Additional info & updates

5/10
Still waiting on the call from Dean Post to make it official, but it looks like Penn is going to let me in off the waitlist. And I am totally totally going.

4/30
Ding from Harvard. Finally. Hooray!

4/16
Waitlisted at Penn. Damn. Well... UVA or Northwestern here I come for real, I suppose.

4/14
Apparently I think highly enough of myself to turn down over $120,000. Who knew. UVA or Northwestern... here I come.

4/5
And the first ding of the cycle goes to: Columbia! Meh.

3/28
Update letters/LOCIs going out today. Also wd-ing from Duke. Surprise.

3/13/07
Waitlisted at Texas via e-mail. Stay on or get off? TBD. I suspect the rest of these are all going to be waitlists or dings. Alas.

Dear Harvard, Columbia, Duke, and Udub,
I will take dings from you all if you'll send any residual good will you have for me toward a Penn acceptance. Love, Mantis.

3/2/07
Waitlisted at Michigan today in the wave of Mich waitlist e-mails. Le sigh. I'm pretty happy with my other acceptances, though. I'm inclined just to let my cycle there die.

2/26/07
In at UVA, despite the "Not Yet" in my status checker all day. And the tiny tiny little boring normal-letter envelope.

2/16/07
"Status: Decision" at Georgetown. Man, that is the most nefarious status checker ever. Tell me decision and then don't tell me what that decision is!? Gah.

2/8/07
In at Northwestern via e-mail. Completely and totally relieved/in shock/thrilled. I'm going to law school!

1/26/07
I think I'm complete except for the Dean's Cert at Washington... e-mail informing me that I'm missing "Form B." I know.. it's on the way. I hope.

1/23/07
Received at the University of Washington. Hooray! C'mon....Texas.

1/22/07
UVA with the fastest turnaround again: complete today via an e-mail changing my status. What on earth did we do before the internet?

1/11/07
The apps are out. Whee.

And my first "received" e-mail from UVA. Wow that was fast...

Additional "received" e-mails from Northwestern (1/15), Penn (1/16), Harvard (1/16), and Michigan (1/18)

**

Sent = When I hit "transmit"
Received = e-mail from the school or LSDAS report requested, whichever comes first (not that I'm obsessively checking my LSAC page or anything)
Complete = how ever I can get it...

Completes:
Penn - e-mail
Northwestern - status checker
Virginia - e-mail "status change"
Michigan - e-mail "status change"
Texas - status checker
Duke - e-mail
Georgetown* - status checker
Columbia
GW
Washington
Harvard

* Georgetown is an approximation.. I logged on to the status checker for the first time on 2/1

Nontrads Rule! They can KO the LSAT! Congrats on the success you will achieve, and were already assured of achieving, in law school admissions.

HOLY CRAP!

You DESTROYED the LSAT! That's absolutely outstanding and I knew you had it in you. See? I was right with the praise I gave you in the past, or if anything, I didn't give enough. I also appreciate your kind words and all your help. I'll be rooting for you to get in to the places you really want to attend, but between your new score, your editing/writing skills, and your personality, I don't think you'll even need it. Congrats again and color me the bright, neon blue of being extremely impressed impressed.

...to see how you do! Such an interesting application.

What's that I see...?

Oh! Your first acceptance. I won't launch into how I had no doubt or how I knew you'd start hearing back earlier than later -- you already know that stuff anyway. Congratulations for sure and I imagine that having a school you really like under your belt helps make whatever follows a lot less anxiety-inducing. I'm considering going to their diversity weekend thing, but I'm not quite sure if I should spend the money. I know you just got in and probably haven't gotten the diversity email yet, but let me know what you think when you do. Anyway, I'm glad to see this good news. The lower application volume along with supposedly subpar applicants this year will probably speed along your acceptances at other places.

Your first big package will not be your last.* * - it may not include nice leather portfolio, though.

Fantastic!

I'm so happy for you! I wish you the best at whatever great law school you choose to attend.

Did you write the extra Mich essays? If not, get 'em in with a letter of continuing interest. That's what did the trick for me (specifically the Why Mich essay)...

UT
Thursday, June 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

I'm very surprised they waitlisted you at UT. My best guess is that they have pretty much already hit their out of state quota and are just waiting for the seat deposit fallout to know what they can do. It's really too bad that your applications got out so late since I'm nearly positive a few of those waitlists would have been acceptances. Still, you have fabulous options already and I think you'll get some more positive news here at crunch time. Congratulations on everything so far, and here's to hoping UT gets back to you very soon with a positive offer.

Northwestern $$$

Hey -- I saw you got a scholarship from Northwestern. Would you mind telling me when and how you were notified of it? I've asked for scholarship funds and they said they would consider my request -- I'm just wondering if I should expect something soon?? Thanks! And good luck making your choice.

Cycles are over
Thursday, June 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

I've been seriously MIA from all the law school stuff over the past several weeks, but I've returned to see excellent news on your part. It was probably a difficult choice between GW's offer and the offers of UVA and Northwestern, but those types of hard choices sure are nice to have. I'm really happy for you and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help.

dear waitlisted,
Thursday, August 03 2006 at 08:00 PM

I did send a LOCI... actually I sent a LOCI right before they actually waitlisted me.. but that was about it. (I've been out of school for a while so additional recs and/or updated transcripts were basically a no-go.) I basically made it as clear as possible that they were my first choice and that I would go if admitted.
