This is the new 2009 rankings and to be honest with you, it is disturbing because it is such a huge jump, but I wouldn't because of just that decide on not attending UB. It is a great school, I know it will revive itself.
I disagree with Cromwell on choosing Syracuse over Buffalo. There are certainly many UB grads who work in NYC and in other parts of the country. I will choose UB over Syracuse any day because they rank the same now at least, and UB is much cheaper especially for you as a NY State resident. To be honest, I wouldn't suggest spending that much money on a tier 3 school such as Syracuse.
First, congrats on your results so far. 3 for 3 and Boston College. Very nice. :) On Buffalo v. Syracuse, Cletus and Rutgers/Name Required (who I strongly suspect is tortguy) all make good points. Cletus is absolutely correct in that Syracuse places better nationally (and outside of its city) than Buffalo and it's alumni also tend to reach higher positions. If you want to see for yourself, go to martindale.com, click "advanced search" on the lawyer locator, and scroll to the bottom to search by school attended. From there, the sidebar on the resulting search page will give you more information than you could possibly want. But, on the other side, Rutgers and Name Req. are correct in that, without some sort of scholarship, Syracuse is pretty expensive and may not be worth it. Even if it does place better, that extra ~$30k/year is a big price to pay for a school that's maybe only marginally better and probably doesn't offer much better immediate employment prospects. Actually, I'd be surprised if you didn't get a scholarship to Syracuse with your numbers. Name Req. seems upset that his school plummeted over 20 spots in one year and probably would have fallen into Tier 3 if not for USNWR having some sort of soul, so I'd take everything he said with a large grain of salt. And basing arguments around a school's ranking is retarded anyway. By changing their formula as much as they do, USNWR is functionally saying that their rankings are inherently flawed, and I think a lot of people are starting to realize that. Who cares if your school is T1 or T4. If it works for you, it works for you. But, it doesn't matter at all anyway since you're in at Boston College. Obviously, that's the correct choice here, assuming that's where you want to be. Wherever you end up, I'm sure that you'll make a good decision and I wish you the best of luck. Again, congrats on all of your success.

I don't know where you got the rankings that you referred to from, but according to the U.S News and World Report, UB is still number 77. Hope this helps!
