Extra Curricular Information

05/16/07 Game over: UW Madison Class of 2010. I would've loved to go to Minnesota, but it's not feasible with my family commitments. So I came back to the school that I originally was aiming for, after exhausting all other options. I am not going to dwell on what I could've done better in the admissions process, I am moving on to setting up support network for my children so I can succeed and become the best law student I can be. Best of luck to everyone still waitlisted, and to those in future admission cycles.

07/08/2007 Game NOT over. I changed my mind. I am going to University of Minnesota. Packing up my house and moving. UMN worth that gamble.

Additional info & updates

Fee waivers - I received an LSAC fee waiver which most schools will accept. A few sent me their own.

12/4/06 First applications went out today.
12/13 Complete at Baylor via email.
12/14 IU Bloomington, Marquette - "received" via postcard.
12/18 Harvard - "received" via email.
12/20 Marquette - "complete" via email.
12/21 UW - "complete" via email.
12/22 Cardozo - "complete" via email.
1/2 Interview at Northwestern.
1/2 Complete at IU Bloomington via phone call
1/6 Accepted at Marquette. Thin white envelope, with a hand written note from Dean Kearney at the bottom and a promise of "more details to follow".
1/10 Notre Dame - "received" via email. If it is incomplete, they will notify me within four weeks.
1/11 Complete at Harvard via email.
1/16 Complete at Kent via email.

1/16 Priority Mail envelope from IU Bloomington, Merit Scholarship of $25,500 to be divided evenly over three years. Which means one year almost free and the rest are $28,398 per year as an out of state resident. Tuition cost for three years - $60,000.

01/17 Complete at UVA via email/online status checker.

01/18 DePaul sent me a wonderful package with a personalized letter about their IP program and a fee waiver. I do have the background for IP, and their program is in top 10 of the nation, despite the school ranking. So I sent them an application, hoping for a sizable scholarship.

01/18 Complete at NULS via online status checker
01/19 Complete at Fordham via online status checker

01/20 White envelope from Marquette with a $5,000 per year scholarship, making total tuition cost about $70,000. Even if UW Madison turns me down, I am still better off going to IU-B. That means Marquette will be getting my very first withdrawal letter this week.

1/24 U of Chicago, Columbia - "complete" via email

02/02/07 Duke, UMN - "complete" via email

02/05/07 Nice big envelope from Baylor with acceptance letter and a scholarship for half tuition. Surprising, because their online status checker says no decision has been made on my file. With the scholarship, total cost of tuition would be $45,000, cheapest so far, and with -35F windchill in WI right now, Texas is looking pretty darn good.

02/06/07 Georgetown - complete via online status check.
02/07/07 Boalt Hall - complete via email.
02/09/07 Penn Law - complete via email.
02/13/07 Cornell, Yale - complete via email.

02/18/07 DePaul accepted with $15K/year scholarship, phone call from the professor.

02/24/07 Notre Dame - waitlisted via snailmail, with an invitation to send more info.

02/26/07 Columbia - Rejected, small ivory envelope. I can't even work up the disappointment. I kind of figured I would be, judging by how many problems I had with them just getting my application to "completed" status. Also, UVA and U of MI online status checkers are now on "decision".

02/28/07 FINALLY, the letter I've been waiting for - MADISON! YES! I AM GOING TO LAW SCHOOL NEXT YEAR! I don't even care that Michigan said no.

03/01/07 UVa - rejected via snail mail, cream colored envelope.

03/08/07 UMN - deferred via snail mail, small envelope. Who cares, while they are deferring, I'll be attending Madison.

03/10/07 Harvard, UC Berkeley - rejected via snail mail.

03/14/07 UMN - accepted, with a scholarship, via a phone call. Huh?! Didn't you just deffer me, not even a week ago? Letter to follow. With a scholarship and tuition reciprocity, the tuition would be comparable to UW, with a higher ranked school, not to mention stronger IP and International law programs. They are seriously in the running right now, and it makes me happy to have such good choices.

03/16/07 Fordham - waitlisted via online status checker.

