Extra Curricular Information

Now that I've confirmed, here are my stats.

Worked full time throughout almost all of undergrad. Graduated in 2005 and now have completed almost 3 years high responsibility professional work experience.

Strong PS to Virginia and UNC. Not as strong of one (my great one didn't fit the question) to Stetson and Richmond.

Strong LOR's from professors I worked extensively with during undergrad.

Zero interest in "big" corporate law. Currently planning civil/public interest/education law in the Tampa area.

Additional info & updates

Good luck to everyone else still deciding. This decision process has been more difficult than I originally thought it would be. I wish you all the best.

4/12/08- Accepted offer at Stetson. I like the trail advocacy and elder law programs, love the staff, faculty, and students I've been in contact with so far, adore that area (and only that area) of Florida and, of course, very much appreciate the free tuition and books stipend.
4/6/08- So... I just sent a withdraw to Virginia. It all made sense in my head when I did it. No free money, even from a T14, just added up to too much debt. $170K in loans (aka: $2200/month student loan payments)?? Even with the guaranteed job prospects, that number is just ridiculous for someone interested in public service. Now that I've had some time to think for a few hours, that may have been a hasty decision. Oh well, too late now. But, I think I'm OK with that decision. We'll see if I still feel that way in 3 years.
4/1/08- Scholarship offer via e-mail from UNC.
3/28/08- Sent a letter of withdraw to Richmond.
3/24/08- In at UVA. Once again, another small evil looking envelope. (I think they're intentionally trying to scare people.)
3/21/08- Lovely conversation on the phone with UNC about scholarships!
3/17/08- Letter from Richmond confirming scholarship.
3/14/08- Scholarship offer via e-mail from Richmond.
3/10/08- Finally some more news. In at UNC. Small white (evil looking) envelope, with a fabulous surprise inside!
2/2/08- Phone call from Stetson professor to confirm receipt of envelope.
2/1/08- Overnighted Fed Ex envelope from Stetson- Accepted.
1/29/08- Stetson online tracker went to "Decision Mailed"
1/7/08- Two large cream envelopes from Richmond.
12/30/07- In at Richmond, per phone call from the Dean! YAY, I'm going to law school!

I am not sure yet... FSU has one on the same weekend. It is possible though...

If I am correct (I know someone who received the same scholarship several years ago and has since graduated) there is only about 10... So I think it is pretty selective. So congrats to you as well!

I live about 3 miles from Stetson, so I'm probably going to at least go and check it out. The dinner they are having the first night is at a place that is pretty good. Where are you from?

Thanks

Yah, it is between FSU and GW right now. Unless Michigan comes through lol.

FSU

Yah, I went... It was pretty good. Honestly, I was not impressed with the campus itself. However, the faculty and staff are really nice and I want to go into government work, so that is really drawing me. I am gonna call them next week - hopefully I can draw some money out of them... lol Do you know where you are headed?

Oh yah...

the $100,000 less in tuition is a big draw too... lol

FSU

Yah I am pretty much set on them. If they offer some additional money I'll probably even withdraw from the waitlists as I do not even want to be tempted. By the way I hope those UNC scholarship talks produce some money

Congrats!

On Virginia!

Congrats

on all of your acceptances. Don't regret the decision, free tuition is free tuition. Public interest work is admirable and there is no way you would be able to go into it with nearly 200,000 in debt. Good luck in Stetson, its a great school!

Yah I know right. I even ASKED them for money. I was like "I'm thinking either FSU or GW, if you offer some money, then I will deposit" (in nicer words though) They gave me nothing! (the $1,000 was before I asked) So, needless to say, I feel I got ripped, and I say that as non-pretentiously as possible) In reality, I screwed up... They offered scholarships in the beginning but I never applied. My error though! Yes, we should definitely keep in touch!

OOOOhhhhh
Monday, November 05 2007 at 07:00 PM

I understand now. No I meant GW is about 210,000, and FSU is about 60,000. So yah, I really have no room to complain there!

Congrats on a great cycle. If possible, could you please withdraw from UNC since you're not headed there?
