Extra Curricular Information

Paranoia will destroy ya, but let's face it, this game is almost over- so the numbers are real. :)

Think average everything. That's me!

Additional info & updates

Oh God, it's done!

The Money Game:

Illinois, Michigan, Washington and Minnesota are apparently merit-only scholarships. Everything else is a combination of merit and soul-crushing financial dire straits. Goodness I hope I go to a school with a good LRAP.

---Berkeley money is entirely need-based, the amount given is for the first year only. If you're poor and want to go into public interest, go to Berk!

Fee Waivers I Didn't Use (Or Have Yet To):

Notre Dame, USC, Vanderbilt, University of Texas, Yeshiva, George Mason, U of Alabama (go Free Itunes!), and a few others. Also Quinnipiac. Quinnipiac many MANY times.

11/7/08: In at Duke via e-mail sent at 8:30 on a Friday night. I love you Bill Hoye, thank you for giving me some much needed peace of mind. Time for a drink or five.

--The acceptance package itself came in 11/14/08. It's a very pretty folder thing, and I even got a lanyard so hopefully I won't keep losing my keys.

11/12/08: in at Georgetown via deceptively small envelope, with a nice little handwritten note on one of the acceptance pages- which everybody gets, but is still a very nice touch.

11/25/08: Flew back to my home state of MN, and when I touched down realized I had a gotten a voicemail acceptance from the U of M en route. My love for the U is endless, Go Gophers!

---Got the official acceptance in the mail (12.8.08) along with a scholarship offer. Neat. Free money!

11/28/08: In at Michigan Ann Arbor- Awesome! I got a cool free zip drive too. I love swag. Also, it had a little personalized note on one of the pages, very nice.

12/8/08: In at Cornell via large envelope. Kind of figured because my status changed to decision last week and had a bunch of admitted student stuff on it, but now I have actual proof. Sweet.

12/12/08: Deferred at Columbia via (at least) nice letter on their nice stationary. Will reevaluate in March. Yeah, probably not gonna get in. Oh well, que sera sera.

12/12/08: Got into Washington University via e-mail. Neat, and kinda takes the sting off of Columbia. Hurrah!

12/30/08: Came back from X-mas vacation to find an acceptance to Illinois with nearly a full scholarship. Thanks guys! (I have no idea when the letter actually came, so I just set the decision for a few days after the letter was postmarked.)

1/9/09: Accepted at Northwestern via e-mail, sometime in the afternoon. After the acceptance e-mail, I then got an e-mail asking me to look at my status checker for the official letter.

--Is it bad that at this point I really look forward to getting the letters proper to see what kind of free stuff I can get? I really, really want a Free T-shirt.

2/2/9: Waitlisted at UCLA. Huh? Note: Didn't bother to send back the form, so I believe I informally withdrew.

2/12/09: Got an e-mail that I got sent to Berkeley Faculty Review. I'll count that as a deferral.

3/5/09: Oh UVA, you so classy. Had a really bad day, got an e-mail at 9 with a nice ol' waitlist to top it all off. ;P Withdrew immediately, as no offense, but Charlottesville is a little creepy. The McDonalds is red brick. C'mon!

3/19/09: ...got into Berkeley??? GOT INTO BERKELEY!!!

4/5/09: Columbia deferred me again. Until May. At which point they'll waitlist me. You heard it here first!

Our numbers are really close...good luck in your cycle!

I'm not sure yet; it's still pretty early in the cycle for me. I guess it boils down to where I get in and how my visits go. I guess financial aid might be a consideration as well. What about yourself?

Congrats on G-town. I doubt your numbers are "average." ;)

Tuesday, August 05 2008 at 08:00 PM

We have really similar numbers. I'm applying ED to Columbia too, so here's hoping for both of us! Good luck with your cycle!!

I actually have the same index number as you at CLS (my GPA is slightly lower, but paranoia....). Anyway, I'm a two-time LSATer, so we'll see. You must be happy to have two acceptances under your belt!

Congrats

On Georgetown

I don't know about you, but this CLS waiting is becoming seriously torturous.

Congrats on the acceptances. Your acceptance to Mich gave me hope until I realized you are likely fudging your #'s down rather than up. Good luck on Columbia.

Tuesday, August 05 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thanks! I was excited to get Georgetown, but I'm tired of the "hurry up and wait" game for CLS. Congrats on Michigan! That's pretty high on my list :)

Thanks lady!

I'm excited..it was definitely surprising. I hope you keep pursuing Columbia, though it's not like you don't have amazing options already!!! Honestly, my one regret is that I don't get to consider Michigan, I really fell more and more in love with it as I looked at their website/brochures/etc.

Nice going
