Additional info & updates

Improved my LSAT score in December, up from 157. Probably not enough. Pared down my school list to the above, which are probably mostly WL at best. Once apps are in I'll consider the June LSAT, since I was practicing in the 170s.

1/9/12-Everything in, might submit to a couple other safeties, more for potential scholarship negotiation than anything else.

1/18/12-Submitted to ND and IU.

1/30/12-Dinged at NU. Really disappointing, and wasn't expecting a ding so soon. Hopefully this doesn't mean much for my other reaches.

1/31/12-In at WUSTL! My first acceptance, and the one I was hoping to have in my pocket with so many reaches on my list. Nice to have a quick acceptance the day after a quick rejection. :)

2/3/12- In at UIUC with 25% scholarship. Glad to have $ somewhere!

2/10/12-$$ from WUSTL! Awesome.

3/1/12-Out at M. Sad face for my top two choices. Rather they do it sooner than keep me around for months only to reject me later, I guess.

3/8/12 Out at V, WL at ND. Meh. Figured the former wasn't likely, and am not all that set on the latter, though I'll probably stay on the WL in case they let me in and throw some money my way.

4/30, Wrapping things up:
Decided to attend UIUC for a few reasons. I negotiated with my two acceptances with success. Illinois took me from 25% to 50%, and WUSTL increased by $5k. Total costs are very similar once you factor in tuition increases at WUSTL and guaranteed tuition at UIUC, and that I have in state tuition in Illinois. Considering that I would like to return to Chicago after graduation, Illinois makes more sense. Some other personal factors I wont be mentioning here also contributed to the decision.

Going in, I definitely wanted T-14, but I'm actually comfortable with this scenario. Thanks to my family, I'll likely graduate with only a bit over 50k in loans, which is a very low risk play, in my opinion. I think I've weighed my options and done the research, and while employment prospects out of Illinois aren't ideal, at least I shouldn't be drowning in debt. Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.

Thanks! This will be my second time taking it. This time around I've self studied and improved to a great extent. Hoping to improve just a few more points and for some splitter luck this fall :)

I'm glad to see someone else considering the June test after app decisions come back. I have a few okay options right now (as I expect you will) but I really think it might be worth my while to bump that score up a good 3-4 points. Good luck!

Seriously. I was starting to think all the views were admissions deans opening this page, laughing, and then returning a few days later to do it all again.

You're interested in taking the June test too? Do you know how well that will work in terms of getting off of WLs? It doesn't report until July and I imagine most WLs will be resolved by then...

It's definitely a long shot, but I'd much rather put some effort into it, have it not turn out well, and know that I did everything I could than to just forego one last take and wonder "what if?" If I hadn't been consistently PTing higher I'd probably feel a bit different, and I think test day stress was part of my problem. Now, I'm tutoring and generally more relaxed so it could end up working out. Even if it didn't help for WLs, I'd probably consider reapplying if I cracked 170.

Thanks for the advice, but I've been out of undergrad for a good deal of time already and have three scores on my LSAT report as it is. Assuming I take in June for the hell of it, I'll be out of retakes for a while and have no other good job prospects because I'm set on law school. If I were biglaw or bust, I'd totally understand what you said, but that's not the case. At some point (perhaps after applying twice to law school and studying for the same test for over 12 months) you have to realize that it's time to accept your options if there are any you're comfortable with. There are a whole host of personal factors at play here that I'm sure you're unaware of. So again, thanks for your advice but I feel like I've plenty of research and am considering my options with realistic expectations.
