Additional info & updates

*GPA freshman year 1.7, GPA senior year 3.5. very strong upward grade trend. Within major I had a 3.45 GPA.

Had a real bad first year of school. Father had a good year of work which cost us our low-income housing. Very shortly after he lost his job because of Alzheimer's . We downsized, six now shared a two bedroom as housing expenses nearly doubled.

Depression set in Freshman year, grades were impacted severely. Learned to cope with familial issues in my second year. Nevertheless, I worked two jobs to help alleviate financial burden at home and help support myself (up to forty hours at times).

Changed majors to Phil. Law/Society and was very successful. In 2007 I dealt with the disappearance of my father, who has not been seen since. I did not let depression or guilt get the better of me. Continued to excel academically earning student of distinction, president list, deans list and even a fellowship.

Both of my parents are native Spanish speakers and did not go beyond a 3rd grade education. Family lives below the poverty line.

On the WL for Hastings again...Can I just get a break!?!?!?

02/28/12
Decision rendered at Santa Clara. No deposit amounts... : (...

02/23/12
Rejected from UCLA. On the WL again for Cardozo...

02/10/12
Very bummed about American. I got on the WL last year...guess every cycle is different.

01/12/12
UCI sent me the small envelope. Sigh...

07/06/11
I got the "are you still interested..." email from UC Hastings yesterday. My joy was quickly subdued when I found out many people on the WL were notified as well. For some, this is their second time receiving it. It is my hope that it is a positive sign, but I cannot continue to ride this emotional roller coaster and expect to retain my sanity much longer.

6/20/11
Well, it appears this will not be the cycle for me. I need closure and the wait is killing me. I do not know how much longer I can take this.

06/11/11
Hoping for a miracle at this point.

05/28/11
Began P90x 3 weeks ago. Decided to take care of what I can and leave what is out of my hands to the powers that be. Sending another round of LOCI to my remaining schools. I can't give up.

05/06/11
Its going to be a long summer...I feel like giving up. But how can I? I have gotten through worse. I just need some inspiration; good news would be helpful as well.

04/27/11
Well, it seems it is going to be a long cycle for me. Wait-listed at 4 (anyone of which would get an immediate deposit if I were admitted) and too many rejections to count. Davis is still a possibility but a loooong shot. I just hope something goes my way. Staying positive is not an easy thing.

Just wanted to wish you the best of luck with the rest of your application cycle. Given your situation and all you've overcome, I'm very surprised you've had so many rejects-it seems if anyone should have extenuating circumstances taken into account it should be you. Best wishes and good luck!

Thanks! I try to pause and reflect upon the last few years and tell myself that I should not let things get me down. Who knows, the cycle is not over just yet; I may get the surprise I have been looking for.

Good luck on your last three waitlists. Did you consider taking the LSAT again? If you received anywhere in the 160s, as a URM with a 3.0, you'd have considerably better odds of acceptance at a large number of schools. Might even get significant scholarships and/or grants. Well - hope things turn out well for you.

Good Luck...

I wish you the very, very best. Don't give up hope. You are still young, even next year is an option for you.

The waitlist is tough. I'm wondering if it will go into August...

Good luck with this cycle! Im sure you'll get into the school of your choice! We have similar numbers but Im just curious are you considering Chapman, Southwestern or UCI at all? Also what is your first choice law school?

UCI

Sorry to hear :( Did you apply early January? I'm afraid to check my mail now.

Same thing happened to me! At least the UCI app was free. No bad news in the mail, so I'm glad. Did Davis waitlist you last year?

Schools

Why not apply to more schools? I'm seriously hoping Cardozo takes you. Loyola, Davis and Hastings are totally lagging.

Same boat, same day for UC Hastings. Did you apply LEOP?

I think most of these schools should be reach schools with your numbers. If you get completely shut out, try retaking the LSAT and improve your score. Even if you cannot improve your score, I'd recommend you to apply next year to many more schools in the ranks between 50-100 and perhaps some 3rd tier schools. The choice of schools shown here are a stretch with the numbers you present.

Retake LSAT
Tuesday, February 14 2012 at 07:00 PM

Hey man, so how did the cycle go? It's pretty much over now isn't it? Well if you did badly, here's the one thing I can tell you: retake the LSAT! Look at my profile. My GPA is lower than yours but my LSAT is much higher than yours. You'll see the difference in results regarding admissions if you improve your LSAT into the 160's. I have to admit that my results are not making me happy and I'll try the admissions process again next year, but with a new and improved LSAT! I am hoping for an acceptance in the 20's or better (granted IU-Bloomington, one of the schools that admitted me, is in the 20's, but their job placement isn't as good as other schools in the 20's or 30's). Feel free to e-mail me or post in my profile for anything.
