About the cycle. Everyone says it, and I ignored it too, but: APPLY EARLY! Especially if you have marginal numbers like I do. I saw plenty of applicants with similar numbers to mine admitted to the very same schools that later in the cycle rejected me. Should I ever consider re-applying, I will surely press the 'Submit' button on opening day.

Additional info & updates

10.18.2009 So today I dropped a couple of highly ranked schools and replaced them with schools I feel offer better programs for me and would allow me to perform better during first year. After wrestling for some time on the subject, I've decided that it is more important to finish in the top X% of your class than to finish at the middle or bottom of the most highly ranked school.

I'm also seriously considering a part-time program to help defray the cost -- I'll have to solicit some more input from the community before I decide for sure.

I'll have been studying for the LSAT for nearly a year when I take it this Dec. I'm sure I'll be ready. After a short break, I'm getting back into practice test mode for my final push to the finish line. Sep scores just came out, and the stories were inspirational. Good luck to everyone else in my boat!

11.19.2009 Today I received my final LSDAS GPA summary. Unfortunately, I was young and dumb during my first two or three semesters at college, and didn't take it very seriously. The summary shows this to be the case, even if it happened just on 25 years ago!

I have also decided to move forward with the part-time program, in part because of the LSDAS GPA, but also because I feel it would be advantageous to work full time to help offset the cost of tuition. I feel it is particularly important to mitigate my financial risk given the current economic environment and I cannot do this based on the notion that I will receive merit scholarships.

01.24.2010 So I'm making good progress in getting these apps into committee. It looks like I'll have all apps submitted no later than 02/01/2010, regardless of deadline.

I've decided to bias my applications in favor of targets, stretches and those schools that have invited me to apply versus safeties. Time will tell if that strategy pays off.

02.26.2010 Rejected by Berkeley -- no surprise there.

03.31.2010 Big envelope from SCU, must be an acceptance! Just two left.

04.30.2010 Rejected by USC -- again, no surprise. I've decided I will not be attending law school this year and will likely withdraw from my acceptance and waitlist positions within the next couple of days. Best of luck to everyone going in to 1L this fall!

You are an inspiring and ambitious person! I think your application will definitely catch the eye of the admissions committees! Best of luck on your cycle! (Don't worry about the ding from Berkeley. I got one too. Looks like they aren't accepting anyone this cycle..lol!)

Congracts on SCU!

Did you find out over status checker or did you get a letter? Congrats! :)

Appreciated!

Thanks you guys again for your kind words!...I found out about SCU via snail mail, one large 9 X 11 envelope, and one standard business envelope. The large envelope contained the acceptance letter and the deposit amounts and deadlines. The standard business envelope contained a congratulations letter on the scholarship money awarded. Hope that helps, and good luck!
