12/08/06 - Deferral at Minnesota, not a big surprise but I am still in the running.
01/25/07 - Acceptance email from Iowa, feels great to get that first one done.
01/30/07 - Acceptance packet from William Mitchell, wow that was fast.
02/08/07 - Acceptance letter from Wisconsin, that wasn't fast, but it was nice.
02/15/07 - After two days of telephone tag I found out that I am in PT at George Mason, very cool.
02/21/07 - A few weeks after sending in my letter of continued interest I got a great phone call from Minnesota.
03/08/07 - Sent in my withdrawal form for William Mitchell.
03/26/07 - Sent in withdrawal notices to George Mason and Wisconsin today. I finally checked my Georgetown status and it says I am complete, cool. I was probably complete a while ago, but I hadn't checked lately,
03/29/07 - Sent in my withdrawal notice for Iowa.
04/26/07 - WL (non-priority) at GULC, not a surprise, but we will see what happens.

What stopped you from going last year?

Was there any reason in particular that stopped you from going last year?

Pepperdine

I live in Los Angeles, CA and Pepperdine is in Malibu. Not a bad place to spend 3 years! Aside from the astetics and amazing campus, the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution is a really amazing program and very highly respected in Los Angeles. I worked in Dispute Resolution - Arbitration and Mediation Services for a few years and took an interest in this type of law. To be honest, I don't know all that much about Roger Williams, but just figured I would send an app to the school to see what happens.

2006/07 Cycle

I actually applied two years ago. I was on the priority waitlist at Wisconsin and got accepted at Kent and DePaul. At the time I wanted to go to Wisconsin so when I didnt end up getting in I decided to take a couple more years off. I applied really late in the process and as I now know, applications were at an all time high the year I applied. Im hoping that getting my apps in early, casting a wider net and a decrease in total apps will make a difference this time around. Looking at your list of schools, I think you are going to have a very successful cycle.

Hello, fello UMN deferree. Sorry about the deferral. It looks like you were really close to an acceptance last year. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! As for your other schools, I'd say you have a fairly decent shot at UW-Madison based on numbers alone. Good luck to you on all your applications! Maybe I'll see you as a student at UMN Law next year. We could form a deferral success club ;)

Regarding your question on UMN, I actually did not do anything to follow up with them after I received the deferral letter in December. Good luck with your apps & hope this helps!

UMN and Madison

It looks like Madison and UMN are your top choices (at least from your comments you have been getting). Those are my top 2 choices too. Would you prefer UMN because it is better ranked over Madison which would probably be a nicer experiance? We are applying to lots of the same schools with simmilar numbers, so good luck!!! Molly

Congrats!

It feels good to have your first acceptance, doesn't it? Congratulations! Iowa is a great school.

Iowa

Congratulations on your acceptances. I was very happy to get a quick turnaround from Iowa, now if only the other schools would be as quick. Good luck with the rest of your cycle. Is Minnesota your top choice?

If you dont mind me asking, did you get any scholarships at William Mitchell??? Are you also from MN or did you just go to school there? I wish UMN would hurry up and make some decisions about the people they deferred.....

I'd really like to have the option of WUSTL so I could stay near home, but right now I feel like money and other factors could change my mind.

selection bias

I'm fairly sure that this site overrepresents overacheivers - competitive types who (as a consequence) have good grades, study hard, etc. Just to be sure, look at the number of applications for harvard versus the number of applications for a less prestigious school. At least that's my guess.

Very likely, yes. It's down to UW, if they offer me substantial scholarship, or NULS if I can get off their waitlist AND get a good finaid package, because they are not cheap. So I am proceeding with arrangements to go to UMN at this point. And you? Still waiting on Georgetown? Did you go to their admitted students weekend? I have, and I loved the school, I think it's a good fit for me. Loved Twin Cities, too.

UMN ASW?
Sunday, December 03 2006 at 07:00 PM

Out of curiosity, which one did you go to? March or April? I was at March ASW, the blonde girl in front row with my hand up for the entire duration of mock class... :) Don't hate me. Please. I really am nice. You with UMN and GULC sound exactly like me with UMN and NULS. Why didn't you apply at Northwestern, btw? You have the work experience, right?

Yeah, definitely. The draw of instate tuition goes a long way. Besides, now i can get student hockey tickets. So much for my deposit. You going to the U for sure?

UW

Thank you, but I know that UMN is better and everything else being equal, I would've gone there in a heartbeat. Good luck to you, too, enjoy the school and the Cities.

Thanks

Thanks for the congratulations. I am really excited to start at MN. I just got into my apartment and so far am loving everything about the area. Are you still holding out for GWLC or are you a sure thing at MN?
