WAITLIST

4/2: UC Hastings sends email confirming application is complete.

4/2: Pacific McGeorge sends small thin envelope. What?! Turns out they were just confirming that my application was complete. Considering they already sent an envelope to confirm receipt, they really should use a postcard or an email to notify about completeness like everyone else. That was unnecessarily scary.

4/3: UC Davis rejects via online status checker, includes copy of letter online. Letter sent in small thin envelope next day. Signature by pen.
REJECTION

4/4: Stanford sends small thin envelope. Signature by pen.
REJECTION

4/10: Chapman sends email reminder about 4/13 Admits Reception. What?! Someone has fowled up; either they let me know too early that I got in, or someone inadvertantly sent that email to way too many people.

4/10: Pacific McGeorge sends large thick envelope with folder inside by priority mail. Includes designation of Legal Scholar and Honors at Entrance, which means free first-year textbooks and possible scholarship. Signature by pen.

REJECTION

4/19: Chapman sends promotional email about new program.

4/20: I attend Pacific McGeorge Legal Scholar Day. Meets expectations. Not great, not bad, just good.

4/20: Pacific McGeorge sends large thick envelope with all loans, except for the stuff covered by the Dean's Scholarship/Legal Scholar/Honors at Entrance. No signature.

4/23: Send letter to Pacific McGeorge asking for scholarship increase, using Chapman offer as leverage.

4/23: Pepperdine sends small thin tan envelope. Business reply mail envelope very clearly visible through front of outer envelope. Signature by pen.
WAITLIST

4/24: Pacific McGeorge sends promotional email.

4/25: Pacific McGeorge sends small thin envelope thanking me for attendance at Legal Scholar Day.

4/30: I officially decline Chapman's offer.

4/30: Chapman professor emails to congratulate me on admission. Unfortunately, she does this while I am literally at the Post Office mailing in my declination of Chapman's offer.

5/1: Pacific McGeorge's Adam Barrett calls in response to 4/23 scholarship increase request letter, increasing Dean's Scholarship to $15,000. Makes slightly snooty remark about Chapman. Letter confirming this sent in small thin envelope next day.

Some Safeties
Sunday, February 11 2007 at 07:00 PM

I highly recommend adding some safeties to that list because if you don't then you might end up without a single acceptance. Throw in Southwestern, USF, USD, Santa Clara, and Pacific - McGeorge just in case. You sure are aiming high so good luck to you.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice, but I was just creating my user profile today, so you didn't see my whole list yet (it's complete now). I did indeed apply to Pacific-McGeorge (and Chapman too).

Pacific - McGeorge

Sorry about that. Just wondering but why did you apply so late? Also, what is your top realistic choice? It's strange how you didn't apply to some of the schools in your area like USF and Santa Clara. Perhaps I might see you at McGeorge? I'm basically done with my cycle but good luck to you. If you are interested in McGeorge you might want to have them raise your scholarship. That Chapman award might help. I had mine raised from 12K to 15K and I didn't even have any other offers to present to them. I don't know what your results will be but you can look at my cycle and see what happened to someone with a higher LSAT and similar GPA. It's a hard year it seems.

Thanks for your response ocnative. I totally understand what you mean when you say that your parents made you apply to those reach schools. My family wanted me to apply to Loyola when I was practicing in the low 150's and when I got a 161 they wanted me to apply to Georgetown, USC, and UCLA. I basically told them that I wasn't going to waste my time and emotions on those schools. What are your political interests? I'm also going to McGeorge because I am interested in politics and policy making. The scholarship on my profile is a 3 year aggregate but people tend to display their amounts yearly as well as in total. Late applications suck and I guess my February application to Lewis and Clark killed my chances of an admittance with money but they are the ones who sent me the fee waiver at that time. Maybe I'll see you at McGeorge but if not then good luck at Pepperdine.

Thanks for the advice!

I just wanted to thank you for your advice on getting Pacific McGeorge to up the scholarship. With Chapman's offer as leverage, I was able to get Pacific McGeorge to raise the scholarship from $10K/yr to $15K/yr.

No Problem; got some from USD too!

I'm pleased that they raised your offer that much. I am also glad to pass on the advice that I got from others on LSD. I withdrew from McGeorge two weeks ago and therefore 15K a year opened up. It's nice to see the money being passed on to someone else. Speaking of scholarships, I received a 16K nonrenewable scholarship from USD today. I sent them a letter asking if they would match my McGeorge offer and they never replied. I visited twice and spoke to the financial aid office this past Saturday. They then quickly completed my package without any scholarship money. Then at the end of the week they sent me this offer. It's nice to be wanted especially since I've been waitlisted at so many schools. I guess this cycle has worked out for both of us. Congrats again and I hope you enjoy McGeorge, it's a good school.
