Additional info & updates

6/24/2011: UNLV--Received a letter in the mail stating I was awarded a scholarship of 25% of my tuition. That equals $8725 for non-resident tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year. It is renewable provided I remain in the top 33% of my class. At least this helps offset my total moving/relocating costs for the first year :)

5/23/2011: UNLV--Received an e-mail stating "Your financial aid award package for the 2011-2012 school year has been revised." Logged into MyUNLV to see the revision and it looks like tuition and fees has increased by $680 so they adjusted my loan amount to increase by $680.

4/25/2011: UNLV--Received my MyUNLV log in info and reviewed my financial aid award. And now..the apartment hunting commences.

4/18/2011: Since I have submitted my formal acceptance/seat deposit to UNLV and formal withdrawals to the other schools that I've been accepted to, I have cleared out the history of my application cycle only to focus on the school I plan to matriculate in the fall.

4/12/2011: UNLV--After MUCH thought, debate and consideration, as well as several communications between myself and the admissions department at UNLV, I have decided to send in my seat deposit $ today. *Exhale* Now onto figuring out how I'm going to get myself down to Las Vegas...

4/1/2011: UNLV--Received my official packet via snail mail. I was a little disappointed to see the ASD was the day right after I received my packet so I didn't have much time to arrange/plan that visit. Spoke to admissions the same day to clarify a few questions. I really appreciated the accommodating, sincere and honest conversation I had with admissions. I hope to plan a visit soon but so far, UNLV is my number one choice...

3/28/2011: UNLV--Status checker mailing update to "Decision Mailed" 3/28/2011.

3/25/2011: UNLV--Received a call from admissions, status checker update and e-mail notifying me of my acceptance to UNLV. Today is a good day!

3/21/2011: UNLV--Received a call from admissions asking me why UNLV, etc. Then I asked when I could expect to receive a decision and they said anywhere between now and end of April. UNLV is my top choice at this point (it has always been one of my top choices) and I would be the happiest person alive if I were accepted.

3/10/2011: UNLV --The wait has been taking it's toll on me so I called both schools to find out when I can expect a decision. UNLV stated I "should" get one end of March/beginning of April.

12/13/2010: UNLV--Received e-mail stating my application is received and complete.

Thanks, julez. It stung for a couple days but I recovered my equilibrium. For someone with similar numbers to mine, you were very bold in your choice of schools and I think you will be rewarded for that. Here's to fortune favoring you! I'll be the first to congratulate you on UNLV or Iowa I hope.

Congrats on UNLV! Will you be attending? I'm sending in the deposit tomorrow. Pending a miracle or some $$$ I will be there!

I did go and it wasn't very exciting. I did grab a sweatshirt from the bookstore. That was my highlight. lol I was very impressed with each and every student and faculty member I spoke with. They really seem to have it together which is a definite plus. Not a big fan of LV outside of the strip, but everyone I talked to seemed to love it there. Well see!

I applied part-time day but got accepted for part-time evening. Are you full-time?

I don't believe in taking out loans to pay for living expenses when I can make enough to cover COL doing just about anything. Also, UNLV will grant in-state tuition if you are employed at least part time in a "professional position" by the first day of class. So by itself, that is like getting a half tution scholarship. If you are out of state I would look into that too!

Good luck!
