Additional info & updates

Numbers are Chiashu probabilities... come on, one of the thirties!
*Scholarships are for 3 year totals*
12-07-07 UMKC via email

12-07-07 Drake via snail mail. $16,660 per year, must stay in
top third of class.

12-19-07 Accepted to OKC By phone- 22,000 per, must stay in top half of class. While it is unlikely that I will attend OKC, it was very nice to get an admissions call.

01-05-08 Accepted to Valpo with $20,000 per year- Must keep 2.9 GPA to maintain scholarship.

1-14-08 I have withdrawn from several schools; my aim is to practice in the Central Missouri area and UMKC and Drake are just as good (if not better) than the others and have a better regional rep. Still crossing fingers for MU!

1-16-08 Received a letter from Nebraska deferring my application until they have a chance to review all applications up until March 1st. The letter says they will contact me in early April regarding my application... Hmm, I smell waitlists in my future...

1-18-08 Rejection from Notre Dame! That's a pretty funny story- I was home after a nights good work at the bar and misread Chiashu. It said .03, which I mistakenly thought meant 30%... Applying while drunk- big risks...

2-04-08 Received acceptance from La Verne despite having sent them a withdrawal letter a couple of weeks ago. Still no word from any reach schools.

2-9-08 Waitlist from KU... snap.

2-20-08 Another wave of withdrawals. I have decided to hold out for MU or KU, with Drake as my standby. I want to practice near Missouri and have withdrawn from reach schools out of the area. I removed myself from consideration at SLU for financial reasons; I want to practice public interest law and cannot see the $100k difference between Drake and SLU being worth the difference in rankings.
I selected Drake over UMKC because the scholarship (even only one year) makes the cost a push. If I retain the scholarship for 2 years Drake is 4k cheaper and if I get all three years Drake is $20k cheaper. Also, given the identical rankings of Drake and UMKC (T3), I also believe that Des Moines is a better environment than Kansas City.

3-21-08 Withdrawing from KU. Drake or Bust! (Unless, of course, I get into MU)

4-16-08 Waitlist at MU

4/26/08 Just returned from and Admitted Students Day at Drake. I was impressed by the collegial and warm feel of the law school. The library is beautiful, the campus in general is very pleasant, and the Mock Trail / First Year Trial Practicum Courtroom is tremendous. I also was intriuged to hear about Drakes holistic approach to educating Law Students, both academically and professionaly. It seemed like Drake is focused not only on students learning the law, but also on students becoming functional lawyers before graduation.
I know it's a sales pitch, and they stack the deck, but I bought it. I'm withdrawing from MU and attending Drake Law in the fall.
It feels so damn good to be done with law school applications.

I think you should consider a few more schools perhaps Florida State and some other top 50/100 - I think you def. stand a chance! Keep me informed and best of luck bro!

Good luck

I gree with Drew, I think schools like Miami and FSU and other T2 schools are definitely within reach.

Chances

I don't think FSU is more likely than the three that you have applied to, but I think you have shot. Other T2 schools really just depend on where you want to practice. If you want to stay in the KS or MO area then I would stick with KU and MU as your reaches. It all depends on where you want to practice. Just look around the T2 and see how people with your numbers have fared in past cycles.

KS/MO

That is understandable. I used to live in the KC area, which is one reason why I have applied to KU and Mizzou. If that is the case, I would not add any more schools to your list. FSU's slightly higher rank than KU and MU is not going to improve your opportunities in the midwest.

Great Cycle
