Additional info & updates

I am making the old adage, "there is safety in numbers" my official mantra and casting a wide net by applying to a broad swath of law schools. Hope they will be able to look past my less then ideal LSAT and instead at my excellent GPA and solid letters of recommendation. Hopefully the lawschool gods will smile upon me.

3/14/10-The first semblance of a response has come in the form of a "decision rendered" from U of A via online status checker. I now eagerly sit by the mailbox every day to no avail. I anticipate the deluge of responses will come swiftly in mid April. Waiting blows.

So I did a quick fact-finding mission about U of A. Apparently if you get accepted, they say so on the online status check. If your met with "Decision Rendered" it's the kiss of death, and your best bet is a waitlist. My question is why they don't just tell you "not accepted," or "waitlisted" instead of the cryptic "decision rendered" that still ultimately points to one of the two options? Ok, Enough ranting. It was a way reach school anyways, but the first is always the worst. Many more to come

3/15/11-Waitlisted at Miami via status checker. Total bummer. Maybe there's still a chance I can go if enough people drop, it's in a hot location but remains a pricey option

3/18/11- I have been religiously checking status checkers. Santa Clara says decision mailed so should know soon!

3/19/11- rejected at Utah via snail mail... But waitlisted at U of A! Happy to see they looked past my LSAT to give me a shot.

3/21/11- rejected at Santa Clara via snail mail. They did however have a very tasteful rejection letter, it somewhat lessens the blow.

3/23/11- Decision rendered for University of New Mexico via status checker! Looks like a few days wait on that one.

3/28/11- In at Nebraska via status checker!!! Although not my first choice, really happy to finally have an acceptance under my belt. I am officially going to law school! On a more somber note, rejected from New Mexico

3/31/11- Rejected at Hawaii via a very gracious email. Not to bummed, it fell significantly in the rankings, and spam and eggs aren't really my thing. Also got waitlisted via snail mail to Marquette. It's shaping up to be a waitlist summer

4/1/11- accepted at Indianapolis via email!! Going to have to cross off Nebraska now.

4/7/11- By some awesome twist of fate, I have been granted admission at Bloomington!!!! Unreal. For all the reverse splitters out there, there is hope for good schools. LSAT isn't the end all be all.

5/31/11- So all of my schools are in save one. Its been a fantastic (but expensive) cycle for me. I had to shell out close to 1500 dollars in application fees (How the hell did everyone else get great fee wavers?) but it still garnered some surprising responses. I have decided to matriculate to Bloomington in the fall, I wont be receiving a six figure scholarship to attend like some of my future classmates, but the prestige of the school and its vast alumni network silence the frugal side of me. It will be a new adventure, and I am looking forward to starting a brand new chapter in my life.

Congrats on your success thus far! Do you have a top three so far, or a school you'd really prefer!?

Do you think they rejected you because you sent your application past the 2/1 deadline?

Did you receive the waitlist re-confirmation email today from Marquette? Hoping this means there will be some movement.

Have you visited yet? I'm here right now and it's awesome! Will I be seeing you in the fall? Despite what the TLS haters say, I think it's worth it to go to a T30 at full sticker if you can, it's still a great, prestigious law school.

I just visited and the campus and surrounding area is truly amazing. Everything it is cracked up to be! I'm still not 100% sure I'll be attending but if you would like me to send you some pics from my visit, just say the word! Might I also suggest you begin looking for places NOW. They are running out of decent housing near the law school very, very fast. My potential roommate is actually going to sign onto a lease with me within the next week even though he has yet to visit the town! I can also give you a few references of good leasing agencies in the area and their websites. Good luck!

I get back home from my trip late tonight. I'd be happy to send you some pics tomorrow morning. In the meantime, if you're looking for a 1-2 bdrm I recommend Pavilion www.pavprop.com . They were great and I was going to get a 2bdrm with them. I actually just got a better offer from another University, otherwise I would've rented that place already! If you want to live in a nice house and rent a room with a bunch of roommates for a cheap price (like $350) then www.connaughtrentals.com has a couple rooms left close to the law building. I took pics of the outside of the rooms for rent houses and will send you them tomorrow. Hope this helps in the meantime. I'll be in touch tomorrow!

Congrats on your recent decision. I'm on the waitlist at The University of Arizona? By chance have you told them of your withdraw from there school, so that they may select some of us hopefuls of of their waitlist? Again, congrats and I wish you the best in Bloomington!

Congrats on IU Bl!
