Extra Curricular Information

Bombed my first go in college 15 years ago
Lots of WE but with little relevance
Went back to school and earned a 3.95 gpa
Little to no ECs
Not a great PS, but excellent LORs

Oh yes, and my Dean completely screwed me in telling me 3 times that he sent in my Dean Certifications when he in fact did not. So that's why you see the late complete dates on the big schools. Not that I had much chance of getting in there in the first place.

I visited (mostly informally) American, Berkeley (Boalt), Columbia, Duke, Georgetown, GW, Stanford, UNC, and Wake.

Additional info & updates

Hurry up and wait. That's the news every day. Thank goodness for Wake. At least I'm going somewhere and I like the fact that they're a small school where I'll get plenty of personalized attention.

Still, a T14 would have been nice, or the in-state tuition from UNC. Alas, I'll have to wait a little longer.

4/8 - Went to the Wake open house this morning and feel really good about going there. They really played up the advantages of attending a small school, and I'm also very intrigued by the joint JD/MBA program.

4/16 - I was passing through Durham yesterday, had a few minutes to kill and decided to check out Duke's facilities. Wow! What an impressive building.

4/21 - Waitlisted at Duke. Regular and oh so thin white envelope.

I find it somewhat humorous that at this late date the only school to have outright rejected me is the lowest ranked school I applied to.

5/4 - Last week I was rejected by Stanford, which was expected. Today I was waitlisted, I mean put on "reserve" by Columbia, which shocked the hell out of me.

5/9 - First a phone call from the Duke Admissions office to gauge my interest and a request to email Dean Hoye. I immediately did that, referencing my letter of con't interest that I sent just the previous week. Less than two hours later Dean Hoye was calling me to offer me admittance. That was followed up with an email and log-in to their admitted students page. $500 seat deposit due on Friday. I'm 99% certain I'll be going to Duke!

5/13 - Accepted at Rutgers w/ $5K annual scholarship, and I didn't even apply there. This is something called their "Special Admit-Outreach Scholarship Program for Select Students". Obviously I'm not going there, but I had to include it to tease my UG advisor who went to this school.

Nope, I've already been there about 3 times already. Will it be your first time there? What part of NC are you from? I'm from the mountains. :o)

Well

Hey congrats on your acceptance! I had the same experience you did - got a call requesting that I e-mail Dean Hoye, I did that (also referencing a letter of cont interest I sent last week) and I was in 2 hours later. It felt great. They already have my deposit and I think there's a very good chance I will be going to Duke in the Fall. As for my other waiting lists, I would only go to UVA or UPenn over Duke, and even then I'm not so sure. I've visited Duke before and loved it, so if nothing else changes I'll be seeing you in the Fall! Hey, do you think that the letters of cont interest that we sent last week played a role in our admission?
