My Cycle:

Note: I apologize for how wishy washy this all is. I had a rough cycle for many reasons and had a very hard time deciding what was best for my future. However, I am extremely pleased to be a Wake Forest Demon Deacon and I now wholeheartedly believe that Wake is truly the best fit for me, even though UNC was very strongly my first choice.

1-8-10: I'm very excited by my first acceptance! I'm going to law school! I logged into my Georgia State status checker to see "Congratulations, you've been admitted!" Got a fat packet in the mail from GSU when I returned to school from winter break on 1-10-10.

1-12-10: Fat packet in the mail from UMiami. Hoping for some $$$.

1-20-10: Admitted to Charlotte via email. Very disappointed with the scholarship offer. They knew I was applying to UNC too. Why would they bother to offer me a scholarship that still makes UNC cheaper? The possibility to graduate debt free was the only appeal.

1-23-10: "Held for further review" at UGA via status checker. I'm not marking it down as a WL like so many others have because I still have hope. I'm extremely interested in UGA so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

2-4-10: Completely shocked by the WL at Wake Forest via email. I just don't get it.

2-27-10: Small envelope in the mail with an acceptance from South Carolina. Even though they're low in the rankings, they're a good option for me due to location. The letter also said I would be in consideration for merit-based scholarships which will be awarded in March. I'll be needing a significant one to make it affordable though. I just wish they would change their mascot. I don't want to be a "Cock".

3-2-10: Withdrew from Miami. No money = no me in nasty, sweaty, hot Florida.

3-5-10: Found out my parents didn't submit my scholarship application for Georgia State. So probably won't be going there. Thanks Mom and Dad *sarcasm*.

3-10-10: Waitlist email from UGA. The text of it is mean. It says "The Admissions Committee would like to invite you to join the waiting list." The word "invite" got me all excited thinking they were inviting me to join the Class of 2013. I know, how ridiculously optimistic of me. I asked to be put on the WL but I know I'll never come off of it with my LSAT. Now all that's left is UNC, my one final hope.

3-14-10: Waitlist letter from UNC in my mailbox upon returning from Spring Break. It probably got there the day I left for Spring Break. I elected to join the waitlist through August 25th. There's no better place for me to go to school so I'll hold on as long as possible. However, I will go to law school this year, even if it is not at UNC. I will not go through this process again.

3-19-10: Got a reminder email about a fee waiver at Campbell. Given the waitlists I figured it couldn't hurt to toss them an application. They're a lot more appealing than they used to be.

3-26-10: Mailed my withdrawal form for Georgia State. My mother said she would not help me if I attended GSU. Without her help, I don't even have the deposit money. Really wish she would have conveyed this earlier so that I didn't waste everyone's time and money by applying.

3-27-10: Snail mail letter from South Carolina offering me a non-resident merit scholarship. I put $16,000 because the actual value won't be known until the Board of Trustees meets but $16,000 is the minimum. I'm quite happy about this. I'm also extremely happy to learn that I can get it as long as I remain a non-resident. I really would not want to change my residency if I went to South Carolina. There was no mention of GPA or rank requirements either. This scholarship means that South Carolina is still in the running.

4-6-10: Status checker for Campbell reads "Admitted - Congratulations!" No email or anything yet.

4-13-10: Yet another wrench in my cycle. I just saw the new USNWR Rankings and University of South Carolina fell to third tier. So now I have no ranked schools in my list of acceptances. No idea what to do now. Hope Campbell sends me some money so I can at least deposit somewhere.

4-14-10: I was hearing too many bad things about Charlotte on top of the fact that they didn't give me enough money. The best thing about Charlotte was the facilities and Campbell's are nicer. Plus, as much as I love the city of Charlotte, Raleigh is a better location for work opportunities. Charlotte is off the list. I also got a lovely portfolio from Campbell in the mail today with my official acceptance letter. Very nice touch.

4-26-10: First deposit down at Campbell but won't attend without a scholarship. Hoping lots of people with schollies don't deposit today so they can reroute some of that my way.

5-1-10: I let the deposit deadline for USC lapse. I'm going to have faith that I will get off of a waitlist. I need to go to a good school and a school I'll be happy at. Those schools are UNC, UGA, and Wake Forest.

5-19-10: I didn't pay the second deposit at Campbell. They clearly weren't going to offer me any scholarship and I just couldn't put myself into over $100,000 of debt for a Tier 4 school. So *gets down on knees* PLEASE accept me UNC, UGA, or Wake!!! I beg you, literally!

6-29-10: Got a phone call from the awesome Melanie Nutt today offering me admission to Wake Forest. I have gladly accepted!

8-13-10: First day of orientation at Wake. I DEFINITELY made the right choice. Wake is the best! Deacs FTW!

Hi, I just noticed we have almost identical numbers and demographics, I've been looking for a numbers twin! Is UNC your #1 as well?

