Additional info & updates

Non-traditional student - 36 y/o. Almost all bad grades were received in early/mid nineties at community college. Now at RPI, GPA much better.

cornell put me on reserve. ugh. i wish i could be happier about that - eh, whaddya gonna do.

update: upenn reject a 1/2 page form letter. they say they expect to review up to 6400 apps for 240 seats

everything above was for the fall '05 cycle, everything below applies to fall '06 entering class

UVA: after rec'ing the deferral, I emailed them because I have some special circumstances that compelled me to appy EA. The deferral wasn't what I needed.

OK, sure - here's the deal - my wife is a psychiatrist looking to match at a fellowship program. She has to submit her rank list by 12/19. Our first priority is keeping the family together. If I were to get into UVA, Mich or GTown, that info would be relevant to where we rank her fellowships... It'd suck if I were to get into UMich and she were to match at a hospital in DC...

Anyway, I conveyed the above to UVA after receiving a cream colored envelope telling me about the deferral. They got back to me by email and told me that, from past experience, what I should expect is to be waitlisted and then rejected... Of course, anything could happen, but they didn't want to offer false encouragement.

Damn!

Washingotn and Lee: I applied on the nineteenth because my wife was offered a position at UVA Hospital and I hadn't been accepted to UVA. I called to explain the situation (my wife had one day to decide) - Ms. Hilton Howe was unbelievable! She listened to my circumstances and came through with a decision for me today - the twentieth. As a result, I've withdrawn from all other schools except UVA.

How did I hear back from George Mason? Well, I called when my wive's match date loomed - about two weeks earlier. I explained the situation, and asked for an expedited decision. On the phone, they made a cursory review of my file and told me that I'd be accepted. An email was sent immediately after the phone call.

I gotta tell y'all... with the exception of the T-14, all of the schools that I called and explained my situation to were remarkably helpful. Michigan, whose admissions office has a great rep, promised to do everything they could to expedite my app, but they didn't make a decision in time. Too bad too. Of all the T-14's, I think Michigan's program is most honest when they say they look at the whole application. I can't be sure, but I think my prospects were best at that school. Instead I'm left with a few sour grapes. I can say that I won't miss these northern winters one little bit.

Shocked and awed. And scared. And ecstatic. Will attend U.Va.

I'm guessing Raensaller (Spelling??). Thanks for your encouraging words. It is nice to know that someone understands. I likely would have switched too if I had ever guessed that I would be taking the road to law school. But who knows, all things for a reason.

Why aren't they listed? Their decisions could be really useful for splitters who have similar numbers to you. There are so few decisions in LSN for splitters that every little bit helps.

Hey nice job on UVA! I'm also a splitter, a non-trad, and IN off the waitlist at Virginia. It sounds ideal for you, you must be so excited.
