Additional info & updates

LOR issue resolved, complete almost everywhere. Now the waiting begins!

Richmond: Phone Call 1/3 - The staff there is so kind and helpful.

Fordham: Letter dated 1/11, recd 1/19 - "placed in a pending category". Responded via mail 1/20, coverletter expressing continued enthusiastic interest and Forham's Form request for continued consideration

Illinois - email 1/27 what a nice way to start the weekend! - recd package 2/1 advising offer of 15K/yr schollarship. Nice.

Wisc - letter dated 1/25, recd here in Brooklyn on 1/30. Wo hoo!!

W&L complete date (2/2/06) is the date I emailed them to check on the status...

2/9/06 - invited to Miami accepted students chat - a good sign ?? YES!! Rec'd acceptance letter 2/11

2/15/06 - Email from Michigan - app still pending, no decision yet...

2/17/06 - UVA waitlisted via email - regular waitlist for out-of-state (not holding my breath but ohhhh how I dream of C'ville)

Please please anyone with waitlist advice ??

2/17/06 HORRAY! In at W&L - small envelope.

2/23/06 - Call from the dean - Cardozo. How nice to have a NYC option!

2/23/06 - Hastings Admitted (status update on website!!)

Wow what a run! How will I ever choose??????

2/25/06 - W&L scholarship offer - $6000 - currently my top choice. Still waiting for the T14 dings...

3/3 Michigan waitlist. I responded requesting consideration for either summer or fall. Wow it would be great to get started in the summer. Plus, of course, Mich is just about the greatest school in the world.

Still no rejections (they're coming!) - I'm wanting to make a decision soon.

I'm looking forward to the W&L open house! If anyone else will be there for 3/25, drop me a line!

3/10/06 - Chicago rejection. the first of many, i think. Well, it's been a good run up till now. I think its decision time.

3/11/06 - man - the bad news just keeps rolling in. waitlisted at Emory ... :(

3/16/06 - PT accepted at Fordham... This really changes things.

3/17 scholarship offer from Cardozo by mail
3/26/05 - checked my mail from over the weekend. Still nothing from V, T, C, NYU, or W&M... But scholarship offers from Richmond and Wisc appeared.

3/27 the W&L open house ROCKED. Leave me a message if you were there, I want to hear thoughts :)

3/29 Fordham open house was great. I'm pretty sure I'll be going to Fordham

4/3 - submitted seat deposit to W&L. Still on the fence btween there and Fordham. Help!!

4/3 - recd email notification of UT waitlist.
4/4 - recd snail mail notification of Vandy waitlist

4/10 - finally, another rejection! :) NYU says no thanks - regular mail small envelope. It was a kind letter.

4/18 - withdrawals sent to 5 schools. Oh that was so hard! Especially UIUC...

Now deciding between:
#1: W&L - If my better half can't take the little town (we'll visit shortly) then:
#2: Fordham - And if we feel we can't afford it then:
#3: Wisconsin!

or.... if a waitlist comes thorugh then everything will change!

5/7 - Sunday night, recd a voicemail message left on Friday from Dean Trujillo.

5/8 - Returned Dean Trujillo's call and .... IN AT VIRGINIA!

5/13 - let the dates slip by for Wisc, Emory and Vandy - passive withdrawls. Still holding onto a few waitlists and the acceptances from W&L and Fordham, just in case somehow UVA doesn't work out. But as soon as I get final conf on Virginia, I'll w/d from all to open up my spots for all of you. :)

After acceptance to UVA (not sure of exact dates): letter from Michigan saying class if full, letter from W&M saying class is full (even though I'd informed them of my w/d earlier), phone call from Texas offering acceptance (which would have been a NICE surprise if I hadn't gotten into UVA.

May I say - good luck to next year's cycle. And best of luck to all my fellow LSNers who will be starting the great adventure of law school this fall! GO CLASS OF 2009.

Peace.

Emory e-mailed me that my app was complete and that I was under consideration for their Woodruff scholarship. They don't start reviewing any apps until January, so I am sure they are swamped right now! Best of luck!

Thanks

Congrats on Illinois. So far, so good, eh?

not sure yet!
Friday, September 09 2005 at 08:00 PM

My boyfriend and I are applying to law schools together, so I have no idea where we will be going and am trying to keep all of my options open. Thank you for the well wishes!

maybe
Friday, August 12 2005 at 08:00 PM

yes, Miami is tempting. We'll see what the $$ offer looks like. So far, I think Illinois is the forerunner, though I don't know if I want to be in the midwest forever. tough to choose. I hope another school in Virginia comes through ...

still waiting....
Sunday, September 18 2005 at 08:00 PM

goooooo emory! goooooo emory! hope you are surviving the waiting ok, and still hoping that your good luck leads to mine (and vice versa)...

fighting the good fight
Sunday, September 18 2005 at 08:00 PM

for every school that hasn't yet said a final "no, thank you", AND fighting the good fight (for money) from the schools who have already accepted me too! i have not even thought about eliminating schools from my list for any reason, not for location or cost or student satisfaction surveys, so the way i am looking at it, it ain't over, and nothing is off the table. i am not the one to ask about waitlist advice, but if you can think of anything substantive to add to your application, that you didn't feel you had room for before, this would be a good time to do it. if you want to have an offline convo about it, feel free to email me. wishing you the best of luck!

