Additional info & updates

Took the Oct 2012 LSAT (10/06/2012) - waiting on the score so I can start posting some applications.
the LSAT -
1) Didn't get time to prepare well for exam, I was busy from Aug till Oct, with my wedding and work. :-)
2) My PTings ranged all over [166 to 172]

10/31/2012
Still waiting on that LSAT score, the longer I wait the worse I think I did.. Finished my Personal Statement...

11/01
LSAT in - not what I was hoping..

But lets check Law School Predictor

Consider AT/Below
------------------------------
Georgetown (39%) (deferred) (priority wait list)
George Washington (53%) (wait listed)
Fordham (62%) (admitted) $$ 20k

Strong Consider :-)
------------------------------
George Mason (66%) (admitted) $$ 40k top 1/3
Maryland (72%) (Admitted) $$ 18k

Admit (:-D
------------------------------
American (85%) (Admitted) $$20k
Santa Clara (95%) (Admitted) $$20k
Cardozo-Yeshiva (86%) (admitted) $$120k
Houston (89%) (admitted) $$full ride
Michigan State (>95%) (admitted) $$full ride

* all scholarships are for 4 years (part-time)

Questions

1) should I apply non-traditional? Not sure if applying PT (part-time) implies that..

01/17
Looking forward to hearing anything from Houstin, GW, and GT. It looks like GW did a bunch of admits, rejects and wait lists last week. However I haven't heard anything. I hope I have a chance at GW, it's a great IP school.

1/25
Houston non resident scholarship which provides in state tuition and 15k per year scholarship. Wow

1/30
GW wait listed. A tear or two was shed from my eyes. I constantly think about my LSAT score, how in the hell did I miss so many in the first through 15 on LR. No one does, they are usually very easy. I guess being cold and anxious is bad for testing.

3/16
Was wait listed at GT on feb 16th
Santa Clara selected my application for possible full ride, however I didn't respond to the interview
Went in to Maryland for scholarship interview in feb still waiting for any info.

4/1
Gmu increased $$ to 40k have to remain in top 1/3.

4/15. This month has been hard. I withdrew from schools. Making my choice based on location. I was very impressed with both Houston and Fordham. Houston full ride would have been amazing upong graduation. My prayers are now focused on some additional options from GT and GW.

04/23 email from GT still on priority waitlist. And email from GW that I am still on waitlist. I will wait them out. So happy to be considered by both with my lack luster gpa and LSAT.

It seems we have similar numbers! My LSAT PT's were right around yours, but I seem to have screwed up on my actual test and scored toward the low end of my scale. Better luck to you! And I know, I may have overshot with the amount of applications, but $2,000 today could grant me a free $150,000 somewhere along the road. I'm considering it an investment, but that's probably just dumb. Also, you may want to consider throwing an application over to University of New Hampshire (Franklin Pierce). It's often regarded as the best IP program in the country. Best of luck and I'll be keeping an eye on your cycle!

I think you are smart to invest 2k for partial or full rides! Your numbers are solid, wish I had similar GPA. I have met several graduates from FP that practice IP. They really enjoyed that school. I wish they had a PT program. I really want to maintain a job while I attend school.

Thanks!

Thanks for the congrats :) No, I'm not applying to any UCs. I've been in California for 16 years now and my partner and I are ready to get back to the mid-Atlantic area or the South, where our families are.

G Luck!

You've got a great engineering GPA! Schools will bump that up in consideration. Great to see another science major - looks like you're heading in the right place for IP law. Best of luck!

Thanks and Best of Luck!

Thanks for the words of encouragement--I think you'll do great this cycle.

thanks!

thanks for the congrats as well. I thought about UMD PT but am not sure if I want to stay in the DC area (currently work here now). anyways, good luck with your cycle!

Thanks!

Looking forward to hearing from Cardozo soon. And yeah, I'm very excited about Wake! Congrats on Fordham! I got stuck with a WL there.

Via Email! Good luck with the rest of your cycle

Thanks for your comment! George Washington was my top (realistic) choice, so I'm really happy to have been accepted. Good luck on your cycle-- hopefully we'll both end up in DC in the fall.

Thanks! I wish you luck also. I applied ED to GW, and was switched to RD with the acceptance. I got the email yesterday around 6pm, I just wasn't checking my email thinking schools only operated during business hours. Because I was ED they had to give me some type of decision by the end of the month, so I'm not sure if you'd be on the same timeline. Congrats on some great acceptances !

Friday, January 18 2013 at 07:00 PM

hey pal, congrats on your successes. some great schools and some good scholarships. here's hoping for some good news for you from gw as well. all the best.

