Extra Curricular Information

Grades all over the place. Family tragedy during 2003 resulted in some pretty erratic academic behavior, and two, non-consecutive semesters off. My academic performance remained inconsistent throughout my time in college, no upward trend.

I completed an honors theses (eventually), and an internship, and volunteered for a political campaign. Other than that I'm as unimpressive a candidate as you can be.

Oh, and according to one lady at U of A, my LORs were pretty impressive.

Additional info & updates

I got into U Alabama with a very pleasant phone call from the admissions Dean, and was offered $12500 a year. I will likely qualify for in-state tuition, in which case my scholarship will be reduced to $8000 a year, leaving me around $4000 in tuition. Not bad. Considering these numbers, a very impressive visit to the campus, and the deluge of subsequent rejections, I'm all the more inclined to attend. Keep the debt low... Unfortunately, I have to respond to Bama by the 15th, and may not have heard back from some of other schools by then, as a consequence of a severely delayed 2nd LOR (requesting in October just didn't give em enough time).

Waitlisting at Georgia by email, and at W&M by letter.

Rejections at G-town, UF (!?) and Emory by mail.

All told, with my miserable GPA and desultory college career, I'm lucky to get in anywhere, much less with some dough.

Still waiting to hear from a few...

4/06/09: Admitted of the waitlist at UGA via on-line status (bored, decided to check at work); haven't received the letter yet...

4/14/09: Sent in deposit to Alabama. I was able to get them to increase my scholarship back up to $12,500 WITH in-state, which is nice, and makes attending there seem all the more likely.

4/15/09: Waitlisted at Wake via email. Kind of surprised, even though my numbers make this outcome plausible. I met with Mrs. Nutt, and have a pretty good application (at least, that's what UGA and UA's adcoms said...). Oh, and I mailed my deposit to UGA today too. I think the $50 bucks is worth the extra time to decide and the possibility of being reconsidered for a scholarship, unlikely as it is.

4/23/09: Waitlisted at Notre Dame. Not surprised by this one. Have to decide if I want to enroll in Alabama's summer program, so that I'd only have to take 12 credits in the fall, by next Tuesday though! What to do, what to do?

4/27/09: Rejected at UNC. I should have answered their essay like they asked.

Did you do anything special to get off the WL?

Nope, not a thing

I didn't do anything to get off, at least, not that I know of. I imagine it's just indexing. The campus is gorgeous and the town seems great, but I'm not sure that those together can overcome the combination of a scholarship and resident tuition at Bama. Whatya think?

The best tip I could give is buy the bibles, study your ass off, and take as many practice tests as possible. I studied 6 hours a day for a month, and if I had had more time I would have studied more.

Hey man, I am curious as to what your living arrangement is looking like for Alabama in the fall. I am looking for a potential roommate. My name is David Miller, and I'm graduating from Birmingham-Southern College this May... If you're interested, hit me up on here or on my e-mail or facebook me.
