Additional info & updates

4/10/08 Just came back from admitted students day and had a great time. I loved the community that the school has. After attending a forum on their environmental law program, I've made the switch into the joint MSEL/JD program. If anyone is still considering VLS, let me know we can chat about it! I also found housing within walking distance of school. The one bdr apt is pricey but well worth not scraping snow every morning!

2/27/08 Looks like folks are settling into their acceptance/reject/waitlist cycles and starting to make decisions...maybe. For those accepted to VLS, is anyone planning on attending admitted students day? I think I am, in a whirl-wind kind of way. Fly in Sunday night, stay Monday and fly back to Atlanta that evening. I called VLS and asked for some sort of detail of the day, they said registration around 8 or 9 AM, tours, info tables etc. I heard from my 3L VLS email-pal that she signed her lease that day too, even better. As I slowly build my winter wardrobe arsenal, my excitement grows.

1/3/08 Well it's been awhile since I updated. Had a nice time in Korea and now I'm back trying to fight a cold. Received my VLS info while in Korea with no mention of $$. I expected as much, seeing as I had low numbers. As folks withdraw, do they hand $$ back out? Anyone know? In any case, after a brief freak out session with my parents they told me it would be fine and student loans are student loans... Anyway $200 is due in April and $300 due in June. Accepted students day is April 7 but I may just hold out to visit till the end of May so I can look for housing up there. Hope all is well with my fellow LSN users!

12/24 It's Christmas Eve here in Korea. It's nice to take a break from work and visit the folks. I'm hoping my VLS packet will be here by Wed. I guess I could have waited until I returned to the states, but I'm impatient I guess. Currently I'm obsessed with constructing a MAC arsenal that I plan on attending school with. VLS said that MACs are allowed but are restricted from things like exam software, I disagree at the moment with the option of running Windows on MACs. If threre are any fellow LSN users out there who want to discuss more about using a MAC, drop me a line. For now I'll leave you with this website:

http://www.maclawstudents.com/blog/

12/13 Nothing in the mail yet as far as VLS info goes, but I did receive a very nice Christmas card from them today.

12/10 - JUST GOT INTO VERMONT!!!! Really nice email with some mail info to follow. Getting my application in before December was a good move because they got back to me (and others) so quickly! So stoked...pretty much 95% sure it's where I'll be in the fall. Good luck to the rest of you guys!

12/9 OK OK, I need to apply elsewhere just in case. Working on it.

11/30 - Got another email from VLS saying my file was complete. Excited/nervous at the possibility that I could hear a response in the coming weeks.

11/26 -App to VLS is out and I received an email back saying thanks for the app, email with any questions.

**Saw that a major snow storm hit the Northeast...friends tell me I should get a snowmobile if I move to Vermont. Brrrr.

Currently working for AmeriCorps.

Took the LSAT twice in 2005 I freaked out once. The second time I didn't study at all thinking it was better than freaking out, scored 4 points higher I guess.

I want to go into environmental law and work for the EPA, simple.

testmasters

I recommend taking testmasters. I have heard from Kaplan instructors not to take Kaplan, however, I'm not sure if they have changed their teaching over the last two years. If you do take testmasters, make sure you get the right one. www.testmasters180.com is their website. The other one, based out of Houston, you DEFINITELY do not want. Also, have you considered Florida State University? They have one of the top environmental law programs.

I got an email from Vermont about a week after I applied saying that I was complete and the review process begins Dec1. I think you will definitely hear back before Christmas. Best of luck to you! My top choices are Northeastern and then Seattle, so far it's a toss-up after that. ps yay for AmeriCorps!

On VLS! You'll love Vermont, especially their four seasons - winter, winter, mud, and road construction! :)

thank you

Thanks for the comment. This is such a stressful process...I really appreciate the support. After getting that waitlist answer I am definitely disappointed and kind of dreading the next few decisions I will get...

Congrats!

Great job getting into VLS - I want to work for the EPA too! What sold you on Vermont? I'm looking at Lewis & Clark and Oregon for enviro law as well.

They sent a really nice package with a brochure on the school, a map of the area, a magazine on Vermont, and a couple of other things. They gave 20k/ year if I maintain a 2.5 GPA. I'm not really sold though because of the high cost (40k/ year) and the isolation, which will make networking and job-hunting hard. The school seems awesome, though, so I'm definitely going for a visit!

Thanks for the note! I am finishing up a 10 page final and I appreciate the distraction! My dream school..or the one I would love to get into would either be Suffolk or New England. I live in Central Mass and I have gone to a school out in Western Mass and now I think it is time to experience the city. Thanks for the encouragement...and I agree, you should probably get a snowmobile or a four wheel drive vehicle if you are going to move to Vermont! The snow/ice storm we just had was awful...

Happy New Year! I am thinking about doing criminal, particularly juvenile law. I worked at a prison for bad girls this summer. It was a great experience. I miss them so much! How is Korea? We keep getting hammered with snowstorm after snowstorm here....

Don't worry about the cold- just buy a ski jacket, a hat, and some boots! Then you will be all set. Weather here is weird- right now it is 50 degrees (it should be 30 or below!) And I still haven't heard anything from anyone. This whole waiting game is depressing.

Hello. Congrats on Vermont! I see you were wondering about scholarships. I called the Financial Aid office today and asked about scholarships and she said awards don't go out until the beginning of March. Maybe they give them to the superstars right away and then the rest of us a little later! I'm not sure, but she said that's when I would find out about a scholarship.

Hello again. Vermont is in my top 4. I am waiting to hear from 10 more... haha, so nothing is really decided yet. I would like to go to Vermont, but my deicision will probably have to come down to money within my top 4. We will see! I believe I would really enjoy the NE and it has such a strong reputation for environmental law!
