Additional info & updates

Whew - now that i'm in at G-Town, the pressure is off. The letter was dated 11-27-06, arrived in a cream envelope with personal note from the dean.

12-16-06 - letter from U of MD, this was my safety school and since I'm in already at Georgetown, there's very little chance I'll go to U of MD.

12-18-06 - oh well, kinda of expected it, at least I still have a shot at Columbia. Also, I've been getting pretty excited about G-town's programs, so at least I'm no longer under contractual obligation to attend Columbia , although it remains my top choice.

12-23-06 - letter from Penn was dated 12-15-06. Again, I kinda expected this, as I said to my friend while opening the thin envelope: "this could be bad news or very bad news", it was only bad news. Having the G-town acceptance takes the sting away from all of this.

1-3-07 - nothing really to update. I'm noticing a lot of paranoia on this site from people woried about admissions officers seeing their profiles. I don't think I have much to worry about, but I'd like to make it clear that U of MD was my only safety school and that all 6 others are schools that I would love to attend. I did a lot of research before narrowing my choices down to 6 target schools and if accepted at any of those whose decisions are pending, I will consider attendance. Columbia was my ED choice and remains my top choice, but I am no longer contractually bound to attend Columbia, and I wil make a good faith effort to visit, speak to alumni, and seriously consider any other school that offers me admission.

1-3-07 - Here I thought there was nothing to update. Then I got my deferred email from Mich. That's the third in a row. Sigh. Still a good sign that I haven't been rejected anywhere yet. Guess it's time to write that supplemental essay... sigh...

1-21-07 - my first rejection - ouch.

1-29-07 - nothing new. I sent out a letter to CLS and UPenn last week. I'm hoping it will make a difference.

2-5-07 - on "hold" at Chicago. I figure that's the same as a deferral, bascially they want to wait longer to make a decision and want additional material.

2-28-07 - mailed out additional essay for Chicago. Still waiting to hear from other schools but I'm going with the no news is good news attitude.

3-2-07 - waitlisted... probably the first of many...

4-4-07 - got accepted into the Global Law Scholars Program at G-Town!!!

4-5-07 - 'nother day 'nother waitlist

4-11-07 - 'reserved' at Columbia. Letter was dated 3/30/07, but I just got home today after being gone ten days. I guess I'll stick with it.

4-23-07 - waitlisted at Chicago. I'd like to feel good about all these waitlists (i.e. not rejections) but a death in the family makes all this seem a little silly, who the hell really cares which of the t14 I go to? I have half a mind just to withdraw everywhere and spend next year on a pacific island, but my better sense tells em to stay on waitlists and see what happens...

6-15-07 - I hate NY anyway

Midreshet Harova - its an all girls school located within the walls of th old city...pretty cool experience...but then I ended up majoring in Philosophy...and had to find a happy balance with religion.

congrats to you on georgetown! you've got an impressive background so I think you might get some of those deferrals to turn into acceptances... and given your language skills, you no doubt understand this screen name.

Nah... it was a straight rejection after having not heard anything from them ever. G'luck though!

supplemental essay
Thursday, December 21 2006 at 07:00 PM

Just curious what you wrote your supplemental essay on. Also, do you think that is something that is helpful to send even before hearing that you are waitlisted somewhere? Or is it strictly only appropriate once you see that you have reason to send it? I haven't heard back from most places yet, but I'd like to do anything I can to help my chances... Thanks!

thanks

Thanks for all that info. Is there a standard format for how to do a letter of continued interest? Or a standard length guideline? I want to start thinking about that so I can do one down the line but don't know much about it.
