Additional info & updates

Please note that the dates for sent and complete files are from my memory, and therefore may not be entirely accurate, but I have tried my best to recall the dates.

Florida Coastal-I received an acceptance shortly after I sent the application on their website. They offered me 12,000 a year, contingent on being full-time and maintaining a 3.0 GPA or remaining in the top thirty percent of my class. The envelope was normal-sized, but it was somewhat thick (medium I'd say).

Widener-This was my second acceptance; they offered me 10,500 a year, contingent on maintaining a 3.2 GPA. Widener's envelope large from what I recall (I applied to the Harrisburg campus, as it is close to my home and like it there). I asked if they would raise it, since someone with my numbers (GPA and LSAT) earned a full ride here last cycle. They are offering me 14,000 dollars a year.

Duquesne-The envelope felt light, but I was accepted! I'm glad, because I really enjoyed visiting Pittsburgh and Duquesne (as I did Widener in Harrisburg as well).

Temple-Rejected me in a small envelope. I was surprised, because they even say they overlook the numbers if you have certain factors (which I had!), so I'm kind of jaded after this one...

Catholic-At first I was dissappointed to see the envelope, for it looked small, then I became excited when I felt it had more than paper in it, only to discover...it was explaining the waitlisting procedure. Not cool at all!

Iowa-Small envelope said I was placed "on hold," like 50% of all applications...that means I'm deferred, right, and might pick me? A little confused...if anybody knows, let me know! Not a big surprise though, with its ranking and all.

Pittsburgh-After a long hiatus, I received another decision...a waitlist by email. I thought I had a much better chance at Temple and they rejected me outright, whereas Pittsburgh at least put me on waitlist (where they stated that they take 10-25% of those on it, which isn't bad compared to some waitlists like Iowa's).

Buffalo-I received a gigantic envelope with a nice picture of the campus! They even personalized my acceptance letter with a handwritten note saying my volunteer work and academic success will be a welcome addition to the school. What people have been saying about this school truly striving for diversity of all sorts may in fact be true...

New Mexico-Thin envelope. This one had me bummed, because I liked this school immensely. Perhaps they thought my personal statement was fake (I wrote about an experience at a Navajo reservation I had), but it wasn't...It was an important life experience for me. It just sucks though, because I liked their tribal law program and their Latin American studies. Oh well, it's their loss as well...

UPDATE-I withdrew from University of Buffalo, and decided law school is not for me right now...

You know, I'm not sure. They must have loved something about my application. The person that I had revise my personal statement thought it was great. I think that might have helped... a lot.

Good Luck!

Noticed that your profile is VERY similar to mine. Almost to a tee. Anyway, congrats on your acceptances and good luck!

Thanks for the info on Duquesne. I have no idea what in the world is taking them so long. I guess my LSAT is holding me up, but my admissions index is definitely in their range, so who knows. Anyway, good luck with the rest of your apps this cycle!

Stay Positive!

Hey, keep your head up. Temple isn't admitting anyone who is white that has an LSAT below 160. That's not your fault...its theres. I\\\'m very confident that you will get into Pittsburgh and I KNOW you will get into Buffalo. Good luck, and don\\\'t let Temple get you down.

Scapegoat
Tuesday, September 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

I think its funny when people make comments who do not have the balls to actually have a profile on this website. There are definitely a lot of self-righteous pricks out there. I stand by my comments and am not hiding under anonymous names

Some Points to Ponder
Friday, January 06 2006 at 07:00 PM

Scapegoat (if you even read this), What I am saying is not entirely guided by emotion. Of course they will accept SOME; the question is how many in proportion to everyone else. I have talked to a student who goes to Temple this year, and he said that he does not know anyone below a 159 there (I'm assuming he meant personally). Add the fact that when I visited Temple, I received the same vibe (that LSATS reigned supreme), and I think I have good reason to be somewhat jaded. Also, I have a question with the LSAT "percentiles." Have you ever seen the numbers of each person they accept on the LSAC website.? I did the calculation, and they only accepted 65 people TOTAL with a 154 or below. So you are probably right with the 160 comment, and I concede that. But again...If you can explain to me why law schools over-emphasize a test which can account for only 16% of the variance in first-year law students' grades, please do tell. For some reason, I doubt one can. Then again, since it was an anonymous poster, you probably won't respond to this. As for the LSAT comment, that was a low-blow, but again, you're anonymous (no offense). Also, do not think I am against affirmative action (in fact, I have written articles for it). What disillusions me is that Temple has a s.p.A.C.E. admission program (where they state that they overlook the LSAT), and they list the qualities on the website. I possessed most of those qualities, save a few. Guess what they are. So please, there are always two sides to the story. I do admit that I could be dead-wrong (in fact, I thought this before you posted); however, I will always wonder why I did not get accepted. Oh well, life goes on! Take it easy, and thanks for the input. Take it easy.

Apology Accepted!
Friday, January 06 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hey, Thanks for the apology; it is received wholeheartedly. In fact, even IF (and I do not think this is true necessarily) that someone of another race or ethnicity took my spot, I do not dislike that person (or the school for that matter).. I cannot blame someone for taking advantage of something that the admissions committee prizes. But the school should make it known if that is how they want their composition to be at their school (there are legal issues, butfor the sake of argument I am assuming they are not important). . .It is not any skin off my back if they want a school like that. It is frustrating, however, for someone who really isn't doing it for the money to be turned down at schools that seem to place a high value on social service. Also, I have learned that diversity isn't solely about race and/or diversity (after all, they're social constructs). It is about asserting the uniqueness of each individual, and how each person contributes in a special way to diversity. It is ironic how few men and women can truly see that in our society (or any for that matter) unfortunately. Maybe I am wrong, but I got that vibe. Again, thanks for your input, and your apology is sincerely accepted! Take care.

again for the discussion. Do not think you offended me; in fact, I am glad to see another viewpoint :0) You bring up good points, and I have thought the same things myself; alas, it is still disheartening. It's no big deal, because I'll do well at another school if I so choose (I'm not saying that as arrogance, but as self-confidence). Thanks for the encouragement, and if you ever have more input, feel free to add it! Take care.

Villanova?

Congrats on the acceptances. Have you thought about Villanova? Its a great school, and you would probably get in with your numbers. A bit pricey though. By the way, I go to marywood too.
