Extra Curricular Information

Attending University of Chicago - one of the best schools in the country! I couldn't be more excited. Anxious to start!

----

Currently have 3 years working experience in marketing / business @ a very large, well-known company.

Some volunteer work, nothing hefty. Studied abroad for a semester. Employed throughout college - both internships and "paying the bills"-type jobs.

Numbers are correct now that cycle is over. My first LSAT was a 164, but included a statement as to what happened (and it was a legitimate excuse).

Scholarship info is 3-year combined total, not per year. I hope that's obvious if you're going to be somebody's lawyer. :)

Additional info & updates

4/26: Headed to University of Chicago next year - just sent in my $500 seat deposit. Can't wait!

4/23: Finally waitlisted at NYU. WTF took so long?!?

3/31: About 90% sure I'm going to go to UoC. Asked them for more money... long shot, but with my $60k from NU it can't hurt.

3/23: $20k/year @ Northwestern. Not bad, but unfortunately not enough to oust UoC.

3/15: Visited Boalt (Berkeley) this weekend and met with Dean Tom... if you want any deets on my impression of campus / the area / etc, send me a message.

3/8: Withdrew from Georgetown, Austin, Michigan, Boston, and UCLA. Aaah, I just threw away a lot of money.

3/8: Heading to Berkeley this weekend since their ASW is the same weekend as U Chi/Northwestern's. Excited to see the school. Any tips on what's cool around campus?

3/5: Went to U of Mn's ASW today. Not impressed. I knew that loving it was a long shot but I was hoping for some bargain law schooling since I'm a resident. Knowing it's not the right place for me makes my decision to go into terrifying debt a little easier though.

2/28: Filled out Berkeley's Matching Scholarship form and wrote an additional essay. Cross your fingers, amigos, because their tuition is expected to increase to over $50k/year. Eep.

2/27: $20k/year from Boston. I should really start withdrawing from places I've ruled out. I've narrowed it down to UoC, Northwestern, and Berkeley for the most part. NYU could be in the running if I knew whether I was accepted.

2/24: Wow - $10k/year from UoC. Wasn't expecting a scholarship from them... kids, it pays to fill out your finaid early!

2/23: Info about Hyde Park for those considering UoC: http://chicago.timeout.com/articles/features/82893/whats-wrong-with-hyde-park

2/18: IN AT BERKELEY!!! So excited. I was not expecting that with my GPA. Aaah! I have NO IDEA where I'm going to go.

2/18: According to its Twitter (@BoaltAdmissions), Berkeley is emailing admissions today.

Also emailed U of Mn director of admissions today asking for more scholarship money... we'll see what he says.

2/17: WL @ Virginia. Will probably withdraw since I definitely prefer UoC to Virginia. All I have left to hear from are Berkeley and NYU now - but since I would love to go to either so I feel like I can't move forward with any decisions until I hear from them. :/

2/13: WL @ Columbia... and they don't tell you if you're in until, like, mid-May. How does that work for ANYONE?!

2/8: Rejected @ Stanford. Nuts. Looks like applicants with higher grades / LSAT also got rejected, so I guess this means it wasn't personal (e.g., my personal statement). Crossing my fingers for Berkeley.

2/1: Dinged at Yale. With my GPA I'm not surprised, but it was worth a shot. Can't really say "onward and upward" with this one, since it's the best - but I can say "onward!"

1/31: Financial aid = applied for!

1/27: Rejected at Penn. Per my personal rankings, I'm not too upset, but it is a great school. Onward and upward!

1/26: Visited U Chicago and Northwestern this weekend - I have friends at both law schools. Wasn't very smitten with U Chi, which surprised me. Send me a message if you want some insider / first-hand pros & cons on either one.

1/19: Received Mich info today - $45k scholarship over the 3 years. Could use this as leverage with Northwestern if it comes to it. Also received BU, with no scholly info... srsly?!

1/15: DENIED at Harvard. It was a long shot anyway with my GPA - so no hard feelings, H.

1/14: In at U Chicago!!! I've been so lucky with my acceptances so far. Really excited to hear back from both of these great schools. Probably attending their 1/25 reception if anyone is going.

1/13: In at Northwestern!!! So excited. This is the first school/ city combo that I'm really excited about.

1/13: Knowing that Chicago is making phone calls this week (via their awesome Twitter), my heart was racing as I answered my phone from an unknown number this morning. Turns out I got into BU. Which is a great school, but not what I was hoping for this morning. Oh well, another acceptance under the belt!

1/12: I believe I'm under review at Columbia, according to some correspondence with admissions. And come on, Chicago, call me!!!

1/11: Email from Dean Tom @ Berkeley. I have been passed on to the committee for review. So, I didn't "wow" Dean Tom, but I haven't been waitlisted... yet. :)

1/6: Waitlisted at UCLA. I'm way above their 75th percentile for LSAT, and above their median GPA (remember, my numbers are fudged a bit on this site)... so, that's annoying.

12/29: No big activity or acceptances for nearly 2 weeks - I'm becoming adrenaline/dopamine-deprived.

12/22: Under review at Chicago.

12/18: Complete at Columbia. I wonder if all applications take roughly 7 weeks to complete, or if mine was particularly hairy for them?

12/17: Accepted at Michigan! There was a great personal note included, that referenced my essay.

12/12: Received scholarship info from MN. $18k/year or $54k total.

12/11: Accepted at U of Mn. Phone call, middle of the day.

12/2: Interviewed for Northwestern, locally. Interview went really well, and I enjoyed learning more about NU.

11/27: Accepted to Georgetown! Found out via snail mail. It was a small letter, so I thought it was a reject, but surprise!!!

11/20: Rejected at Duke. I had a non-academic probation incident my freshman year, which is likely the only reason I didn't get in.

11/11: Accepted to Texas! Phone call mid-afternoon.

howdy! i m not sure at the point, i got the call last thursday near COB time n the guy said they were gonna mail out my admission package. I read on TLS that you could only know abut ur scholarship when u receive the package. I v been on a lonnnnnng road trip since Sunday so I wont know it until early January. well, realistically, either columbia or nyu i guess. i might reconsider if i get some scholarships from michigan, northwestern, berkeley or pann. i wish i finished my apps earlier cuz the wait is driving me nuts. I saw ur cycle s going pretty well, i hope our nubmers largely parallels the overall app outcomes cuz I so want a T14 ad at this point. good luck on ur cycle n merry x'mas!

Hey - I saw your comment on my wall. In answer to your question, I do plan to apply to Yale even though it is a long shot. It's my dream and I figure it's worth $87 to know I didn't give up on a dream. I hadn't planned on applying to Harvard, but my LSAT score was a little higher than I expected, so now I am considering it. I had a dream a couple weeks ago that I got in there and UVA, and I just got into UVA yesterday, so maybe it's a sign. Thanks for the encouragement, and good luck with the rest of your schools!

thanks!

nice! congrats on the acceptance!!!

Congrats on your acceptances! To answer your question, I applied Early Action (non-binding) to Cornell. I withdrew from there and Michigan because I wouldn't choose them over Penn, and I might as well free up a spot for someone else.

Congrats

Congrats on all of your acceptances! I noticed your comment and Duke and wanted to offer my sympathy. I had to report a rather petty disciplinary incident as well. It's a shame schools blow up relatively minor offenses into huge transgressions. Looks like you got into some other awesome schools, though!

My little incident involved exactly the same thing, which at my college is apparently treated as a horrible crime, haha. I really like William and Mary so far, but I'm hoping for an acceptance from Emory.

Thanks for the well-wishes. Good luck to you too! Can you tell me how to find the UChicago Twitter feed you mentioned?
