11/22/06 - complete @ UVa via email.
11/?/06 - complete @ Georgetown via status checker.
11/29/06 - complete @ Stanford via email.
12/5/06 5:30pm HST - got a call from Dean Rob Schwartz at UCLA. My first acceptance! (Never got a competion notice, so I just put today's date because I don't like blank slots.)
12/7/06 - complete @ Harvard via email.
12/8/06 - complete @ NYU via email.
12/8/06 1:00pm HST - email from Toby Stock @ Harvard scheduling phone interview for next week. Little scary.
12/11/06 12:30pm HST - had the phone interview with Toby Stock today. Felt like it went well. He was easy to talk to.
12/13/06 2:00pm HST - email complete at Boalt. Nice to know.
12/15/06 - Georgetown status checker says "Decision." Oh boy, now to wait for the mail.
12/18/06 11:35 HST - woke up to a call from Toby Stock. In at Harvard! Amazing, can't believe it!
12/18/06 - got onto my computer after talking to Toby Stock and.... got an email from Boalt. In at UC Berkeley! What a happy day!
12/18/06 - crazy crazy day. After this morning's news I was floored to come home and find a package from NYU. 3 schools in one day. I don't know what to say!
12/18/06 - feeling flushed with false confidence from my acceptances today I sent Yale an email to see if I am complete, or if they even received my application.
12/21/06 - received an email from Yale letting me know I went complete on 12/3 and must have missed the first email they sent out. Good to know.
12/23/06 - received an admittance letter from Georgetown today. That was a nice Christmas present.
12/26/06 - received packages in the mail from UCLA and Harvard (no DVD's for me). And a Christmas card from Georgetown. Nice to be appreciated.
1/8/06 - Got the DVD's from Harvard. Public Interest, International, and Path to Teaching Law.
1/9/06 6:00pm HST - received an email from UVa. My status has been updated and a decision reached. Now to wait for the phone call or mail to see what it is.
1/9/06 - finally got an acceptance package from Boalt. Good info and a cool blue and gold Cal folder.
1/16/07 - In at UVa. Received a small letter in regular mail congratulating me and informing me that I am under consideration for Dean's Scholar merit scholarships. Nice!
2/2/07 10:00am HST - UCLA just called to offer me a merit scholarship. Don't remember the exact figures but it involved the equivalent of in-state tuition for a couple years and housing. That Dean Rob Schwartz is a really nice guy.
2/24/07 - in at UH via a letter dated 2/23. Nice to know I don't have to leave Hawaii if I don't want to to go to law school.
3/7/07 - sent a letter of continued interest to Stanford. Hope it won't hurt me since I haven't even been waitlisted yet. We'll see.
3/8/07 - updated my GPA ever so slightly (.02 points) to reflect my Fall '06 transcript. Maybe now Stanford or Yale will want me! (not that I'm complaining, already have some great choices.... but come on Stanford, please!)
3/24/07 - withdrawing from UCLA and Georgetown. Both wonderful schools and I hate to lose them, but I think it is fairly certain that I will end up elsewhere (especially if I ever hear good news from Stanford or Yale....please!).
3/31/07 - received a letter from UVa today offering Dean's Scholarship at $20,000/year. A tempting offer, especially considering the cost of living in Charlottesville.
4/2/07 - UH tuition deposit was due today. I didn't pay it, so I guess I'm not going there.
4/24/07 - award info from HLS and NYU. For HLS the award is redetermined every year. I've extrapolated out the first year award as if it were for all three years (as if my need won't change). Basically just for my own comparison purposes. For NYU the 3rd year is at $10,000 if I do firm work during 2L summer or $20,000 if I do public interest. So the amounts above reflect the absolute max I could be awarded at both schools - it will likelly be less.
HLS is also offering $4,500 in HLS Unsubsidized Loans.
Obviously this is a happy problem to have, but it is interesting that everyone is offering me about the same amount of money. No clear stand out for financial purposes.
4/26/07 12:05p HST - received rejection email from YLS. Bummer.
4/26/07 - sent in my tuition deposit to HLS. However, I did tell Boalt "maybe" as well. I am not quite ready to rule out the West Coast due to family reasons.
4/27/07 - sent UVa a withdrawal email. Too bad, the quality of life there sounds great.
4/29/07 - just withdrew from NYU. That was difficult. What an amazing experience that would be to go to that school in that place. Oh well, I can only attend one law school.
4/30/07 - received waitlist letter today from SLS, dated 4/27. I will definitely stay on. I think Stanford is still my top choice, but I've been embracing HLS lately and feeling frustrated at SLS' slow response. Still, a waitlist is not a rejection and it is very exciting.
6/15/07 - sent an email to Boalt officially withdrawing my "maybe" status. It was a difficult decision because the climate at Boalt (geographically and socially) seem really enticing.
7/23/07 - Considering myself as officially attending HLS. I'm not withdrawing from the SLS waitlist, mainly because I'm curious what, if anything, will happen with them, but I haven't been aggressively pursuing the waitlist option, so I doubt they'll contact me. Ultimately, I decided on HLS because at this point my interests are in legal academics, clerking, and some sort of work in appellate law. Of all the schools I was lucky enough to be admitted to, HLS seems like it will offer me the best opportunities in those areas.
Good luck to everyone in their law school careers and applications!
8/18/07 - arrived in Cambridge to find a letter, dated 8/9/07) from Stanford waiting at my new apartment. Rejected off the waitlist. Oh well, at least my cycle is complete, and I still get to go to a really great school.
You're looking great for this cycle - Good Luck!