Illinois is a great school. We both could do a lot worse.

Hey - Are you planning on going to either of the W&L open houses? Curious if I could snag a buddy for the commute from NYC - let me know!

If you contact me via email, I'll send you my thoughts on the Illinois open house. Can't say they're profound, though.

chicago
Sunday, September 18 2005 at 08:00 PM

hiya! i am assuming that chicago notified via snail mail, since i heard from the person checking my mail and not through my email acct. am a little disappointed in all the waitlists even though i did expect it...still i suppose i was hoping for more concrete decisions...that were REJECTS. :D hey, nice wl on michigan!

Nice
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

To be honest, its either going to be a T14 or UT or maaaybe Vandy. I live in Texas, have a bunch of family in Texas, so it just makes sense to go there. Good Luck

W & L Weekend
Sunday, December 04 2005 at 07:00 PM

I will be at W & L on the 25th. See you there.

Fordham
Tuesday, August 23 2005 at 08:00 PM

that makes a lot of sense...In that case, you can't go wrong with fordham at all....I'm actually not heading to W&L for the admitted students weekend. Have fun and let me know how it goes :)

NYC option!
Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on Fordham. That'd be a hard one to turn down. Did you follow up with Michigan or UVa?

Choices
Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

They're a pain, no? I think we've pretty much decided to stay in Texas. We don't really want to deal with moving, I've got contacts here, my husband's job is going well... inertia wins again!

WI
Friday, August 12 2005 at 08:00 PM

I know - the $ threw me for a loop! I really have to consider Wisc if they're offering me money and I'm out of state. I liked Madison a lot when I visited. grr i cant choose. help me .

Congrats
Sunday, January 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

Congratulations on all of your acceptances. I would request, however, that you withdraw from any schools which you do not plan to attend. I am currently on the waiting list at William and Mary, and I would be very grateful if you withdrew if you do not plan to attend. Thanks, and I wish you luck in all of your future endeavors. You've been accepted to some great schools.

waitlists and w/ds
Friday, August 12 2005 at 08:00 PM

I'm pretty sure I will be attending Fordham PT, but may change my mind and go w/ W&L. Thus, I wont w/d from either of those any time soon. However, I will w/d from most of the others likely next week. I do plan to keep at least some of my waitlists open though, and that may include W&M (I got a soft spot for that place). We'll see some shakedown next month as deposits come due. Till then, patience, please, we are all under a lot of pressure right now and I dont think schools will move on their waitlists till after 1st deposit date anyway.

W & L
Monday, January 30 2006 at 07:00 PM

I really enjoyed W & L when I visited, enough that if i somehow get off the waitlist at Mich or UVA I will still strongly consider it. But then again, i went to a small private school in NC, so i am used to the whole small town southern vibe. If u thought the town was too small and quite, W & L probably isn't the place for you. Otherwise, i would go go there.

Hey!
Monday, January 30 2006 at 07:00 PM

Yes, I was in Lexington on 3-25 and it was great fun. I really enjoyed interacting with the prospective and current students. Did we meet? I was the only black male among the admitted students. Perhaps this might help you to identify me if we crossed paths. I sent in my deposit on 4-3 and it felt great. My problem now is that I have to decide on a full-tuition fellowship offer from IU-Bloomington by Saturday. I change my mind on these two schools several times a day. Money aside, I would stick with W&L, but that decision would cost at least 45K more for me before interest. Any thoughts? I have a close friend from the Fordham class of '05 and I loved the school and the Lincoln Center location. I wasn't offered any scholarships or need based aid and I am too old to take on 160k of debt. Wisonsin was also very high on my list from the beginning of the process because of the political atmosphere and the law-in-action approach to legal scholarship. What made you decide to apply to Fordham pt. Would this program allow you to keep your current job? Please keep me posted and feel free to weigh in on my upcoming decision.

W&L
Monday, January 30 2006 at 07:00 PM

I was at the party on Saturday night. I spent most of my time inside the house and on the back porch. I also left earlier than most since I was out late on Friday night with current W&L students. I took your advice and called W&L to see if there was anything they could do. I thought I would hear from them today and I am still waiting for a decision. After some number crunching, it looks like I am headed to IU unless something comes in from W&L.

Hooray for being plucked off the waitlist by Virginia! So awesome. I'm thrilled that your cycle is turning out for you. UVA is in such a beautiful place, too: I can't imagine anyone not having a great time there.
