Additional info & updates

1/24 - EMAIL from Case congratulating me on acceptance. Didn't think I would hear anything so soon. No mention of money, hopefully there is something in the formal letter.

1/25 - Accepted at SIUC

1/26 Waitlisted at DePaul...not the best news this weekend

2/6 ACCEPTED AT University of Illinois!!! Got an Email at 4 saying I was in and to expect DVD. Can't believe it!

2/8 Accepted at Baylor via Email. Awesome. This cycle is going much better than anticipated.

2/9 Waitlisted at Loyola and accepted to Marq. with a nice handwritten note from the dean. This cycle is going better than I'd hoped. Chicago schools hate me however.

2/11 Rejected at Michigan..shocker.

2/13 Email at IOWA via Email...two top 25 schools...this cycle is turning out way better than I could have hoped.

2/15 Snail mail from John Marshall with acceptance and $25,000 a year!! Wow, it's nice finally to have someone give you some money.

2/15 Accepted to HOFSTRA! Received an email about an accepted students website. I was confused until I saw "congratulations on your acceptance."

2/19 Hofsta Letter came in the mail and SLU Acceptance with $20,000 per year. Now i'm in a bind. Go for the Money (SLU) or the ranking (U of I or Iowa)? Any thoughts or opinions would be extremely helpful. Has anyone had luck negotiating for money with schools?

2/28 Dinged at the University of Georgia..ouch.

3/5 Birthday Gift. $9,000 a year from Case!

3/13 Waitlisted at Kent. The continued onslaught from Chicago schools continues. Oh well, at this point I wouldn't go there anyway. Hope everyone is getting a little more Chicago love if that's where they want to be.

3/14 Been a while since I heard any good news. Dinged at Ohio State.

3/17 BACK IN THE GAME!! Accepted to University of Tenn. via snail mail

3/20 An OK day. Waitlisted at Richmond, which I will withdraw from. Also waitlisted at UCLA, which is a HUGE surprise. Accepted to Penn State!

3/24 Waitslisted at Florida. Hurts a bit, but likely would not have gone there. Although after being in Illinois all my life..that Florida weather would have been tempting.

4/1 Withdrew from most schools. It was tough because Iowa and Case were tempting. Probably going to be the University of Illinois unless something happens with UCLA or Ivy League reaches.

4/4 Waitlisted at WUSTL..I really like the school, but I don't think I can't wait. St. Louis is an attractive option as my roommate got a job there. Plus, have you ever been to Dave and Busters? It's awesome. We'll see.

4/7 Dinged at Temple. Wouldn't have gone there anyways, but it does throw me for a loop. Ohhhh, law school admissions cycle.

Waitlisted at Villanova..I'm on a cold streak.

4/10 Dinged at Tulane. My slump continues, although, I wouldn't have gone there over many of my acceptances. It's looking as I will continue to bleed orange and blue for three more years. I-L-L-I-N-I

4/11 Dinged at Wisconsin. Ouch.

4/14 Dinged at Cornell...the dream dies.

On Case! When did you apply? I haven't heard a peep from them (not even a "you're complete, etc"). Good luck this cycle - we have a bit of overlap - do you have a first choice?

the

first time i heard from them was via email, letting me know of my acceptance and the scholarship. then a few days later i received the official info in the mail. that's not to say that they won't be making scholarship offers later on. i've heard of people leveraging acceptances to get a few more bucks out of these schools ; )

First Choice
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

...is definitely WashU, but I know it is more than a long shot for me. I know someone who got in with really similar #s several years ago (and attended and did very well), but those were different cycle times :) Otherwise, I'm really in Wisco right now, with Bama a close second. Oh, I finally got the "you're complete" email from Case - took long enough! Now more waiting...

CONGRATS! That's so exciting!

Yea!
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

for Baylor! Is your admission for fall class? You're having a great cycle - can't wait to see you sweep it.

Thanks!
Monday, August 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hey..thanks for the Congrats. Originally, my top choice was Boalt but I just found out some not so good news today. Right now, it is between NU and Indiana-Bloomington. NU has great clinics that fit my interests and IU is offering me a full ride..are you leaning towards a school or another?

Congrats
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

on Marquette! I'm really intrigued by the not taking the bar to practice in Wisco thing and given my ever so slim chances at UW, I'm thinking of adding Marquette - do you have any good info on it? Also, I'm really familiar with the Baylor area (I didn't go there but I'm from TX and a good friend of mine did) so if you want some info/have questions, let me know. Oh, and no WashU news yet (save for complete notice) but it looks like they have more than enough qualified applicants so I'm sure I'll see my rejection at the first of April.

