Extra Curricular Information

Now that my cycle is done, I've decided to reveal all for people. Hopefully it'll help others!

Honors Thesis in English

Honors Program at Chapel Hill

Graduation with Distinction (Cum Laude, I guess)

Pi Mu Epsilon (mathematics honor society)

Summer program in mathematical research (knot theory, anyone?)

Work throughout college as a math homework grader and math tutor

Took a class where we volunteered in a really poor part of Durham
and tutored kids

Couple of other insignificant extracurriculars

Also, I was absent from the June LSAT, and took the September LSAT (where I got my 175). I did not write an addendum for my absence.

In at NYU! Woop woop.

1/14/10

In at Chicago! It's nice to be in at two places I'd love to attend!

1/15/10

And rejected at Harvard. Not a big surprise considering my GPA, but it still stings a little bit.

2/4/10

The big rejection from Stanford. Even less surprising than Harvard's rejection, so I'm not too torn up about it. Still waiting on a decision from Columbia, though... come on, pull through for me! Columbia is my #1 choice so getting in would be absolutely fantastic.

2/8/10

Oh my God, in at Columbia! This is a dream come true. Got both the letter and the binder in the mail today. The letter was dated 2/4, so I think there's a new wave afoot. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

2/25/10

Got no money from Chicago, so it seems pretty likely I'll be heading to Columbia in the fall.

3/9/10

Got $37,500 from NYU! $15,000 for the first two years and $7,500 for the third year. Not bad at all, but it's not a "game changing" amount for me, and I think I'd prefer Columbia. Not withdrawing from anywhere yet, though - need to do a little bit more research before I make my final decision!

4/1/10

I received $32,500 from Columbia, and that ends my cycle. I definitely think I'd enjoy Columbia over NYU, and the almost-even money seals the deal. Glad this is all over with!

4/8/10

I've officially withdrawn from U Chicago and NYU, and put down my deposit for Columbia. Excited about next year!

I'm also looking at Columbia and NYU but money is a big factor for me... can I ask if yours was merit based? Thanks!
