Extra Curricular Information

Lots and lots of activities, including volunteer in DC.
A few internships, including one with the state senate, and one in DC.

Studied abroad for a semester in Mexico. Fluent in Spanish.

Worked all of college career, usually two jobs, at one point three.

Currently work as a paralegal. Knew I wanted to go to law school quite some time ago, but decided to take a year off of school for a variety of reasons, and figured that a paralegal job might get me some experience.

Additional info & updates

LSAT was disappointing - after 10 practice tests ranging from 160-163 (not fantastic, but I was happy with the scores), I just could not get above the 156.

Took it three times: first - 153, should have cancelled, almost threw up before from nerves, messed up two sections as far as timing them (literally, messed up my watch - lovely); second and third - 156.

Such is life.

2/11/08 - Received deferral letter from Miami. Not a huge surprise. Told me in a chat that I was applying late. Not extremely upset, not a top choice, and just plain couldn't afford. But I suppose not the greatest way to start this horribly, torturous cycle.

2/14/08 - Accepted to UNM. I may have to reconsider my cynicism for this Valentine's holiday, because that was a damn good present.

2/22/08 - Waitlisted at Loyola Chicago. Happy with it. It was definitely a reach school, as are a lot of my applications...eh, I like reaches.

3/10/08 - Rejected at DePaul...I think that's called a 'ding', right? Eh. Only applied due to fee waiver (ironic). But a rejection is a rejection is a rejection - not the best feeling.

3/11/08 - Accepted with full scholarship to UMKC - in-state tuition plus $$. Wow. Nice phone call after work.

3/14/08 - Waitlisted at American. Asked to be put on waitlist for part-time. Really surprised, thought it was a for sure ding.

3/14/08 - Accepted to Pace with scholarship of $11,000/yr. Wow. Thank youuuu, Pace.

3/18/08 - Waitlisted at Fordham via status checker. Shocked. Huge reach. Perhaps they have me confused with someone else? More than happy to be on their waitlist.

3/19/08 - Waitlisted at U of Denver. Withdrew application. Too expensive. This cycle is absurdly unpredictable.

3/21/08 - Rejected - Arizona State University. Woo, man. Rejections are not fun.

3/24/08 - Rejected - U of Illinois. Duh. Surprised it took them so long. Thank you, though, for the fee waiver.

3/24/08 - Rejected - Case Western. Again, not a surprise. Their letter was weird though. It said that I had a guaranteed spot if I applied next year as a transfer student...?

3/31/08 - Waitlisted - U of Miami. Withdrew.

4/2/08 - Waitlisted - Cardozo. Waitlists are kinda cool, kinda annoying. Not sure how I feel about them anymore.

Big gulps, huh? Welp. See ya later.

My cycle is over! Woo hoo! I will be a 1L at UNM this August. Good luck to all of you! And go cheer for UCLA this weekend!

LSAT

I just read your comments and can totally relate to your LSAT experience. All my practices were in the low-mid 160s and the first time I took the test I also messed up my watch - I didn't start the timer! When I looked down, my sub-dial was on the 30 and I thought I only had 5 minutes left. Total panic ensued and well, sad me. We applied to several of the same schools - good luck! Do you have a first choice?

Choices

Thanks for the reply and I'm really sorry to hear that you got some bad news about Buffalo. Have you searched on www.toplawschools.com? I know there are several threads that discuss the school/prospects. My first choices are both major reaches for me - WUSTL and U of Wisconsin. After that, it comes down to location, tuition, COL, placement, etc. Good luck - I'll be watching for all your acceptances.

Thanks!...

...and good luck to you too! Great softs; looks like you'll get into quite a few schools! Any top choices? I'm looking to stay in the midwest, probably Minnesota, but if I got into Wisconsin I would die (though EXTREMELY unlikely!)

Congrats

UMKC
Thursday, March 13 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hey when you say you got a full scholarship and $$ to UMKC, do you mean the money for books? Or $$ for living expenses? I got a full ride as well, w/books. However they didn't say andything about extra $$. Good luck on the rest of your pending apps!

Ya
Thursday, March 13 2008 at 08:00 PM

ya thats where I will probably end up. I don't think I could pass up the full ride at UMKC unless I got one somewhere else. Do you think you will end up there?

No
Friday, October 12 2007 at 08:00 PM

No i have not been to UMKC's campus yet, but I think I will be checking it out soon. I also got waitlisted at American today. I'll have to see how the rest of my cycle ends up, before I really want to commit to anything. However, I assume I will be attending there. Have you been to the campus?

thanks

im excited about 'Dozo but I dont think i will take it. haven't heard the fin aid package yet, but it comes up (per my calculations) at 200,000 for 3 years. The fin aid package should be the deciding factor for me . good luck for you

Congrats

on Pace! And a scholarship to boot! Are you getting nervous about hearing from on outstanding apps? I am!

Yea for you!
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on the Fordham waitlist though I'm suprised you're suprised! You've got great softs and I just think they are crazy for not outright accepting you! How hard are you going to try and woo them? Good luck!

UB LAW
Tuesday, May 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

If you don't mind Yoamadeus8, can you please give me a hint about the negatives of the city of Buffalo. I've decided to attend UB and I will like to be well informed before I move up there. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for the note..
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

you're so sweet! In previous years, the waitlist at OSU has been REALLY hard to get off of and my numbers don't scream "take me, take me!" so even though I'd love to go there, I think it's highly unlikely I'll see any action. Thanks for the support though :) Sorry to hear about Case - I think it's surprising that they didn't take you! Also, that is a weird letter - what if you got a crappy gpa? Weird.

UB
Tuesday, May 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the info. I would definitely not base my decision on such revelations because I do know UB alumni that are doing really well in big law in NYC. It is true that it might not be as easy as say Fordham grads but it is not impossible. As per the weather, it'll take time but I know I'll get used to it. In other thing is not important as far as I'm concerned. Good Luck with Buffalo and hope we're classmates in the Fall. Thanks again.

W's...

I see some withdrawal action - what are your thoughts? Is it UNM for now?

Congrats on UNM Decision
Sunday, August 12 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on your acceptance and decision. I'll too be a 1L in the fall at UNMSOL. Drop a line and/or perhaps I'll meet you at the accepted students event.

Yay!
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

I'm so excited you made your choice -what a huge relief not to be playing the waiting game anymore! I'm so excited for you!

Thanks!
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

for the note... I'm ready to go! I just want to hear from Wisconsin soon so I can dismiss the possibility from my mind! Without school to distract me, I'm a very impatient person and I'm just so ready to move and get things started. Are you going to do anything fabulous over the summer before school?