IOWA!!!
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

Yea for you! Thanks for the note - I actually really like Iowa (and here's where the bad part comes) but I was too lazy to get dean's certifications! When did you submit your apps (just general time frame) - I'm not good at the waiting game!

Congrats!

Nice cycle so far! Very jealous of your Iowa acceptance as I would love to go but will never get in, haha. Any top choices?

Iowa or Madison would be my top 2, tied for first. That's great you got into U of I, I know someone who goes there now and loves it!

Scholarship
Monday, January 14 2008 at 07:00 PM

So we both got into JM today? Congrats on the money! That's great!! By the way, we're kinda UGrad rivals... I'm a Boilermaker.

Congrats
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

on John Marshall and Hofstra! Will the $$$ make you rethink Iowa?

Dilemma
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

I've read a lot about SLU and from what I've seen the campus is beautiful, but I heard there are a lot of "hidden costs" they don't disclose up front. I also read it can be hard to keep the scholarship because students that don't get one upfront sometimes come in and do really, really well. From what I can tell they do dominate the STL market though, since most WUSTL grads leave the area. Do you ever read/post on www.top-law-schools.com? If not, look it up and search for SLU. Also, there is a blog written by an Alabama 1L who went to SLU for undergrad and she has a lot of great info about the school. That's a nice chunk of change to turn down... Hope I helped - keep me posted!

I forgot...
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

also on that blog is a great sample letter that the SLU undergrad used to negotiate for money at schools.

Thanks for the congrats...

It feels really good to have an acceptance. And the scholarship - I was shocked! Just who the hell does Georgia think they are? Clearly they don't get it. How is your research coming? Are you starting to lean toward a particular school?

Happy Birthday!
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

and congrats on a great scholarship! Will this sway your decision at all? Enjoy your visit to Iowa this Friday - let me know how it goes, your impressions, etc.

Good memory!

Good to meet you too, Bubba. I'm impressed you remembered my handle after only one mention of it! Keep in touch to let me know where you eventually commit. My guess is that we will be in the same place come August. Later, bro- M

OSU... my status checker just changed from decision pending to complete. I have no doubt I was rejected as well. Just waiting for the letter. How did it go at Illinois? Are you still leaning towards it? Oh, and thanks for the KY congrats - what's up with their team? I thought they were like basketball rockstars or something just a few years ago?

Yea!
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

for UTK! I know it's not your first choice, but it's nice to feel wanted. :) KY is definitely a top choice for me - I'm slowly falling in love with it although it's really small and sometimes I think the school is a bit limited in terms of things to do. Lexington looks amazing though and I must say they are doing a good job of trying to persuade me with emails and letters. I've got to get more into this March Madness thing, espcially if they do well.

Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

was a big day for you! What is Richmond thinking? They are INSANE! Congrats on Penn State and the UCLA wl! There was this HUGE thread on TLS re: last year's UCLA waitlist. Apparantly it's really kosher to email the dean and update them constantly... I bet that if you attack them you could certainly get in.

Here's that link
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

to the UCLA waitlist thread last year - its stress level is high but overall an entertaining read! http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7496&hilit=ucla+waitlist Did you get a response to the email? sorry to hear about the waitlist. I was out of town this weekend and stopped my mail and I'm DYING to find out what my fate there is. Seems like there is a "hold" group and a "waitlist" group, with the hold being a pseudo preferred group although I hear the waitlist is unranked. I remember reading on this site that last year someone with lower numbers got accepted quickly by visiting and showing a lot of interest. I'm hoping for anything other than a flat our rejection. :)

Thanks!

I visited UIUC and had most of my questions answered, but I wanted to know your opinion on the bus system out there. Do you have a car? Do you feel like its necessary to have a car? I don't have one and probably won't be able to get one before school starts so I'll be stuck on the bus.

is on crack. But like you said, you've got way better options! When do you think we can expext to hear from Bloomington and Wisco?

Ouch...
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

Sorry to hear about UW... I think my mail just gets a little bit longer to get here so I'll probably get the letter tomorrow. Sucks. Any news on the UCLA waitlist? Are you and the Dean besties yet? :)

Sad face... sorry to hear about Cornell. Ithaca didn't deserve you anyway.
