Extra Curricular Information

Nothing exciting or outstanding.

When I was in college, I was a student senator, two summers as an orientation ambassador, founding sister of a sorority, athlete mentor, and freshman mentor. I also was a part of a service organization and did a ton of community service. I had a school to work job where I averaged about 12 hours per week. One summer I worked as a bank teller for a bank in Athens, GA (UGA).

Hit me up if you have any questions or just curious about something on my LSN profile!

Here is how my cycle turned out as of 6-30-2010

Additional info & updates

Over three years in the Securities Industry, including over one year experience working for a Transactional Securities Attorney. I am hoping that my experience will get me into my reach schools.

UPDATE: For those wondering, I ranked my top 4 choices. After a long debate, I have decided that I want to stay in the South and close to my family. I do love the idea of moving to Boston but can't see myself choosing a Boston school over University of SC, especially since my parents are older and I would rather be an hour drive away than a 2 hour plane ride. So now that you can see UNC is my number 1 choice, maybe saying a little prayer for me will help. It is a tad bit of a reach but I am in state and wrote a touching (in my opinion) why UNC essay.

Timeline:

1-7-10, Received a Rejection from George Mason and a Waitlist from Loyola. I guess I am not as special as I hoped. Hopefully my top choices will see otherwise.

1-9-10, Received an Acceptance package from Suffolk. I hope that some potential scholarship information will follow.

1-12-10, Received a $90,000 (over 3 years) scholarship to Suffolk in the mail today! I love Boston and this will really influence my decision. Thank you Suffolk!

1-23-2010, Received an Acceptance letter from the University of South Carolina! I am stoked about this one because it is my number 2 choice and close to my entire family!

1-26-2010, decision has been mailed by FSU, probably a rejection because I have not received an acceptance phone call and people with identical numbers have already been rejected. I guess a rejection will sting the ego but since I have been accepted to my number two choice, I will get over it.

2-2-2010, rejection letter from FSU, just as I expected.

2-15-2010, nothing new to report, just patiently waiting.

3-3-2010, still nothing new to report. I just really want to make it into one of my reach schools. I want the admissions committees to see value in my application and make an investment in me. I have great work experience and want to pursue a career in enforcing securities laws, which is what my personal statement touched on. I am relevant and securities law is definitely more relevant ever since Mr. Madoff. Please admit me!

3-5-2010, waitlisted at UNC today via snail mail. I know this isn't an acceptance but I am super excited and will wait this one out.

3-10-2010, waitlisted at UGA today via email. Excited about this one too and will wait this out. My parents own a home 15 minutes away from UGA so cheap living expenses!

3-19-2010, waitlisted at Tennessee, not waiting this one out. Clemson orange is way better than Tennessee orange.

4-1-2010, withdrew from Campbell today. They sent my scholarship information to me maybe a week and a half ago. I wanted to visit the law school before paying a seat deposit. I called the admissions office and asked if I could have an extension on the seat deposit (to gain more time to visit the school) and they refused. Their loss!

4-20-2010, I got the "you are safe for now" email from UGA. I am happy that great schools feel that I am worthy of staying on the waitlist. My LSAT score is not in line with people admitted to UGA or UNC and I trust that every one feels like they are special in one way or another to get accepted off the waitlist. I admit that I feel that way too and I have some "soft" factors that I would like to think not one other person has on the waitlist. I have already written my personal statement and LOCI in regards to these "soft" factors. We shall see! Good luck to all!

6-24-2010, I got an email (a mass email) from UGA asking if I wanted to stay on the waitlist and to provide a phone number to be reached at if accpeted. The email stated that they might call the week of orientation and thus one would need to be prepared to drop everything and go. It seems like they are trying to weed out the people who would possibly say no.

I wouldn't worry too much about the waitlist from Loyola-Chi. They waitlisted a TON of really qualified ppl. I don't know what their problem is!

Congrats

Congratulations on your acceptance and scholarship. I got one too and I know what you mean about it influencing your decision. I feel like I would be crazy to turn it down! Good luck with your other apps, maybe I'll see you in Boston

I'm not sure about a LOCI to UNC. The letter didn't seem to encourage them. I'm looking to get another LOR in though. I didn't RSVP to the USC ASD in time. Now that I'm WL at UNC I'm considering calling and seeing if they'll let me come. However, I'm in Chapel Hill without a car so I'd need serious parental help to make it happen.

I'm not going to be able to go to the Open House so I would definitely appreciate it if you would share anything interesting with me! Thanks!
