Additional info & updates

Applied for 2006-2007 cycle during senior year of UG. Listed LSDAS GPA is the one I initially applied with; applications that were still pending in January received an updated transcript with a slightly higher GPA.

UG school is ranked tier 3 (national universities) according to USNWR.

Sent is the date I submitted the LSAC app. Received is the date of the report request (or date I was contacted by the school). Decision is either the date of the email (Rutgers-Newark), phone call (Penn and George Mason), or letter (everyone else).

My application at Columbia was held on Jan 31 and I was accepted on April 11th, while my application at Harvard was held on Jan 12th with a waitlist letter on April 17th.

Scholarship amounts listed is the value over three years. W&L, W&M, and Rutgers scholarships are contingent upon 3.0/B average. Indiana scholarship is contingent upon top 1/3. George Mason scholarship is contingent upon top 1/4, and is split 15K/10K/10K among the three years. The rest of the scholarships either have no requirement to keep it, or just need you to maintain good standing. Need based aid is included, but the only school to give me need based aid was Penn.

------
Updates:
6/11/07: Withdrawn from Harvard waitlist, second deposit sent in to Michigan. Go Blue!

5/3/07: Sent in deposit to Michigan, keeping spot on Harvard waitlist for now.

4/20/07: Waitlisted at Harvard today by snail mail. Not sure if I'm going to stay on it.

4/11/07: In at Columbia today after being held in January - was emailed a copy of my decision letter.

4/10/07: Withdrew from a bunch of schools today. Will wait a little while on Harvard, but otherwise it's going to be Michigan '10.

3/31/07, part 2: Just got 50K over three years from NYU. It is distributed 20K for each of the first two years and 10K for the third year. However, if you do a public interest job 2L summer, I'd get an additional 10K in scholarship my third year.

3/31/07, part 1: Recently received a need-based grant from Penn (I'm assuming no merit scholarship is coming) and 20K/yr scholarship from Virginia which I found out at the ASW.

3/8/07: Money from Michigan, yay. I didn't expect it after taking three months and a letter of continued interest to get myself accepted.

3/5/07: Money at Cornell, but found out last week I'm an 'alternate' for scholarship at GULC and will have to wait until April 9th for a final decision.

2/6/07: In at Michigan, whee :)

2/5/07: In at IU-B via email, held at Columbia via snail mail. Also at Decision at Michigan, but have not yet received a letter.

1/22/07: Letter informing me of a full tuition scholarship at GW with additional free year of housing - wow.

1/12/07: Good news and bad news by email today. In at GW, not-in-but-not-out-yet (held) at Harvard. Also got into UVa by snail mail yesterday.

1/06/07: Checked my campus mailbox for the first time in almost three weeks - in at NYU (big manila colored envelope) and Cornell (thin, white envelope), whee! Also got some stuff from Penn and Maryland, including a free book offer from a Penn Law faculty member.

12/21/06: Just got a phone call from Penn letting me know I am in!

12/18/06: In at W&L and Maryland by snail mail today. As an FYI, Maryland never informed me that I was complete.

12/10/06: Got into Rutgers this past week with a full tuition scholarship. Got an email on Monday and the acceptance packet a few days later.

12/4/06: In at William and Mary with a Graduate Fellowship which offers in-state tuition plus 4K stipend with 8 hours of work a week as a condition - also a 5K scholarship on top of that.

11/20/06 - Woooooo - in at GT and Duke.

Georgetown came in a small, thin envelope with a one page letter and flyer about an admitted students event. Acceptance letter contained a handwritten note from the dean.

Duke came in a large envelope with letter, another copy of the view book, magazine, and Duke Law bookmark.

Also complete at Penn for EA as of today.

11/03/06 - Complete at Rutgers. Also mailed in my GW application today. I don't have a fee waiver online even though I sent in the postcard several weeks ago, so I mailed in my application with the fee waiver invitation attached.

10/31/06 - Got the complete notice at Virginia.

10/26/06 - Complete at Georgetown, my first complete school. Virginia also has me listed as having all my stuff in, but not yet complete.

Did you get a phone interview from Harvard?

Nope, no phone interview from Harvard. Got my complete notice via email and haven't heard from them since. From my understanding, those who have gotten phone interviews thus far are stronger applicants than I.

are you from rutgers?

Congrats on IUB! Question?
Monday, February 05 2007 at 07:00 PM

Hey. Congrats on your acceptance (with $$$!) at IUB! I was just informed of my acceptance today via e-mail. Supposedly more information is coming via snail mail. If you don't mind, can I ask how/when you were informed of the scholarship? Was this in the packet of information sent to you via snail mail? Or was it mentioned in your congratulatory e-mail? Thanks. ~Peter

Two Things

1. I look at your cycle with envy, in a 'what could have been' kind of sense. I applied super late, but with similar numbers as you, and the schools - in terms of my app - have been both drawn to the waitlist and tight with the $$$ strings. (Although I didn't fill out financial aid info - did you?) Anyway, congrats on your impressive acceptances & especially the $$$ 2. If you don't mind my asking: has the last minute Columbia acceptance altered your decision rubric? I'm also accepted at some of the same schools, and I'm looking for different perspectives ...

Your Post

Thank you so much for taking so much time to respond - your post was truly helpful and interesting to read. I really appreciate the various perspectives. I'm dreading the decision I have coming up (extremely soon) as I'm having trouble coming up with a clear front runner - each school I've been admitted to thus far has its merits/drawbacks in my mind. Again, thank you!

Hi there, I know this is a bit much to request, but do you think there's any chance I could take a look at your PS? I've been fishing for some feedback on my own through LSD, but wanted to see what a 'successful one' looked like (assuming it at least partly explains the way you gunned down all of those schools above). E-mail is ghil04@gmail.com. Let me know if you need a background check to insure I won't be stealing your PS, lol.
