Additional Information
VANDERBILT LAW CLASS OF 2011
Impressions/thoughts on schools and my cycle:
Vanderbilt (visited 2x) - visited right after admitted and at ASW; perfect (read: small) class size, excellent facility, wonderfully helpful/friendly people everywhere; students were happy to be there and pleased with job prospects/professors/etc.; Nashville is a great city that will only get better; got an offer I couldn't refuse
UVA (didn't visit) - my initial number 1; great city, great rep, huge OCI, journals/clinics just what I wanted; too far away from home and too expensive to beat 45K from Vandy; if Vandy's offer would have been less, would have interviewed and rode WL, but alas, not to be
Texas (didn't visit) - previously visited UG and know people in Austin - great city and school; lots of journals/clinics to get involved with; they don't give hardly any merit aid, which broke the tie with Vandy
Emory (visited) - nice campus, ATL pretty cheap but Horrible traffic; people seemed friendly and happy; located in good legal market (which means alot, whatever anyone tells you); would have gone there but their focuses (Crim Law, Corp Law) not really what I want to do
GW (visited) - good area of DC; WAY big and lots of people always buzzing around; everyone seemed somewhat cramped; will always be second fiddle to GULC, fairly or not; too expensive if you don't get merit/need grants; plus is that everyone OCIs there
Michigan (didn't visit) - great admissions department; huge OCI and awesome reputation, but very cold and somewhat large class size; WL agony and 44K/yr tuition not worth it in the end
GULC (visited) - location not as nice as GW, actually somewhat sketchy; VERY big and expensive as well; BUT great clinics/journals and academics and OCI is huge; got WLed and didn't think paying full price was worth it over 45K from Vandy
W&M (didn't visit) - small, isolated; great history and focuses on Con Law and other interesting aspects of law; good rep in Mid-Atlantic, but not national; OCI rather small; need to be top 25% realistically for BigLaw; W'burg not for everyone
Here's how my cycle went, chronologically:
11/14 - In at W&M via priority mail!
11/20 - Deferred by UT via e-mail
11/23 - Phone interview with GULC alumna
11/24 - In at Vanderbilt via snail mail!
12/12 - Deferred by GULC via snail mail
12/18 - In at Emory via phone call!
12/20 - In at GW via e-mail!
1/10 - Deferred by Michigan via e-mail
1/28 - And the inevitable ding from Harvard via e-mail
2/9 - Preferred WL from GULC via snail mail
2/29 - WL from Michigan via e-mail
3/1 - Vandy scholarship offer arrives via snail mail
3/6 - Emory scholarship offer arrives via snail mail
3/7 - Withdrew from W&M and GULC
3/11 - In at UT via e-mail!
3/19 - Vandy increases scholarship offer via e-mail
Withdrew from Emory
3/24 - UT scholarship offer via e-mail
3/25 - Withdrew from UT and GW
4/3 - Priority non-resident WL at UVA
4/6 - Withdrew from Michigan WL
4/8 - Withdrew from UVA WL

Congrats on Vandy! I hate to annoy you but I was wondering if they sent the letter to your permanent or temporary address? also do you know if your status changed on the virtual vuls thing?

ON VANDY! I actually have the same question as gator re: VULS.
Congrats Thursday, November 29th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
Thanks a lot bro, you're doing pretty well yourself. What's your top pick?
Vandy Thursday, November 29th, 2007 at 5:32 pm
Yeah, it's supposed to be good. That student life thing that they sent was pretty interesting I thought.

I'm leaning toward Georgetown because of its location, but it's going to be a really tough decision to make because of some of the offers I've gotten from other schools. Congrats on your acceptances!
GW Thursday, December 20th, 2007 at 11:34 pm
Congrats on GW!!!
Thanks! Friday, December 21st, 2007 at 6:50 pm
congrats to you too! I am really happy about the emory acceptance b/c I still haven't heard from vandy or wash u and I was beginning to wonder if I had somehow really messed up my applications.
I really don't know what to do or where I want to go. Staying at Florida would be easy and extremely cheap. I guess it depends on if I get any scholarships or if I actually get in to UVA, GULC, etc. Anyway, happy holidays and yay for GW!

I see you've got some great acceptances yourself. it's already a tough decision between W&M and GW -- hopefully it'll get tougher. I don't really have a top choice yet, UVA/gtown/Vandy would all be excellent. Good luck with the rest of your cycle -- I hope you get a yes from Gtown soon!

Wow, congrats on a full ride to Tiger Land! Are you going to accept it, and was there an interview process for the scholarship?

Hey. I noticed a lot of people got deffered recently. You seem to have taken it in stride. My best friend goes to Michigan Law and passed on the following advice: "If you really want to go there, I would suggest sending a letter expressing your continued interest to the person that sent you the deferral. Use it as a chance to talk about how you want to go there and your experiences. It is a good thing, though, I bet." I hope that helps. Good luck!

Good Luck! Wednesday, January 30th, 2008 at 2:11 am
Good luck with Michigan! I just sent them a letter of continued interest. Looks like it has been a good cycle, and I hope you keep finding success.

Congrats on Big Money from Emory! How are you feeling about the school after that? Its a really awesome school
Emory Friday, March 14th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
haha, I am pretty excited. A top 25 law school is giving me 90k! For real though, after you take that visit you will see why I am so excited. Amazing school
Withdrawing from Emory Thursday, March 20th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Congrats on all of your scholarships! I was just wondering what made you decide to withdraw from Emory in favor of Vandy when Emory was giving you the larger scholarship. Just hoping your reasoning might help me in making my decision as well.
UVA Friday, April 4th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Nope, I'm on the general waitlist at UVA, so interviews are not an option. My guess is that what distinguishes general from priority is the relationship between our numbers and the goal medians. Both of my numbers are below median (general). One of yours is above the median (priority).
Good luck if you decide to interview!
