Additional info & updates

The University of Miami is my top choice of law schools (hopefully with some scholarship money) unless I get into a top 20. Hopefully my soft factors, a very strong personal statement and a lot of luck might get me into one. I probably applied to too many schools, but its surprisingly easy to get a fee waiver.

1-19-10 Accepted to American by fed ex, hand written letter.

1-25-10 Accepted to University of Miami by e-mail (strange). You check your account online the decision is dispayed. Very Happy. Unless I get into a top 15 this is where I'm going. Waiting for Scholarship Money info.

2-2-10 Waitlisted at DePaul. Not sure why. Actual numbers are above median, stellar extracurriculars, great work experience, very good personal statement and I'm a minority candidate. Just a back up anyways, but its strange how you can get into harder schools and not some easier ones. Weird process.

2-6-10 Heard that UM has run low on scholarship money so is holding out on giving any others for a while. This info is from the admissions office. Will be huge part of decision factor.

2-18-10 Accepted to Tulane Law School. Notified by e-mail and online status check. Probably won't enroll unless I decide on doing maritime law soon.

2-09-10 Status check for Pepperdine, Santa Clara, and Boston College says decision rendered. Still waiting on letter after a week and a half.

2-20-10 Placed on the wait list at George Washington U. Small envelope. Really hoping to get in here. Please withdraw if you do not plan on attending so I can possibly get your space.

2-22-10 Accepted into Santa Clara Law School via e-mail. I think think that I was actually suppose to receive my acceptance letter through the mail but it took so long to get from Cali to London that they started sending me Admitted Students Day info before I actually received it. Anyways, nice back up.

2-25-10 Received 60K scholarship for Tulane over 3 years. Also 14K scholarship for Santa Clara. Both by mail. This makes Tulane a very attractive option.

2-26-10 Received tease e-mail from U Miami saying that it is going to award me a scholarship but they didn't tell me how much.

2-27-10 Rejected at Columbia University. No surprise.

2-27-10 Wait listed at Pepperdine.

2-27-10 Wait listed at Boston College Law.

3-12-10 Accepted at Temple and Cardozo Law. Waitlisted at Fordam. I am getting really annoyed with all these waitlists. No one can seem to make up there minds about me lol. I guess its a matter of trying to weigh really strong soft factors with decent hard ones.

3-15-10 So I send Stanford Law an e-mail to update some personal info, and they respond that my file is not complete bc they didn't receive my deans recommendation letter even though it was sent 3 months ago. Turns out they have it and just didn't update my file, so my app has just been sitting there since Dec. without even being submitted for review. My chances of getting in were'nt great but obviously they are greatly reduced now. They didn't offer me much sympathy or recourse. Basically the message was, oops you're screwed...too bad. If I had a legit chance I would have been pretty upset.

3-18-10 Just found out that I was wait listed at Emory. These wait lists are getting very annoying, but I am pretty excited about not getting rejected there. Anyone else out there getting as many wait lists as me?

3-18-10 Notified by mail that I was wait listed at UF. Kind of surprised since I have major legacy there. Didn't want to go anyways so it's ok. I think I will withdraw.

3-18-10 Rejected by U Penn, small envelope. No surprise.

3-23-10 Rejected at UC Hastings by mail, small envelope. Thought I would at least get a waitlist on this one actually.

3-29-10 Rejected by U Conn via mail. No clue why. Well within their numbers range plus URM. Not one of my top choices anyways.

3-30-10 Rejected by Harvard via E-mail. Not surprise there.

3-30-10 Accepted into Notre Dame via e-mail, with a 50% scholarship renewable over 3 years. Pretty excited about this one. A T20 school with money is pretty tempting, I just don't want to live in South Bend, Indiana. Any suggestions about the perception and life at this law school would be appreciated.

04-01-10 Rejected from UCLA as expected. Had to call to get decision, letter never arrived. And the list is dwindling.

04-01-10 In at Villanova. Notified by e-mail. Letter must have been lost in the mail.

04-05-10 Waitlisted at Penn State. Notified by E-mail. Not interested.

04-20-10 Rejected from Stanford of course. If I was actually a contender I would be mad since they just completed my app a couple of weeks ago, bc they thought they didn't have a doc. they actually received months ago.

04/26/10 Wait listed at UNC. Notified by e-mail.

05/06/10 Rejected from USC. All my decisions are in...now I just play the waiting game for the waitlists.

06/04/2010 Was waitlisted at Fordham. Now rejected.

06/16/10 Waitlisted at Emory. Now Rejected

07/31/10 I completed the Interview with Cornell Law School. It went as well as it could go but from the sound of things it just seems that there will be no movement on the Cornell List this year. They are overbooked as it is. Too bad.

08/10/10 I was wait listed at Penn State and withdrew but ironically the just offered me a spot. Of coursed I declined, so good luck to anyone else on the wait list at Penn State thats one spot open.

08/10/10 So I think I am at the point that I know where I am going. I'm still waiting on Cornell to call me off of the wait list in my heart but I know thats unlikely. Looks like I will be attending Notre Dame Law School with about 60% in scholarship funding in total. I'm pretty happy with that.

Thanks for the comment, I certainly am going to have some tricky decisions to make when I finally hear back from everyone! I think that you should definitely apply wherever you want in spite of what people say. NYU gave me a short turnaround and accepted me. I do have some cool softs, but then again so do you (wink). I wish you the best of luck with your cycle.

Thanks!

Thanks for the comment. I tried to be as helpful as possible. Looks like you're having a great cycle. Waitlists can be annoying, but still good to know that such great schools are seriously considering your application - you deserve it. Now for the hard part - choosing a school!

Notre Dame has the absolutely strongest alumni network I have ever seen so geographically anything is possible...I also believe that the Brand is something that stands on its own...I know ND you know ND the loser hanging on the corner knows ND and the "I valet everywhere to show off my car" guys hanging out at all the country clubs know ND so I think with a little effort nothing is untouchable

You'd be remiss to take Miami over ND. ND is so close to the big city (Chicago) and has such a loyalty for their graduates -it's beyond compare. ND's campus looks much more like an Ivy-league school than the other choices and the student body is fanatically proud of their institution -priceless. The previous post describes ND very well also. The reason ND isn't #1 in law schools is actually pretty simple - Catholic. There are a number of ardent athiests and anti-ND football people out there that will forever push their rankings down. However, you'll find as much affection and open doors with ND alumni as you would with Harvard or Yale. They'll always be a tier-1 school beloved by millions from blue collar to white collar.

Thanks.

I'm actually hoping to be able to beat this UVA waitlist and get in, really like it there. Yourself?
