-Intern at the Public Defender

Additional info & updates

1/25 - I just found out about this site a couple days ago, and good lord it's like crack for pre-law kids. At first, I thought I'd be content with just looking around....then I decided I'd just make a profile, and before I knew it, I was adding in all of my schools, clicking on users like a maniac, and now writing this diatribe. It's horrible, I tell you. I think what really gets me is a) all the amazingly intelligent people on this thing b) relief that people with my numbers are getting into some amazing schools c) let's face it, e-voyeurism.

On a small side note...it is likely a combination of being new to this site and thus its terminology and my immaturity, but to me, something sounds fundamentally wrong with the statements, "I'll be watching your cycle closely" and "Please just tell me your softs."

Let me know if you have any questions...I'll likely be cracking out on this site, haha.

Updates :)

1/15 - Acceptance to Boalt! Checked my e-mail in the middle of the night...was in complete and utter shock. I so desperately wanted the phone call from Ed Tom, but I obviously have no room to complain. My very first acceptance was to my #2 school!

1/16 - Letter from Georgetown. I was absolutely terrified since it was a small envelope, but calmed down when the first word was, "Congratulations!" I also dug the handwritten note...and surprised that the law school w/ the most apps would take the time to do that.

1/21 - Letter from NYU saying I had my social security number wrong on the application. Hopefully whoever sorts that stuff out has NO communication with the rest of the admissions committee. Lame.

2/4 - Call from Boston University! At this point, I doubt I'd attend, but it's still a great school and I really wanted at least one phone call, so that made me feel great.

2/18 - I perhaps should not have withdrawn from BU so soon. I got a 45K scholarship a week after I declined. Maybe a practical joke?

2/20 - UT Austin Acceptance! I hope I'm not the only one that rituatlistically clicks on those status checkers every day. I also hope that they have a program like Boalt's that pays for people to fly out and see the place...the school has a higher place in my heart than in the "rankings"...not that it does badly there, either.

2/26 - If schools haven't let me know by now, should I assume it's a no? All the financial aid stuff is due in about 3 days...

3/4 - All was quiet on the Western Front for awhile...and then, like the other 1000 people, I was waitlisted for UVA. They picked well in my case though...while it's a great school, the fee waiver was my impetus for applying. Hopefully my withdrawal puts someone who wants it more higher on the list they say they don't have!

3/30 - after more than 3 months of waiting....waitlisted at duke....I guess this means I should have written the Why Duke. I guess they picked well on this one, too...since I'd mentally counted this one out at this point.

Hey katie, I'm in no rush at all... in fact I am not even sure even with my acceptances that I will go to school this year. I might take some time to just bum around. I actually really enjoy school and I am anxious to study law from an academic perspective. As for the age, well I was bored in high school and so college sounded like more fun. Finished college early because I foolishly enrolled in a private school that costs far too much money. But I am certainly enjoying my time off, I am volunteering as a grant writer and counselor for a community based health clinic, I am traveling to rural mexico for a language immersion course while providing education to rural/despondent hiv+ persons, and I am traveling like a fiend. That being said, I may take a year to go to south america or europe to just bum around... Congrats on Berkeley, and good luck on NYU, either way you are in incredible shape!!! keep in touch now that you know my softs ;)
