Extra Curricular Information

*~ There is a reason for my not putting my numbers up right now: haters. Suffice it to say, a few of my schools are reaches, and I don't need anybody telling me I don't have the numbers. I know that already. What I do have is God on my side. We'll see how it pans out.~*

Honors:
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award
Broadwell Chinn Award (institutional award named for the first black graduate at my university)
Dr. Allen Koppenhaver Prize (given to inter-disciplinary English major)
Two honor societies

I play the piano in a university-sponsored jazz ensemble. I am also a member of the university Handbell Choir. I student-teach piano for other music majors as well as beginning piano students. I accompany the university's gospel choir, and I was the president of the choir last year, and this year I am the director. I am also an organist, a flutist, and a violist. I have worked as an accompanist at a local church, and I also worked in my county as a seasonal clerk.

I am a member of the black student group on my campus. I serve on a budget committee as their representative. I am also a member of the Pre-Law Association at my university.

I started an independent project in which I read a list of 100 classics to which I had not been exposed. I thought that it behooved me as an English major to know these classics and to be able to contribute useful and helpful information in class.

Additional info & updates

I see life as a learning experience, with everything one does as part of a lesson. Every experience you have is supposed to teach you something. What I have learned from my law school admissions process is:

1) I am not a patient person when I really want something.

2) [N.B. This is not meant as a blanket generalization, but it has been true in my case.] You will almost inevitably be sucked into the prestige whirlpool. When I first started my process, I was thinking Ohio State University would be my top school. I sent my applications to the other schools because I wanted safeties and a few reaches. I sent applications to the schools I had either wanted to apply to as a senior in high school, or just thought about the option. After I applied, I realized that there were rankings...and that if I wanted a good job I had to go pretty close to the top. So now I'm holding my breath for the top schools hoping one of them will bite and let me in.

3) In law school admissions, it's not just an application to some school and then you forget about that school until you hear from them again. During my cycle, I have obsessively checked my e-mail and status-checkers, called my mother to see if any mail has arrived for me at home, and other things that have been out of my character.

In short, what I guess I'm saying is that this law school admissions process will change your whole view of yourself. I had no idea I was this ambitious, that I was this obsessive, or that i was so impatient...

And look at you tearing it up with your acceptances...get it! What is your top choice? I'm from Indiana...are you freaking out about moving from a small state to a booming one? If you have any questions let me know.

Thanks! The way I see it. You can only be admitted if you apply. So hey we both took that step. We will have to wait to see what's next. Good luck on getting an outright acceptance there, and congrats on an impressive cycle thus far!

Thanks!

Thanks for the comment post. You're cycle seems to be going pretty well yourself. Duke definitely would be a good look (although most top 14's are lol). I'll be keeping an eye out on the rest of your cycle as well.

Thank You

Tough luck on the Duke WL, I got the same e-mail on the same day... it sucks that every school's application count shot through the roof this year. Good luck on your remaining three nonetheless!

Have you decided which school you are going to attend? I totally agree about the obsessive impatient behaviors I've learned about myself. This cycle has been so frustrating.