3/16/07 Withdrawn from Fordham, Chicago Kent, Marquette, IUB, GW, Notre Dame, Baylor, DePaul

03/19/07 U of Chicago - rejected, snail mail. This one stung a bit, I was secretly hoping for at least an evaluation interview.

03/20/07 Georgetown status changed to decision. I look forward to getting another rejection letter in the mail by the end of the week.

03/24/07 Georgetown - rejected. Called it! In other news, I had a fantastic ASW visit at UMN, and wow, is it ever going to be a difficult call. I am in love with Minneapolis, UMN, students, professors... They were certainly more organized than UW and made a better impression. Very nice. I am going to be doing some serious research into moving up there in the next two weeks.

03/26/07 Complete at Stanford via email. I am guessing next week is when I get their rejection? I can't help it but develop a morbid sense of humor by this point.

NULS - "on hold" via email. Will be writing more letters....

03/31/07 Yale - rejection in a cream colored envelope, return address on the back. Even knowing that I had better chance of going to Mars, I am still disappointed.

04/05/07 Called NYU even though they say not to, because I haven't heard a peep and it's been killing me. They were very nice. Told me that they send a complete letter back in February (which never reached me, apparently), and that the decision was mailed yesterday. I am betting it's a ding, but at least I will have one less reason to stalk the mailman now.

04/12/07 I was upset at NYU rejection momentarily, but then Minnesota called with an increased scholarship offer. Fabulous! Went from $5,000 per year to $8,000. I called Madison asking them about their scholarship process, they are "a little behind" but still working on it.

04/27/07 Finally got my rejection letter from Stanford. For some odd reason, my mother wanted to see it! Not Yale, Harvard, or a does other rejection letters I received. No, she was impressed by a *rejection* letter from Stanford. Must be the logic of parents I will never understand despite being a parent myself.

05/01/07 Cornell Rejection. Took them long enough!

05/04/07 Penn Law rejection. Looks like I have to make up my mind between UW and UMN. And possibly NULS, if I ever get off their waiting list.

05/16/07 Checked NULS status even though there was no new email or any other indication they updated. Nothing looked new on the webpage, either, but when I opened up the decision letter, it changed to "We downsized our waitlist and you are not on it anymore" variety.

I hope you do well with the admissions process. I'm gunning for UW as well, unless I make it into Northwestern (even then I've got to consider the extra expense and difficulty of moving). Out of curiosity, is there a reason you've decided not to include Minnesota?

I am a big splitter, but I've gotten a bit paranoid that there aren't all that many people with numbers like mine, so I've taken down my stats 'till I hear something from a few schools. I have been to Marquette on several occasions (I went to HS near there) and while the campus itself isn't all that great, I do like Milwuakee's atmosphere. Honestly, I'll just be happy to be going to school and learning.

Congrats on MN. I am so jealous, that is my first choice. If you dont mind me asking, what were some of your numbers? I am only curious because we have some simmilar WLs (GW and Notre Dame) and i am trying to judge my chances. Fell free to e-mail me if you would prefer, and congrats again! MN is very exciting!

Yes, I got your e-mail, it was very helpful. Thankyou. I still have not heard from UMN but every day I hope there is a phone call. If I dont get in there, and assuming the GW, Notre Dame and Vandy WL dont work out, im trying to decide what my next best option is. Im leaning towards either Wisconsin or Washington, but Im not sure which. So do you think you will be attending MN after the visit?

Condrats on MN. While I would be sad to lose you as a classmate, I can understand the appeal of the Twin Cities. I lived there for five years, and loved the area. Took a couple of classes at the U, so I am generally familiar with the school, too. I you would like to chat about life in the north country, drop me an email.

I am all but set on UMN, but I am curious about GULC. I did indeed go to an admitted student, and it was a lot of fun. I thought they put forth a very professional presentation.

Hahaha, a gunner already? I was at the March one, but since I was already pretty much set on it I didn't have too many questions. As for NULS vs GULC I was thinking I at least had a shot at PT in DC, and I was interested in antitrust stuff, which generally means D.C.. I do have the work experience, but if I wasn't doing antitrust I wanted to be close to home in Minnesota.
