Additional info & updates

Hoping to stay in the Philadelphia area, Temple is #1 on strong local rep and in state price
#2 Villanova and Rutgers Cam are equally strong on local rep, much higher in price,
After #2 well see...

1/31/11
Accepted via email at UDenver last night. I would like Denver, but unfortunately my gorgeous wife and her solid job are probably going to keep my options limited to Philly schools; Temple, Drexel, Villanova, or Rutgers Cam.

2/10/11
Received admission email from Quinnipiac. Not a surprise. Taking the LSAT again tomorrow, most schools are waiting to get that score before making a decision.

2/19/11
Waiting sucks, sent emails to all the schools that had me on hold to tell them to go ahead and review my application, it probably wouldn't be worth the extra month I would have to wait to get reviewed.

2/26/11
Waitlist feels more like a rejection than a maybe

3/3/11
Got back a 164 on the Feb LSAT, and let out a huge sigh of relief. Now I guess Ill just sit back and wait for the acceptances to roll on in.

3/7/11
In at U of Richmond via a very strange phone call. I missed a call from the dean (who sent me a text), so I called her back only to hear a recorded message, that was supposed to be disguised as a real person. i.e. there were preprogrammed pauses where the accepted student would respond. It went something like,

"Hi this is Dean Rahman from the University of Richmond Law School! I'm excited to inform you of your acceptance to attend in the fall!............................Great! We can't wait to see you! Have you sent in your FAFSA yet?..................................O Great! I'm putting your acceptance letter in the mail today, so you should get it very soon, and Ill work on getting you a scholarship too!...............................Great! Give me a call if blah blah blah..."

After all this, the real Dean Rahman (i think), picked up the phone and basically said the same thing as the recording. It was very strange, I think they should just stick to emails.

3/11/11
In at Temple and Drexel via status checker! Feels good; I can finally exhale after a year of stressing about the application process.

Also in at American via email, albeit with an interesting disclaimer -

"*Please Note: This email is provided as a courtesy and is not an express or implied offer of admission."

Interesting, I wonder if they or other schools have had some embarrassing (read "litigious") incidents in the past with accidental auto - emails.

3/14/11
Seat deposit for Temple went in the mail today. Very happy with how this has all played out. However, it would still be nice to be able to turn down offers from Maryland, Arizona, Case, and Cincinnati though, hopefully Ill be able to do that.

4/15/11
All acceptances have been withdrawn except for Temple. Cincinnati, Arizona, and Pburgh are all still "in review".... I know that these schools can see I already sent a deposit to Temple, so I'm not expecting admits from any of them.

Yeah I was a bit surprised too, though it looks like people with similar numbers got WL'd too last year. I also made a huge mental error and sent in a personal statement to them with 3 spelling errors...whoops. Well good luck with Temple and the rest of your apps!

Thanks for your comments. My background, which I went into in depth in my personal statement, may have propelled me a little further than my numbers alone. Fingers crossed for you on Temple. Good luck.

LSAT Retake: You Too?
Tuesday, December 21 2010 at 07:00 PM

You are the only person who I know that chose to retake in February, like I did! I know how you feel about the terrible waiting game. Scores drop on Monday the 7th, so let us know how you did! I personally would have been thrilled to receive the 161 that you received. I would take 161 anyday!

Congrats!

I'm happy that you had a 161 in the first place, and then raised it to 164. I, on the other hand, wasn't so lucky either time. It could be because I practiced for three weeks before the first test, the for 40 hours before the second test (5 weeks). The great news is, this law school thing is a 2nd career for me, and subsequently, unlike you, it's not the same, with regards to the level of seriousness. You are just beginning your life, outside of your undergrad, and indeed, I can see how important it was for you. For me, 7 years out of my undergrad, it still stings, but I have something to fall back on. However, I will ride out the cycle, and decide upon what to do (bite the bullet, or wait until next cycle). I wish you the best, and I will continue to watch your cycle!

Yes I did get a call from Dean Rahman. But mine wasn't so strange as the text she sent me said she would call back later so I did not call her. Congratulations on the acceptances thus far!

Haven't heard back from Temple's Dean yet, and it has been over a week now. I've heard sometimes they'll send out a new mailing without replying to the e-mail. I'd like to be at Temple next year if the price is right. I grew up in PA and have been away from home for long enough. So maybe I'll see you there.
