Additional info & updates

12/18/09- So I'm waiting on my DePaul Letter that was mailed on 12/16/09 and get a call yesterday from the Dean at Valpo. After phone tag, I get to chat with her and she tells me I'm in with a scholly. Not too keen on Valpo, but would like to see what they are offering. I'm a sucker for anything free (!), particularly an expensive legal education. I knew I'd need a really high LSAT with my low GPA and was pretty disappointed with my score and thought I would be rejected everywhere. I'm glad to have some choices. I'm hoping that the fact that I am an older, mature, non-traditional applicant will shine through my PS and convince some schools to, as ABBA so aptly put it, "take a chance on me."

Got home and the packet was in the mail waiting for me- Full ride at Valpo! Very tempting...But why is my DePaul letter not here yet? Arghhhh....and what about Loyola and Chicago-Kent? When will you take me out of my waiting agony and make a decision!

12/19/09- WAITLISTED at DePaul! So bummed out. This doesn't bode well at all for my hopes of attending Chicago-Kent or Loyola. Why haven't they made a decision yet? I can't stand all this waiting!

01/16/09- Another waitlist. So disillusioned! Thought I had a real chance at some of these second tier schools with my PS and some of my softs, but I guess it's all about the numbers. Makes you wonder why they bother making you jump through all those hoops when it all comes down to numbers! I refuse to let myself be defined by two little numbers. I know this what Law school is all about, the grades, but can't help but think how ridiculous it all is...OK, I'm just bitter! LOL

03/05/10- Oh, Northwestern. We could've been sooo good together. You'll always be the one that got away...

03/10/10- Well, it's official. The Ivy League hates me. Don't worry, the feeling is mutual. Never really thought I had much chance at NU or U of C. BUT, it feels so good to be done!

Yeah, I was pretty surprised myself. The letter basically stated that I had the credentials but since so many were applying, they wanted to wait. They said I should hopefully receive an acceptance in a few weeks. I've seen people having no trouble at DePaul with numbers lower than mine so hopefully you won't have a problem either. I don't know where my top realistic choice is, but I would maybe faint if I were accepted to Notre Dame, UNC, Wake, or Fordham, lol.

Yeah, I was surprised about DePaul too. I was hoping for at least a waitlist! I'm not sure about John Marshall, but I love the idea of living in Chicago! Plus, I like that they offered money and have a few different study abroad options. I might go out to their open house and look around. Have you visited? Best of luck with DePaul. Who knows? Maybe they hated my letter or something. I hope you fare better!

I think it's probably yield protect. I'd contact them, email them an LOCI,and you should probably get off the waitlist.

Well congrats on your cycle so far. As far as my "softs" go, I have about 8 years full time professional work experience. Worked 40 plus hour weeks in undergrad, have solid recommendations from professors and vice provost (who also is my current boss) and graduated from U of M. I worked on my personal statement for about 8 months, so to me it seemed pretty air tight. I also applied E.D. to kent so maybe thats why a few of us have heard back already. Hope this helps. Good luck on the rest of your cycle

Thanks! I'm not too worried about it, honestly. Things have a way of working themselves out.

No I never did. I had a big increasing trend so I think that probably spoke for its self. Best of luck you you!

Thank you for your comment, it was really nice. Ya in a way it's good to to see people write that stuff because it's a reminder to not get too comfortable, because there are people out there who will smile in your face and "anonymously" want you to fail because of their own insecurities. So it's good to keep an eye out for them. I heard the same comments about me when it came to undergrad admissions as well. Schools do in fact want a diverse class, but it comes down to a lot more than race. Congrats on your acceptances as well! Now either you are from Chicago, or you just really like the city. :) I'm kind of leaning on staying here also. I luv Chi! :) Thanks again!
