----
I received an F in a programming class almost a decade ago, which got me academic probation for a single term. I hated that I had to answer Yes to that question about ever being on academic probation - and hope it will be okay

Additional info & updates

Applying to Part-Time Evening Programs. Have to work during day.

7/3/09 - I was expecting about a 158 on the LSAT (based on practice tests) but got a 154. For the schools that makes financial since for me to get into (FIU) want to get into, its the 75th percentile for their part-time program. However, its not a good score for DC law school evening programs. If LSAC fixes the GPA hopefully it will get me up to a 2.91. I guess time will tell.

12/15/09 - Applied to Early Admit at Mason. Should hear back by 1/15/2010 so I haven't applied to any other schools.

12/20/09 - Visited DC (from Florida) to check-out some schools. Met with GMU admissions for a tour and the campus and surroundings wasn't as great as I thought it would be - but it looks like they have a great academic program. I really, really liked my visit to Catholic. I had a very good feeling when I was on their campus.

01/09/10 - Got my first response from my first law school application and it was a rejection from Mason. I was expecting Mason to be very difficult and am not surprised, but I was hopeful. I will be cleaning up some things in my application and will apply to American & Catholic - as well as some Florida schools.

1/27/10 - Applied to American University and Catholic University. I ultimately want to work on international human rights - and both schools seem very good for this. I spent a lot of time on the personal statements. . I already got logins to both schools to check my online status. American seems to have had a really quick turn-around lately .

1/29/10 - Applied for FIU in Miami. FIU seems like a great option for Florida Residents. Its cost of tuition cannot be beat, and they have a part-time evening program. I have looked at other Florida Evening Programs (such as Stetson) and they are all either way more expensive and/or require attendance in the summer. I live about 5 hours from FIU so it would be an easier commute back home for every other weekend.

02/05/10 - Just got a waitlist notification from American University. I know I was on the borderline, and am appreciative of the possible opportunity.

2/07/10 - I took a really hard look at my personal statement and made a lot of improvements, and worked on it over 12 hours this weekend (in addition to the hours and hours before). The fact that American waitlisted me has really given me the courage to "reach" to George Washington - which is in the ideal location in DC. I have a master's certificate from GW and was recently in GW Today for some work I did in Haiti. I re-worked my statement, focused in our my work at GW, and am decided to apply.

04/19/10 - I'm surprised that I still haven't gotten word from Catholic, FIU, or GWU. Its been 60 days which means that this cycle is probably really competitive. I visited American last week and that is my first choice, and I hope I get off the waitlist there! It is in a perfect location, the students were friendly, it is diverse, and I'm really impressed with the administration, the events on campus, the clear policies, etc. I am thinking that if I don't get off the waitlist for American, I will probably re-apply next year under their Early Decision program. Catholic's status checker says they have made a decision, but I have to wait to get home for a couple days to see what it was.

04/21/10 - So I just got home and got a denial from GWU and Catholic. I really wanted to go to a DC evening program so this is really disapointing. I'm still glad that the door for American is cracked though.

4/22/10 - Received e-mail from FIU informing me that they now have a status checker and the e-mail had my login. It said that my application was complete but it didn't provide any other information.

5/01/10 - Received waitlist notification from FIU. The waitlist letter didn't have the "orange waitlist response form" attached to it, and the online status checker says I owe $200 by 5/17. I will have to call them tomorrow and see what my next steps are.

LSAC cut my gpa lower than it alreay was, too. You get all prepared for the gpa to affect you and then it drops further. Your stats are similiar to mine so good luck.

How did Catholic notify you that your application was complete. I submitted my application (and subsequently was notified via email that it had been received) on the exact same day as you, and I have yet to be informed (via their online status checker or otherwise) that my application is "complete." Thank you and good luck!
