles.
Started international student paperwork for Miami.

4/30 Waitlisted at Davis. Found out via status checker and very happy i can not believe it!! Thought they'd reject me. It certainly maid my day. The letter says they may admit students up until August 21st. Just hoping people will withdraw!

5/1 WL at Santa Clara. The status checker just changed to "Waitlist offer". Kinda dissappointed. Will propbably withdraw.

I guess i can relax for the next two months. Very unlikely that i will hear anything from USD or Davis until then. Sigh.

The waiting is so agonizing.. But it's better that being rejected on the spot. :) So far the most upsetting thing was being rejected by NYU after my file has been complete in the office for less that 5 days. :) oh well, guess they know exactly what they're looking for and it's not 156 lsat:) No surprise with GW, Yale. Was somewhat sad about U of Florida. Wanted to be closer to by boyfriend in Alabama. Santa Clara emails last week and said I'll hear back from them by the end of this months at which point i'll be either accepted or waitlisted. Somewhat good news i guess :) Fingers crossed! Paid deposit to Miami. Quinnipiac with 20,000 annual scholarship is very tempting.. But I'm gonna have to say no. I'd try to tranfer from there anyways and would have to pay them back.

Did you ask to be considered for both the full and part-time programs at Loyola or just the full-time?

Thanks

Yeah, I feel really fortunate with how things turned out. Congrats on Miami, and best of luck getting into Davis.
