Additional info & updates

LSDAS GPA initially was 3.56. New Transcript was sent sometime on around 9 January 2006. I have a hunch that UVA is going to reject me but I'm hoping that being in-state and also being an alumni from UVA will mean something. :/

GMU keeps sending me cards like a Happy Holidays card... I hope this is a good sign...

Update: Accepted at GMU at around 3PM 1/23/06. Phone call from the dean of admissions. Happy Holidays cards are good signs..

Accepted at UofRichmond at around 10PM 1/23/06. Phone call from the dean of admissions. Told me to apply for the John Marshall Scholarship.

Accepted at W&L 1/27/06, letter dated 1/25/06. W&L 'ran out of money' and is not giving me anything. All the better.

Accepted at W&M 1/27/06, gigantic folder via priority mail postmarked 1/26/06. $8,000 Scholarship renewable per year... 2/3/06.

Accepted at GWU 2/7/06 via e-mail. GWU is not giving me anything substantial. Instead of wasting money on mass mailings of booklets, they could you know, find money for me.

Priority In-state WL @ UVA. The LS hunt is over.

Duke???
Update 4/19/2006 - Rejected. Oh well.

Decision so far: W&M unless UVA takes me off their WL, in which I'll reconsider for a little bit. I am sending my letter of acceptance on Monday, and I will be withdrawing from my other schools by next Monday at the latest.

Happy Holidays card..

I guess it was a good sign. FYI, I applied, got no holiday greeting cards and am expecting a ding. I can pass this oracle to the next round of applicants who wish to know a decision early. Congrats!

Yeah it looks like our dates are similar, plus we are applying to a bunch of the same schools. My top choices are Cornell, Duke and Texas, but probably the only one I stand a chance at is Cornell (hopefully a little alum bonus.) Would have killed for UVa but decided against making the donation. GMU was a safety, but I would go. Why are you so against it? I know it's not the best, but it's not horrible (at least I hope not!)

Thanks for your take in gmu from a local perspective. I'm interested but skeptical - my friend at g'town refers to it as the "third george" in a clearly derogatory manor - but I'm willing to give it a shot. What is your opinion of Wash&Lee? Rankings wise, it beats out GMU for sure. Is that your current favorite? (feel free to drop me an email)

GMU/W&L

Mason's not bad, it's in a cool part of Northern Virginia (the Ballston district of Arlington) and gets quoted from time to time in the Washington Post and periodicals. It is the third ranked of the Georges, but your friend at Georgetown is probably just being snooty. I went to UVA undergrad, and we used to refer to James Madison University as "Just Missed UVA." I'm psyched about W&L (if I can afford it) - it's in a beautiful area, very small school, with supposedly excellent teachers. Plus, they have online chats so you know they're somewhat tech-savvy. Plus, I'm thinking maybe I can kick butt there for a year and then transfer to UVA . . . anything is possible!

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about ND, especially with the money. I guess I'm a little disappointed about the georges, but i would have taken ND over either... I'm really just not a large city type of person, at least not right now. Minnesota wasn't a safety, actually it's a top 20 school. Right now I'm still praying for something out of Cornell, Duke or Texas - all of which crazy reaches - but would be really happy with ND. Still haven't heard from W&M - congrats on the finances there!!

When in the world...
