Applicant Information

  • LSAT: 167
  • LSAT 2: -
  • LSAT 3: -
  • GRE : -
  • LSAC GPA: 3.38
  • Degree GPA: 3.45
  • School Type: top 40 undergrad
  • Major: Poli Sci/Ethnic Studies

Demographic Information

  • City: -
  • State: California
  • Race: Pakistani
  • Gender: Man
  • Non-Traditional Applicant: Yes
  • Years out of Undergrad: 1-2 Years

Extra Curricular Information

-International Rescue Committee Students' Plus tutor 1 summer.
-Currently volunteering for local public defender's office as an Investigative Assistant Intern.
-Also currently volunteering at the local library as the Homework Club volunteer coordinator.
-Worked as a server/delivery guy for three years of undergrad.
-Fraternity for three years.
-Practicum tutoring charter school middle school students one quarter.
-Eagle Scout

It must be noted that I applied with the intention to specialize in UCLA's Critical Race Studies Program. My background in Ethnic Studies, various volunteer work, Ethnic Studies Honors Thesis, and outstanding recommendation letters (I believe) made me a highly competitive candidate for UCLA Law.

Additional info & updates

Muslim immigrant from Pakistan. Socio-economic disadvantages. Pretty obvious upward GPA trend. Initial poor GPA related to immaturity and socio-economic disadvantage (year 1 = 2.4 GPA, next 4 years = 3.7 GPA). Ethnic Studies Honors Thesis on Muslim American reactions to post 9/11 discourses. Ethnic Studies GPA - 3.8. Political Science GPA - 3.6. Awesome recommendations.

5 alcohol related write-ups. Academic probation Fall Quarter second year.

UCLA is my top choice because of its Critical Race Studies Program, and its location.

I have no idea how my diversity will play out, so I've applied everywhere.

I hope the info here will help future Muslim applicants better predict their cycles. There is a lot of confusion about how adcomms view us, our diversity factors, etc. Hopefully I can help clear things up.

12/1--Status changed to DR at Georgetown. Not sure what it's going to be.

12/7--Waitlisted at Fordham via status checker

12/8--Dinged at Georgetown via email.

12/14--Accepted at UCLA via phone call from Dean Schwartz. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Definitely the best Christmas present ever.

Now, why did I apply to so many schools again? I never make anything easy on myself...

*It's so nice to see an "A" on here :) Good luck everyone on your cycle.

12/16--Received an email from UCLA confirming my admission yesterday, so I went ahead and withdrew my application from all law schools today. Took about an hour.

You've got a good list. Your numbers are quite good for a URM with that list. Good luck!