Sunday, October 07 2012 at 08:00 PM

It isn't east coast but it does have a solid IP program, NASA-JSC, and a solid job market in several engineering fields. I wish you the best at UH and GW. BTW, GM is a great school too. Congrats.

I hope you hear from GW soon! Similarly, I'm starting to think I may never hear from American, but unless they were to offer me a *really* nice financial aid package, GW would probably be the smarter choice anyhow based on employment stats. Is there a particular school or area you're leaning towards right now?

GWU decision
Saturday, January 12 2013 at 07:00 PM

Thanks! GWU emailed me the decision. There was a date change to my account on Friday the 25th and then on Monday the 28th it changed to "Decision Made." The email came about 30-45 minutes after that. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck with your cycle, from what I know engineering students rule at GWU!

NWU - Thanks!
Sunday, October 28 2012 at 08:00 PM

Thanks! I'm really excited about all of the acceptances. Not really surprised by any WL or Rejections, but I am certainly surprised by the $45K from UMich. My decision is going to be pretty much between UMich, NWU, Georgetown, Cornell, and USC at this point. Any advice would be appreciated!

Fordham
Sunday, October 28 2012 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, I did! Were you there? We should have met up and grabbed a coffee!

Fordham
Sunday, October 28 2012 at 08:00 PM

I was on the Ravens. Our lecturers were a couple of practicing attorneys in the city that co-teach a course on experiential learning through role-playing. It was a really engaging class that illustrated the importance of asking the right questions in an interview with your client. I also attended the IP workshop and the clinic workshop. The IP presenter was very engaging, as well. He seemed to really enjoy his work. The IP at Fordham seems a bit focused on internet law and the like, which isn't really my wheelhouse. And I'm sure you can crank out a 167+! You're obviously committed to a legal career and know much more than I could ever hope to about the legitimacy and strength of programs in different areas of the law. You already have so many awesome offers with a couple free rides! I hope your interview at Maryland went well so you may get another! I'm actually heading down to UNC next week for a scholarship interview. I hope I don't blow it! I'll be sure to keep in touch over the coming weeks and months to find out which path you decide to take. Best of luck and I hope you find a school and program that you fall in love with!

Tuesday, November 20 2012 at 07:00 PM

Thanks! I hope your cycle finishes up well also, best of luck!

Don't spend much time here
Thursday, January 10 2013 at 07:00 PM

Hi there! I don't spend much time on this site and didn't even know we had guestbooks (sorry). Saw that you left a couple note for me. I didn't write about my non-traditionalness for my essays. I figured my rsum and my years of work experience pretty much said all that needed to be said about that. GMU is the best school around for IP, though I'm not sure exactly what I want to do with myself. I'm not even set on law school. I can get an MBA from one of the universities where I teach for next to nothing, so that's an option I'm considering. I like GMU, but the five-a-week classes seems a bit excessive. There's no reason for it. I don't know why they don't just stack the classes one right after the other and have us go three nights a week instead. Logistically, five nights is unnecessary and just plain dumb.

G'town interview
Sunday, January 27 2013 at 07:00 PM

I got an e-mail from the admissions office saying that they were interviewing certain applicants who were already located in the DC area (like me). Interview was in the group format. I thought it went pretty well. Haven't heard anything since then though. I figure it's still a long shot either way.

Thank you!
Tuesday, November 20 2012 at 07:00 PM

Thanks! I actually got off the waitlist at UVA on Monday so looks like I will be heading there instead of GULC! I'll be jealous of you if you decide to be in DC though, it'll definitely be hard for me to leave the city. Good luck wherever you decide!

Thanks!
Sunday, January 20 2013 at 07:00 PM

Thank you!! Looks like you had an amazing cycle as well!! Good Luck at GULC next year!!

Thanks! and GW $
Saturday, November 24 2012 at 07:00 PM

Thank you, and congrats on a great cycle to you as well! Have you chosen GULC or are you waiting on GW? Those are tough tuitions to swing without $$, but I'm guessing you'll be working while in school, right? Originally, GW did not offer me any money, but I called them asking if they were done assigning scholarships and that I was hoping to receive one. I visited and toured and spoke with Dean Sim and a few days later, I got an email with an offer for $10k a year! Since I hadn't actually ASKED for that one, I decided to try my luck and haggle using my WUSTL and W&M awards and was able to bring up their offer to $18k/yr! I was very surprised by their generosity, but unfortunately it's made it harder for me. My heart is honestly at W&M as I want a very close-knit community, but GW is the obvious choice for the type of law I want to pursue, telecom and media law. I thought I was going to W&M, but this scholarship has thrown me for a loop! I'm just hoping for something good to come out of the UVA WL.