I noticed that you were on the UNC thread as well after I commented but didn't want to seem like a super creeper by pointing that out in my last comment. I actually just graduated from State (was originally a bio-medical engineering major, later realized how awful engineering was) and that sparked my interest in bio-medical ethics/law/policy making.

I hope we're both here in the fall as well! Seriously, if they would send me an acceptance letter I would gladly write them a deposit check that same day. You're on my watch list, good luck! Here's to hoping we get some good news this week!

Thanks!

Aw thanks! At least I was prepared for it. Still, the first wait list kind of stings. You've survived this batch so hopefully you're in the clear for an admit soon!

Hey I know you from TLS (I'm jerzgrl). I just wanted to say hi and that I also received a SHOCKING WL from wake forest, so I giggled when I saw your comment on it. I'm sure you'll get off of it.

Yeah I know. I was pretty sure that I'd get in, and I really shouldn't have been so sure of it but I thought I stood a very good chance. And of course, it doesn't bode well for the rest of the cycle but hopefully something good for both of us!

Don't think it's impossible to get into UNC after being WL at wake. I was waitlisted at Wake a few weeks ago and received my UNC acceptance last week. Don't give up hope!

Hi, I applied to SC and we have similar numbers... did you really get your response back that soon?

You got waitlisted at UNC? No! I'm so sorry! You're staying on, right?

Hi, I am sorry to hear about your waitlist at UNC. Are you going to be sending a LOCI? I wanted to ask if you were going to go to admitted students day at U of SC this coming weekend?

I know how you feel. Seeing a small envelope in my mailbox with the UNC law logo on it was probably one of the most awful feelings ever. I honestly was a little shocked because I felt my numbers were dead on from last years stats and because I tried harder on my UNC application than on any other. I had Bern aiming for UNC for two and a half years and in three seconds it seemed like all my hard work was worthless...I really wanted to call and be like "really? Half the people you admitted don't give a flying flip about you like I do.". But alas, I'll ride put the waitlist through June 30. I bet you will get off at either uga or wake though. Oh well, did it seem like this year they put a lot more emphasis on LSAT scores? Damn reading comp....

Wednesday, December 02 2009 at 07:00 PM

I just finished writing my LOCI to Carolina. I actually had something new to announce that I didn't put in my applications for the purpose of a potential LOCI. As for ASD at USC, let me know if you are able to go. I just plan on driving down that morning and leaving that afternoon, so not making a big weekend out of it. If you can't make it, I will be sure to repeat anything worth repeating for you.

If I actually get in, I might literally die of shock. I shall specifically will my acceptance over to you :)

Aw, I had a semi meltdown in front of my mom. I feel bad for all my family members who really wanted me to go to UNC. My grandpa was so upset and threatened to stop sending UNC alumni money. Last year they admitted 23 off the waiting list, I sure hope we are part of that group this year! Maybe tons of people won't deposit on April 15 and they will have to go to their wait list in April? Wouldn't that just be a dream come true.

Hey girl! I just wanted to pass on that they said that they hope scholarship information will be mailed by the end of this week. Also, one of the student groups compiled housing information for off campus places...I can email to you if you would like.

Congrats on the USC scholly!! 16,000 minimum? Not too shabby. I bet you'll get something above 20K though.

Friday, March 05 2010 at 07:00 PM

This response is way late but I took a self-imposed break from LSN because I think I was developing an addiction. Good luck with the UNC WL, and congratulations on the schol offer at USC. Anyway, good luck finishing out these last few weeks, and maybe I'll see you in the fall!

Wake should be going to their waitlist any day now, I can't imagine you not getting off of it! Have you heard anything more from UNC? I talked with someone in their office this week and they said that they will not go to their waitlist, if at all, until July. I'm signing my apt. lease in early July :(

My you've had a busy month! I was so shocked to get that waitlist update email last weekend! I had just emailed Dean States that morning too and he got back to me within minutes! Too bad all the people they have accepted off the waitlist so far have had 164+ lsats, but hopefully a couple of white female in staters won't send in their deposits in June and both of us will get off!

Wake!!
Thursday, May 21 2009 at 08:00 PM

Just read your post on tls about Wake!! I knew you would make it off the waitlist! Have you been over to visit yet? I love the school and campus. Oh, if you go, be sure to stop by the student store, they have a super soft comfy grey law school shirt, I wear mine constantly! Congrats again!!

Ah just saw what you posted on my page. I got a one bedroom at the pines at bethabara for $600 a month but with free cable. It's more for graduate/law/med students and they try not to rent to undergrads. Otherwise, any of the crown apartments are popular and a lot of people on tls like them too but they are a bit more noisy(undegradish) and expensive but they are newer. If it makes a difference, the crowns are on the bus lines. All of those apts are within 5 minutes of campus, but the pines just seemed more mature and a better deal for me. I move in July 15, ah! I've heard some pretty sketchy things about other apartments (not the pines or crowns, deacon ridge is also nice too but super expensive) so if I were you I would check the pines and crownes out first.
