Additional info & updates

Record: 5-4-2

1-30-08: Got my first acceptance today from USD! It came in a white packet. I thought it was too small to be an acceptance letter (thought it would just be financial aid forms) so I was pleasantly surprised when it said I had been admitted! Feels good to clinch a law school berth for next year, even if it is just one of my safety schools.

2-7-08: Just found out USD is willing to give me $17,000 if I attend. Feels good to be wanted! I'll be even happier if I get an acceptance to Wisconsin! (my new number one choice).

2-15-08: Acceptance packet in the mail from Santa Clara! High five! Also an email from Tulane... it says... they want address info? Hmm... my status checker says they were supposed to mail something today, but didn't say what.

2-18-08: Happy President's Day to me! I got an e-mail acceptance from Tulane! Turns out they needed my permanent address to send my acceptance packet! Surprised that the admissions office people are working on a holiday, but I'll take the delightful surprise! The e-mail says I will be given a scholarship offer along with my acceptance packet through snail mail.

2-25-08: Rejection from Notre Dame. Oh well, you can't win them all. Was hoping I'd get lucky and make it on their waitlist, but by my numbers alone I'm not surprised by the ding.

3-4-08: The OSU status checker just went to "DECISION". I AM SO NERVOUS RIGHT NOW! I hope I get in... I haven't gotten an acceptance to a single non-safety school yet.

3-10-08: Got an acceptance letter from THE Ohio State University!

I probably had the worst college admissions luck ever 5 years ago. You know that 'kid with the good grades, SAT and ec's that got rejected from places he should have gotten in'? I was that kid. The only school I got into was my last resort safety school, and I really didn't want to go there. So today was the FIRST TIME in my entire life that I have received a school admissions letter that made me feel happy and like my work in college paid off.

3-19-08: In at UC Hastings! Got a letter in a small white envelope (tricky Hastings!). Happy but stressed about the admission, because now I have a difficult decision to make between SF and the Midwest.

Since I got into Hastings, I decided to withdraw from Santa Clara. They didn't offer me any scholarship money, so there is no way I'd pick them over Hastings.

3-24-08: Waitlist letter via snail mail from Wisconsin. This is depressing. I know a rejection is worse, but now for the next several months I will be stressed every day hoping for an acceptance. Oh well, LOCI time...

3-25-08: Got a scholarship letter from OSU. $8,250 annually, dependent on a 2.5 GPA. Not bad...

3-27-08: I sent in my housing deposit for UC Hastings today. Unless I get off the Wisconsin waitlist or get a miracle acceptance to USC or Minnesota, looks like I will be going to Hastings.

4-1-08: I withdrew from USD today. This means I have officially said goodbye to my college city. You stay classy, San Diego.

4-4-08: Turns out a rejection letter from BC was sent to my old address a month ago. My old roommate never bothered to tell me. I got my hopes up for a waitlist (I figured they were holding my application). False hope is always sad. Also I finally got my acceptance packet from Tulane (over a month late after they sent it to the wrong address). Their materials are REALLY nice (a tote bag and a folder!), but it's a shame that it took so long for me to get it. I simply don't have enough time at this point to give them due consideration. Oh well.

BTW, the money I got from Hastings is need based anyone is wondering.

4-10-08: Withdrew from Tulane. I am going to Admit Day for Hastings on Saturday and visiting Ohio State next week. Also still praying to get off the Wisconsin waitlist or get lucky at Minnesota/USC. Since my cycle is mostly done I have updated my profile to provide specifics. Hope this helps out future applicants.

4-18-08: Minnesota status checker changed to "Decision Letter Mailed". Since I didn't get a phone call, it's either a rejection or waitlist. We will see what happens next week.

The OSU was amazing. I was beyond impressed. Hastings was ok, but the thing about them not having a campus is quite true (and a huge negative IMO).

4-22-08: Waitlisted at UC Davis. Wow, so I got into Hastings and got waitlisted at Davis. I don't think I'd go to Davis over Ohio State, so I'm fairly sure at this point I will withdraw from their waitlist.

4-23-08: Rejection from Minnesota. I guess that's what happens when you apply at the end of the cycle.

I also officially withdrew from UC Davis.

5-10-08: Finally, I get my rejection letter from USC. If I end up going to Ohio State, which I will unless I get off the Wisconsin waitlist, the Buckeyes play USC in football this season, so there will be added enthusiasm in my anti-Trojan cheering.

5-16-08: OSU gave me $2k more, need based. Alright, so I'm still holding out for Wisconsin, but Hastings is eliminated from contention, so I'm gonna put the 'A' next to OSU, although that could change. I'm stoked either way! Both schools are awesome!

7-15-08: Today is the deadline to accept financial aid, so as I have accepted OSU's offer I decided to finally end the Wisconsin experiment and withdrew my application. It's great to finally be 100% sure where I'm going to law school. GO BUCKEYES!

When I saw the USD logo I couldn't believe it was already an acceptance since I have been waiting for about 3 months for all of my other schools. Good luck for the rest of the cycle, hopefully they will all be this fast.

Good luck with Madison, dude. If you can handle the weather you will absolutely love the school/town.

Congrats on OSU. I'm from the area and I can tell you first hand that it's an absolutely great place to go to school. I was wondering if or how long your status checker had changed from pending to decision before you were notified? Did you receive a phone call, email, or letter? Thanks and again, congrats!

A Question

Is your $17,000/yr., or a one-time deal? If it's per year, what is the requirement to keep it? Thanks!

Thanks!

I appreciate the reply. Where are you leaning currently?

I see!
